- Robert Downey Jr. is currently the highest paid actor in Hollywood, starring in multiple box-office hits such Iron Man, the Avengers and Sherlock Holmes.
Downey is currently in the UK promoting his new film, The Judge, co-produced by his production company Team Downey and starring Downey himself.
I actually really enjoyed seeing him interact with a younger audience. It also felt like he was a bit more vulnerable here because he felt he needed to live up to the expectations of the young fans in the room. I think his true personality came through along with all of its quirks. I’m glad his past wasn’t brought up. I think that’s been discussed enough already.
I checked all my sounds settings to realise, this audio is fked up.
The L and R Chanel are out of phase. Either reverse the phase or switch off either of them.
Or just listen with headphones that works too
Wow. Huge respect to Robert Downey Jr for being so kind to the 'radio play writer'. That was such a nice thing to do. I would imagine that is as close a nightmare for an actor as it gets.
RDJ is awesome. I loved it when he did the British accent.
Alex Martinson It was an English accent. I know England is in Britain, but you wouldn't call a French accent "The Schengen accent", would you? It's a vague American trend to call it "The British accent". Try to be a bit more specific, otherwise it sounds like you are treating Britain as a single country. Just so you know, I'm not having a go at you at all, I'm just trying to educate you about my sovereign state that's all. :)
Buck Futtock Thanks. I know it is an English accent. He is trying to sound Posh. Normally people call it British accent in USA even though it does not sound correct and I agree with you on that. But I think in this particular context you are knit picking. I am sure you would not have done it if you knew enough about the American English that's spoken out in the streets.
I wasn't knit picking, I was just stressing that England is a unique country that often gets lumped under the British banner, and as a result it loses some of it's individualism as a singular country and creator of this fine language. Loads of people do it in America, so I'm not blaming you. I just wish America new more about England, that is all. The thing is; Britain cannot be compared to America as Britain is a sovereign state, not a country like America. England on the other hand, is a country and can be compared to America. :)
It's "nitpicking", not "knit picking".
Lol crap, like everyone on the internet seems to be because we don't really know much about each other.
Yes. I never knew how very real and authentic this man really was. Yes.
Wow, it was really a pleasure watching him speak/interact here. This is the first interview I've seen of him... wow, 6 years since Iron Man was released, I should have checked him out earlier!
take a shot everytime robert says '' You know''
RERESE2 This comment needs more likes 😂
Loving the audio quality. You guys have a future in Hollywood
"so...whats it like meeting Scarlett Johansen" Are you freaking kidding??? the dumbest question ever!!!!! cant believe she goes to Cambridge! Poor Robert!
Why? Although, a better question might be, "what do you think of her?"
He's such a great role model. So awesome!
I can not imagine having some one like Robert Downey Jr who poors so much into public appearances, is known for his generosity to his fans and seems genuinely grateful for his sucess then purposefully asking him questions that have a history of pushing his buttons.
Robbie 'Down with the kids' Junior, got to be the best actor of his generation (which is a pretty strong generation). Amazing actor and from what I can tell, a top bloke all round.
Interviewer is a disaster. Respect to RDJ for his patience.
Does anyone else think RDJ seems a bit uncomfortable here?
I think it's more that the interviewer isn't very good and it led to very awkward interaction between the two. The kid who is asking the questions quite obviously didn't do a lot of real research or pre-planning in crafting his questions. RDJ always interviews better when the interview feels more like a conversation and less like a Q&A.
Bridget B Agreed. How hard would it have been to find a film buff at Cambridge, who might be more inclined to get into his acting influences, directors and films he admires, etc? Rather that right off the bat, "Hey, what's the inside scoop on the next comic book movie?" like some 13-year-old fanboy who's waiting to get a poster signed. Downey is clearly an intelligent, thoughtful guy and it's a shame he didn't have an interlocutor to match.
It’s the chair lol
Downey was way too smart for that crowd, maybe one or two articulate intellectuals among them. They were not prepared for him. He was patient but I think by the end he just wanted out of there, not one serious question among them. So much for higher education.
This interview is Amazing!!!!!!! It's a must watch! Guys watch it on a laptop or something and not mobile devices! it helps with the sound
they should have asked him more serious questions, he answers them so well
despite the interviewer's fumbling, a pretty good q & a
How could you even hear the video??
more than 182 "you know's"? aahhahahaahaha still great interview ;) so darn relaxed
RDJ is the best actor of his generation and given the right role will one day win an academy award (he should have won for Chaplin). But this interview annoyed me. He is such a complex character and none of the questions asked even scratched the surface of what makes him tick. No-one addressed the elephant in the room i.e. his past. It was fandom. I love the guy, but I wish he was tested a little more here.
I know it has always been stated in the comments , but it was unbelievable generous of him to do the recordings for the student.
