- In this video I discuss different straps I typically wear with my dive watches. Wether you wear a luxury dive watch like a Rolex, or a more affordable tool watch like a Tudor or Omega, there is something in this rant for you. Please let me know your thoughts as I try to be open and honest, while I am learning more about this hobby. Please subscribe!
Great video Burbinghard 🙌🏻👍🏻
Thanks man! 🙏🏻
Fully agree...there is something about a 5513 on a worn out leather strap...Killer combo!
If you know, you know 🍻
The Squale 1521 is a very handsome and capable dive watch, which comes on a leather strap, for when you want to dress it up. I generally go with a bracelet when buying (straps can be purchased inexpensively, later), but will make an exception for field watches. That’s where nato comes in. I don’t love all natos, but really dig them in brown leather. I love the style, on me. It also saved my Sarb017 when one of the old spring bars failed. Once in a blue moon I’ll equip an army green or festive color for a holiday or occasion. Anywho, everyone has their personal preference.
Well a NATO strap saved my $10000 watch from going to the bottom of the ocean when sailing my yacht when a spring bar failed. A must if your active and don't want to lose your favourite tool watch. A big NATO fan. You can even swim with it and it will be dry within 20 minutes while still on the wrist.
NATO straps put multiple angles of pressure on a springbar which actually causes springbar failure. NATO straps were designed for military watches with fixed bars, not removable springbars.
I have used my Rolex Submariner for diving, but I did with my Omega Seamaster.
Meh I love wearing my black waffle dial Samurai with its black & grey Bond Nato strap.
Wouldn't wear it with anything else honestly.
But its not an expensive watch in the first place so I guess its a different story.
K but you wrong doe.
NATOs are the best straps for divers. Or anything sporty. I even wear my grandfather’s 1962 Eternamatic on a NATO. 🕺🤪
Have you done much diving or ocean sports with a NATO on? I’ve tried it. The sand and salt water messes it up, and it scratches the hell out of the case back quick!

A ton. I live close to the coast in NC and have spent countless weekends down there through the years. I’ll probably down there on the boat this weekend fishing. I’ve never had a moment’s thought about it. Watches take wear when you use them. I expect it and don’t consider it to be a problem I care about. I just wear a watch that I know can handle my lifestyle, and let’er rip.
I am however, debating putting a leather strap on my daughter’s graduation present.. a Certina DS action 38. Thoughts? She and I both hate bracelets, and I kinda want hers dressed up a touch for daily wear…
@@1581zebra the DS Action Divers are a great classic (vintage inspired) dive watch. I’m sure it would look great on leather. It might not hold up well if she plans on swimming in the ocean, or chlorinated pools with it. But if you pick a matching or complementary watch strap it’ll look good.

Yeah, she’ll need a strap for water too, but she doesn’t get into the water often. I think it’ll look good on leather.
I find leatherstraps on diving watches inappropriate too, unless on a bronze diving watch (which is weird too since a bronze appropriately would call for a natostrap). However, Tudor publicly condones the use of leatherstraps on the Black Bay model (again your well spoken vintage watch philosophy comes into play) AND one can actually go purchase the Hirsch Grand Duke leatherstrap which claims to be waterresistant until 100 meter (328 ft), so again who am I to differ with a guy wearing a waterproof leatherstrap with his diving watch. It really is a tricky matter
of opinion, but then again, wouldn't you find it weird if you saw a guy wearing a vintage style diving watch on a leatherstrap in the close vicinity of a pool ? So maybe we should just conclude that you cannot wear a diving watch with a leatherstrap unless it for some strange reason looks damn good :)))))
It really comes down to finding a way to articulate something that does not make sense, but the heart wants 😂 🍻
No leather on a dive watch
If nato straps don't look good why did James Bond wear them?
People think James Bond wearing a NATO in a formal setting looked good. The point of the NATO strap was to show the character was rough around the edges. The NATO didn’t look good on James Bond either, so stop doing it.
@@burbinghard I see, however the Urban Gentry likes NATO too.
@@brandonlanois1734 everyone that makes money spruiking NATOs always seem to like them. Ever notice that? 😈
@@burbinghard Promoting NATO straps is a huge business.
