Mid drive is a pain in the ass to maintain and so many more moving parts on them so they break down easier. I've messed about with high power mid drives before and will never do it again it tears through your drivetrain in record time. A simple direct drive or gearless hub motor is the better option.

@@acelectricalsecurity it's good that it worked out for you, I'm happy with a direct drive motor I like to have the least amount of maintenance possible and in the year I've been riding this bike all I've had to do is change the brake pads twice. I've fitted many yose kits. They are amazing for the money. I've done 4000miles on mine. Some of the rear spokes can come loose but once re-trued they last (only happened on a few wheels). The front hubs never seem to have trouble with spokes.
The kirby kits are next level in quality. They are superb. They can also run 48v-60v. Nothing wrong with either kit though.

There is something about Hub motors that I don't like, I feel the Mid motors are a lot more efficient getting up hills and having the gearing on the back can get you a little bit more speed, Technology on E-bikes is stepping up, They even got motors that drive a wheel with no chain, I am thinking of getting one of those Geared Hubs, So there is no derailer but the torque is only about 50-80nm so things go wrong inside the gear hub with motors with a bit more torque, The UK is lagging well behind in the E-bike technology, Because of law's and more law's on top of law's, Is just holding back innovation in the PEV world, E-bikes made 50 billion last year and it is only going to grow, I have said since I bought the Electric monster scooter about three and half years ago, And because it is 1600w we are not allowed to use them, I had to do the Carrera E-bike build I done because a police man said if he see's me on it again he will take it off me, Before that I got stopped about five times on my Monster scooter, I wear the body armor and full face helmet and the old Go Pro they actually said about the protective equipment I had on, And four bright ass lights on the front, At first the Police was interested in what the scooter can do how many miles ect, I said it does about 25mph and they wasn't bothered , They told me not to use it on the roads and ride it normal, I think it is the Go Pro, And if you doing stupid things on the scooters then nine out of ten it is recorded on the Go Pro, lol, But then I got stopped by a copper who said they are illegal, You need to get off and walk it, While an E-bike was going past, So I said what about the E-bike then, lol, He said that got pedals, I was confused to F, So I had no choice to do the E-bike, Because I suffer with Complex PTSD, I am not allowed to do my CBT or driving lessons, And public transport sends my PTSD sideways as I suffer from CPTSD from past knife attacks on me, The UK got a serous knife issue, The laws on people carrying knifes needs to be made like guns, Hard jail time for people walking around with knifes robbing weaker people like myself, It is why nobody actually will buy an expensive E-bike, God forbid spending 6 grand on an E-bike, You become a target to thieves driving around in vans looking for high end bikes, I asked my local MP if a place inside the shops can be set up so peoples expensive E-bikes can be locked away under some proper security, Like why can't something be set up so people get free GPS air tags to put on their bikes regardless of what motor or what controller is on it, I asked the local MP if it was possible to get shops to build a place inside say like Tesco's where people can put there bike in some type of lock up, Under CCTV and a security guard, And charge 50p for people to lock there beloved bikes, A bike becomes a very personal item, Especially if yo built it yourself, No body likes some other dude ripping on their bike now do they, lol, I am pretty lucky though I can walk my bike around the shop with me while I shop, I only get enough to fill a basket, Plus the bike is not bigger than the troller people push in front of them, I seen people use a troller for a few items, lol, But yeah it is how you carry yourself, Lidls is pretty good like that though, Asda though, The rudest shop in the UK lol, Apart from the security I found, Usually the security are pretty decent people...
The UK needs to embrace the E-bike and PEV world, America got it right with the 750w rule, Everything I have read about E-bikes 750w seems to be the preferred and right amount of power and it only does about 30mph so you not getting away from the law now is you doing 30mph lol, It seems that 750w is the middle ground on power and speed, And with PEV transport predicted to be how people travel in the future not listening to the people who want to use these PEV vehicles, There is just out dated law's or motor laws getting in the way of progress, While every other counrty is using PEV's to improve how people travel in the city, E-bike or PEV's roads or split up pathways to accommodate for PEV vehicles, And the law's are a bit daft, Like is a supercar not allowed to drive on a 30 road, Just because you got the power don't mean you is going to unleash that power risking other peoples safety, It is the person riding the PEV, If they cause an accident because they are stupid and selfish, Then yeah take their bike and chuck the law at them, But people who using the little bit over powered E-bike motors because of weight or health issues are made to look like those people doing bad things on E-bikes, A few spoil it for the many, Plus 15mph on a road with cars going past at 30, With the curb to your left, And oncoming cars to the right, All within a meter space is just plain daft, An accident waiting to happen, I really do not feel safe riding a bike on the roads with cars that got people who would rather text on wats app than look at what is front of them, I notice females I see the most texting on their phones, Being on the bike I can see right into the car, Damn I seen one dude on a moped next to a high school entrance I might add, Texting on his phone while driving a moped, But yeah the roads is way too dangerous for a 15mph limit, People who drive cars do not like people on E-bikes is hated more than people who have not got an E-bike, Ride your bike on the main roads at your own risk, and wear a full face helmet like bacon butties is, Those what I call half a helmet, That just covers your head, What about your face, I don't see how those half a helmet actually is legal lol, But yeah I am passionate about E-bikes and PEV's, The E-scooters is an amazing way to travel, It is weird but a lot more fun than a bike standing up going 30mph, I really do enjoy travelling on the E-scooter, In the summer it is even better, lol, But yeah the E-bike is a lot more practical, And using the pedals with the motor al lot more distance on one charge, Either way the UK needs to sort out the E-bike motor laws, And let the public decide by way of voting, Or follow Canada and America on how they have sorted it, Just look at the E-bike sales in America and Canada, lol....
    Happy E-bike riding....

Is that Andy kirby kit he's to expensive. Doesn't matter what motor you have as long you use restrict wire connection police can't do nothing but if you disconnect that wire to make full power we'll I'm in trouble depending on the police that stops you. My display is like a clutch so on 1 12mph 2 28mph 35mph 4 38 mph 5 43mph. So I can if I'm doing 34mph I press button to one and bike drop straight to 12mph. The two blue wires I've got through a switch so if I'm going to fast and police are around I just flick switch then I'm road legal. That's why a kit is made with two blue wires to restrict. Then when you get off the road then you can do what you want. Kirby bikes are to expensive and personal there rubbish he buys from China and sells to us its better to buy a kit from Ebay not amazon you pay more at amazon or better still buy from China but you have to wait a couple of month. Have you still got the fat tyre bike that's the only fault with the fat tyre bike the seat is to close to krank hence it's acward to peddle now that's the law you have to peddle not sit and throttle
