    Why do we bother with approximate techniques when we know how to integrate definite intervals?
    It's nice to know from an historical prospective, I guess, but it's a waste of time and just seems to drag out our Calculus curriculum.

    • @joshuagarcia7216
      @joshuagarcia7216 3 года назад

      My professor recently told me that you can use trapezoidal/simpsons rule in real life engineering type scenarios where you need to take the approximate volume of an area to figure out how much supplies you’d need or something of that sort. Using definite integrals would be near impossible to find the volume of a mountain but these rules here allow for a close approximation to the exact answer.

    The last example isn't a really good one personally. It gives you the answer in the question. The question asks for the amount of water accumulated after 1 hour. 60min = 1hr as we all know. In the chart it says that for 60min the rate is 6.2gal/min. So.......6.2*60= 372gal. No need for a trapezoidal rule.