Sound is not working
This interview is PAINFUL to watch. How the hell the host is so awkward, shallow and lazy? Given the chance to interview RDJ, I would prepare a good set of questions spanning his career, his publicized life and his accomplishments. I would have jokes and also deep questions, and I would have a list of pre approved topics to cover. But the question no one has ever asked him is very intimate and personal, and maybe he would be right if he decks the person asking, but I would ask it anyway: " How does your experiences with failure and extreme consequences formed you as an actor, as a person, and a husband and father? " " Do you think the way you fought to reinvent yourself in real life is what makes you hero's journey in the Iton man films so compelling?" " How impacted your younger years the 90's Hollywood scene?" and, of course, " Can I get Jeremy Renner's number please?"
Babs Galv the last question is CLEARLY the most important here
Ah great can hear it now 😃
@cambridgeunionsoc Is there a version with fixed Audio?
Watch the guide to recognizing you saints. Great movie.
Cambridge is cool we love em !
can anyone who was present their tell me why he was pointing to some people in particular and smiling..just curious thanks
i love seeing rdj out of his element lol
Why have they not thought to set up stationary microphones? This is Cambridge Union for goodness sake
RDJ is our generations Marlon Brando
Wtf is wrong with the audio
Use headphones, they've fucked up the sound during recording or whatever but headphones work
Oh, that's an easy one. I'm afraid it's part & parcel of a Cambridge Union guest slot. Crap audio, atrocious camera angles and a deer in the headlights fuckwit interviewer.
does anyone know what the guy says at 36:34?
I kind of think this was a wasted q and a session and he got bored. At the end where he is asked a deep question about 'second chances' he really engages and commits to answering well. Why doesn't someone ask him about philosophical questions or addiction issues.
29:20 when he's playing tony stark he is mildly "something"? what did he say? i cant hear it coz the mic was being funny :(
i know this was 8 months ago but he says “mildly insufferable”
Just saying Oxford club does not have audio trouble :P
I come here every so often to see if they corrected the audio.. but nope.. you realise it's a crime right 😭💔
watch it on a laptop. try with and without earphones
@@barbararidhiwani2827 HI...Thank you so much
@@AMI2151 welcome. Glad if it worked
Am i the only one whose sound doesn’t work or you all playing me in the comments?
No sound
What is happening??
2014 and still using IR transmitters... whut??
The sound is all messed up? Can only hear static? 😣
Same
It's really annoying! The best guest they've had lol
Try on a laptop with and without earphones.
"everyone leave" haha
Does he not know about the film lucy?
I finally "heard" this thing!!! And i feel like my life is complete :P It works in a laptop. Thank you Barbara ridhiwani for telling me
RDj couldnt wait to get out of there, got bored real quick!
Can someone here something?!?! I thought my ears r DEAD!
RDJ is the best.
At least I realised that I'm the only one to receive this with fucked up audio.
RDJ EDIT
💌
God these question are Banal in the Extreme.
sound????
the audio works with earphones only y'all
Very charismatic guy, but you can tell the demons are being pushed down hard.
✌✌✌✌✌
"is that as good as the new avengers?" wow what a stupid question. A good follow up to RDJ saying he worked at an ice cream counter would have been "does the fact you worked those service jobs keep you grounded and helps you realise the success you've had?". There's surely better interviewers in Cambridge than this guy.

Nice bodyguard RDJ 53.30 - 54.59 . And hes the only one not looking at the camera when taking pictures coz hes attentive if something happen to RDJ..Just saying..lol😃😉
Could they have found a more wooden and inflexibly awkward person to conduct this interview?
+HarpoTheVillain. They tried but the only alternative was some bloke called jeSUS ... he was too expensive, sadly.
LOL
I enjoyed him: he is young, student, very genuine.
ameagher2 so hilarious but I feel bad for laughing at the same time
dam I thought, now I know, this interview blows I expected more from these kids what is a question to a conversation, a question is set forth to learn a skill or fact but dam they care way to much what people think of their show never will i ever watch another one
He is anxious. Sad and disheartening that someone who is so successful, still struggles with this.
Hen9207 Actually the atmosphere was anxious, the interviewer was absolutely wrong, he seemed very shy and he looked a bit challenged.
madelena1234 it would be quite intimidating to interview RDJ just saying. Don’t know what to expect from him at times
Nothing against Downey, but why is an actor speaking at the Cambridge Union?
Cory Dupont because he is fucking iron man you dipshit
@@hisworkmanship7258 lol
The Union needs money. More students will pay membership if there are popular events as well as the debates that are the Unions real purpose.
👶❤💕❤💕❤💌💌
I expected better from the English. Really horrible questions, bad interviewer, tech problems. Geez.
This was Disappointing
Meeting of the mindless. Pointless.
Shallow questions, shallow answers showing a restricted vocabulary, with many Awesomes and Weirds and Cools. He's short, and short on personality and - shallow? Little effort made to deliver. Poor, poor value when compared to the results from Bill Maher and Russell Brand @ Oxbridge Unions, both perceptive and opinionated. Maher especially, worth a listen outside the comfort of his TV studio. Downey's just a disappointment.
It's not actually a competition. RDJ left high school before graduation to go for acting jobs. Many roads lead to success. His road had a lot of complications. He has millions of fans. If you are not one I wonder why you chose to watch this?
can anyone who was present their tell me why he was pointing to some people in particular and smiling..just curious thanks
