- One of the two pregnant foster cats we have finally had her kittens today. We have five newborns! One of them was touch and go for a while because the momma had the kitten on the cold basement floor and not in the birthing box we had set up for her. Dr. Lindsay was able to warm up the little guy and it seems to be fine now. This cat must be a first timer for kittens and is a little lost with what she is supposed to do. But the other pregnant momma is taking over and helping with the kittens.

I've seen this before with older mother cats, well after a couple of litters. They learn that 5 kittens is a drain on her, so they will leave one or two kittens behind, when she moves the litter to the permanent den. Or she will pull kittens out of the den, and leave them someplace else. And finally, she will always show preferential treatment to the kittens that look most like herself. That's why she wasn't washing and stimulating the ginger kittens.
I've owned cats, and worked with ferals for 50 years, most of my life. In the wild, they have to do what is best for her, or she loses all of them.
Lindsey (sp/), is so dedicated. It takes a special kind of person to be such a concerned Doc. She is sop sweet.

Thank you Mrs. Chigg for the work you do. My wife and I care for ten rescued cats. Two mothers came to us pregnant and had four kittens each. All are now spayed or neutered and vaccinations. It’s a chore feeding eight cans of food plus dry crunchies throughout the day, and cleaning four litter boxes, but someone had to step up and give them a forever home. I glad we did it. Again thank you for helping the animals.
Thank you also doug and mrs doug. You have a lot of love and I'm so glad for the spay/neuter programs. I've always said if I win THE lottery, I would fund a traveling spay/neuter program. Fingers crossed🤞🙏

Aww! That happened to a feral mama I fostered (three mamas at the same time!) 10 yrs ago this month ... 5 babies, one was shoved off to the side in the nesting box. By the time I found it, it was beyond saving, although I tried mightily. I'm glad Dr Lindsay is on call to help. It's so sad how many babies are destroyed every year ... Thank you for the update! I love when Mrs Lindsay brings home fosters! we once had a barn cat that was abandoned as a kitten, she ended up pregnant 3 weeks before she was to be spayed. She wasn't a good mother either, we figured it was because she never experienced what having a "cat mother" was like. She was only ever helped by people...
we helped with all her kittens, got them old enough to be spayed and neutered and then made sure they were in homes with people we personally knew. kittens are just too cute!

That’s probably why the mom stuck it in the corner because of the leg issue animals aren’t dumb the mother would rather see it pass away than struggle it’s whole life…… obviously the cat isn’t aware of the healing powers of the doc on duty. Thanks for sharing see you on the next one👍🏼👊🏼

I don't think mamma kitty was a bad mamma. She knew something was wrong and probably put the kitten out of the box.

glad all the kittens are doing OK so far, hopefully Mom will get in to the swing of motherhood. Hope the next birth goes a little more smoothly.
man, I remember the days. We belonged to an animal rescue group. and fostered a lot of kittens. it always turned out that if you had five kittens you cued Alwas get homes for the three kittens and will last two aaa. at one time we adopted 41 cats.

Our cat was abandoned by her momma at a friend’s house almost two years ago. Luckily my daughter heard her crying in the bushes when we were there caring for the animals. She was all the way on the opposite side of the house from the rest of the litter when they were 6 days old. She was freezing cold and had fly eggs on her. We didn’t think she would make it through the night. However, many days and days nights of eye dropper and bottle feeding every three hours, and wiping her butt to teach her to poop, she became a grumpy cat. Our vet said she would be a biter since she was raised by non-felines.

Hopefully the mother cat will let them nurse at least two to three days so they can get the nutrients needed for their immune system.
