    While he was sitting in the theatre watching the movie, Neil deGrasse Tyson noticed that the stars in the movie Titanic were in the wrong place. Find out how the mistake happened in the first place, what Neil said to James Cameron and what James Cameron said back to Neil, and how Neil was eventually asked to create the night sky for the revised Centennial Director's Cut of the film.

    If Neil Armstrong could have seen the stars from the Moon, would it have looked much different than from Earth?

    • @fromnorway643
      @fromnorway643 4 года назад +1

      The lack of an atmosphere makes the stars in the lunar sky shine with a steady light unlike the twinkling seen from Earth. Stars near the horizon will also be just as bright as the one higher in the sky, but other than that there won't be any significant differences.
      The closest visible star (Alpha Centauri) is more than 100 million times farther away than the Moon is, and most other visible stars are billions of times farther away, so the shape of the constellations will be _exactly_ the same as seen from Earth.
      We would _not_ see any stars during daytime because the direct sunlight and reflected light from the ground would ruin our night vision. Fully dark adapted human eyes are in fact several thousand times more light sensitive than in full daylight, so we would need to let our eyes become at least partly dark adapted in order to see any stars, just as on Earth.

    • @Jay-om8gr
      @Jay-om8gr 4 года назад +2

      Arthur Ortega spherical not circular. A sphere is 3D/real life. A circle is 2D/like a drawing or flat surface or even a really thin disc. And planets are that shape because they have enough mass for gravity to continuously pull all the mass towards the center. Bodies such as comets, dwarf planets, and asteroids aren’t spherical because they don’t have enough mass.

    Can we ship garbage and toxic waste to a black hole or the Sun?

    • @erinhaury5773
      @erinhaury5773 4 года назад

      In theory, we could send it to the Sun, though we don't have a black hole close enough to make that a feasible choice. The issue arises when you take into account just how expensive it is to send something into space once, let alone the literally thousands of trips required to get the totality of Earth's human refuse up there. Once in orbit, I imagine it would be a rather simple (figuratively) matter to send it on a trajectory towards the Sun. You would need far less thrust to escape Earth's gravitational influence than you did to get into orbit, but there would still be associated fuel costs. You would also have to account for a craft to hold the refuse, some sort of one-time-use space barge that would carry its contents to their ultimate demise. This all very, very expensive and is therefore not a reasonable solution to the problem at this time.
