It's all about how they follow up. I remember when Rampage first came out and Tony Khan said it would never be a "B show." I used to watch it every week. Now it's completely skippable and gives me Heat/Velocity vibes.
Comparing Rampage to Velocity is an insult to Velocity; Rampage is on the same level as Superstars and 205 Live towards the end of their runs
Rampage does itself no favors with the constant cold opens. That always bothered me. Unless it's Orange Cassidy, they go right into the match, which makes it feel like a C show.
You must not be that smart if you thought Rampage was a B show. Rampage was a one hour show just so that Dynamite wouldn't be 3 hours long. You fans are stupid to think Rampage was going to be anything bigger.
I think the issue with this is he did try. He had big names on the show for a time - but ratings still weren't great. That's a bad look. When you have your top stars on a show but it's still doing low numbers. So the solution is to not put top stars on the show. Then the numbers can be 'blamed' on it being a show not featuring top talent.
That's my theory at least.

A big detriment to Rampage was the random hours it would come on around the NBA/NHL playoffs. I am just now remembering that Rampage is back to normal hours.

So the dynamite following collision doing less than gangbusters of tickets isn’t a surprise for me. You can only go to the same well so many times before you burn it out. that's the thing, right now there's too much wrestling.... but it has to be really GOOD, almost perfect to make people watch it on saturdays.

It's going to do a big rating right out the gate just like Rampage did, but it's important where it settles in, they need to consistently do big things on the show. They should do stuff like having War Games on Collision instead of Dynamite this year, do MJF/Cole for the title on a big episode of collision etc.
And they gotta figure out the drama between Punk and the other guys. Having Punk on the show is great, but outside of that, they don't have big stars, the card for the debut episode outside of Punk is pretty bad. I don't care how much they try to pretend Miro and Andrade are stars, they just aren't. You need Moxley, The Elite and Jericho on the show at least sometimes.
I read an idea of doing Omega and Okada Vs. Osperay and Danielson week 2, that's a good idea and a hook for next week.

I agree with you on making Collision special but please no more Moxley and the Elite man....maybe Jericho, Danielson, Mark Henry, Big Show and Christian should show up and help with some segments but they need to start building guys like Hobbs, Roderick Strong, Takeshita, Starks, Miro Juice Robinson, etc. and create good storylines so the audience can be invested in this new product, Ospreay and Okada are great talent, I have nothing against those guys, but they are not from the company, the only people that want to watch those guys are the hardcores that are going to watch no matter what you put in the show, Why would you fill a spot with outsiders instead of building guys with potential from your roster?. Miro and Andrade are not stars at all but in the wrestling world they are more famous than the pillars and can attract people that used to watch them in WWE.
The creative for Collision needs to be impeccable, making the audience excited for the continuation of the storylines on the next shows, because a random cold match between good technical or strong style wrestlers is not a draw for the audience outside the hardcore fans.
So far the little of what was announced for Collision looks good. If they book like this all the time maybe except on UFC and WWE PPVs nights then it should be a strong show moving forward.

I don't think that AEW or Punk are in any position to do work shoots at this moment because it has been proven for months now every time Punk has opened his mouth it set the company back. It's also completely 1 sided. The Elite have moved on completely they haven't said word 1 for months so shooting on the Elite with them having no chance to respond will set the company back further. He just needs to STFU and start getting in fans good graces

I am a die hard fan of AEW but I think collision will be a downfall. Two live shows so early in the company will be difficult to manage creatively plus punk divides the locker room, so tht can never be good. I hope it makes it but I doubt

Do you remember the Cody universe and the Elite universe in the first and second year of AEW? the Elite divided the locker room a long time ago, they only work with their californian clique/PWG indie minded guys, the bucks even made SCU split and the bad creative drove away Kazarian to Impact because of the different way of viewing the business.
Tony Khan shouldn't book Collision, Collision would be watchable if another guy with experience on booking wrestling shows (Delirious) was in charge.

Why do I keep hearing about wrestlers having to be on the road from Wednesday to Saturday. WWE wrestlers have done house shows and had to drive to shows all week. Why is this a big deal? The old timers must be laughing at those comments. 6 or 7 days on the road for them in past years. AEW wrestlers might have to wrestle twice a week? Really? Wow!

They have nine weeks until the beginning of College Football to establish the tone and tenor of Collision. Grab those casuals if you can but by August 26th, the competition gets very fierce. They can do it, if they put their minds to it. Hahaha.

Calling Rampage a success is a stretch. They have sold just 909 tickets for one of the Collision shows in Canada. Can’t call that a success.
And we actually have no evidence if AEW as a whole is a success - we have no idea if it even turns a profit, or if it does, whether they have increased or decreased over the past year.

AEW+ on Fite being commercial free isn't even that great because you just have to look at an AEW graphic for 5 minutes instead, with loud annoying music
The problem is AEW did anything in their power to make this debut episode as less appealing as possible despite the immense potential it could have had with a stronger and more organic build

Is anyone confident this show will catch on? Is anyone talking about it? Is there any buzz? Is CM Punk still making a positive and significant difference in numbers? No. It seems like the timing could not be worse. Plus all the AEW fans remember when TK said Rampage would be an "A" show, so why should be believe that Collision wont be a nothing show by the end of the year?
It sucks rampage isn't live and on at 10pm some collisions won't be live either after the first hand full of shows. Only time rampage jumped is the CM Punk debut and it was live

Ultimately it all comes down to the booking. The day and time slot is one huge factor when it comes to ratings but at the end of the day if the show isnt booked strong, viewers will never tune in.
Dynamite is clearly the A show. I never watch Rampage and never feel like im missing out on anything important within AEW because nothing important ever really happens on Rampage - i get everthing I need from AEW - the big matches, the main storylines, the main stars, all on Dynamite.
So Rampage clearly comes off as being the B show. Rampage had a strong launch and felt like a big deal for its first couple of weeks but then it settled into its B show mould.
Now we have Collision - again, possibly a strong launch and maybe a strong couple of opening weeks, but then what? Collision isnt competing with Dynamite to be relevant as a A show. Its competing with Rampage to be the B show, hell, a lot of people already seeing Collision as being the C show.
Strong booking, matches, stars and main storyline progression can make Collision must watch TV and ensure it doesnt become an afterthought - but if AEW have struggled to do that for Rampage, then why should i believe they can do if for Collsion?
Im actually enjoying ROH and IMPACT more than AEW lately except for a few things . Forbidden Door im still looking forward to as I love NJPW and it seems like a fun show . So im not knocking AEW but I think they still have some serious issues ahead .
CM Punk did so much freaking damage to AEW. He has so much to make up for. Of course I am going to watch because I love AEW but they not CM Punk are in any position to do work shoots. It's pretty obviously gonna fail, and not because of Punk, but because of the day and timeslot, there not being any demand for a second show, half the roster, and the ticket sales being way too high, which, it would not surprise me if the extra high ticket sales were an Elite suggestion to Tony Khan, so that they would be guaranteed to outdraw him.

I mean I know why Monday is raw. Tuesday is NXT. Wednesday is dynamite. Thursday is too close to dynamite. Friday is smackdown and rampage. Sunday is pay-per-views/UFC

The ‘talent’ gets paid more than enough to travel out to 2 shows a week, if need be.

There are plenty of shows where they might show up for a 60-second promo or a short run in. Not even a match.
They might not like the extra travel, but that’s because they’ve had it so nice and em so easy for so long.
