Hey! 70 is not that old. I happen to be 70 and I'm young. Actually I'm jealous of your mom. She has a wonderful daughter who is willing to; spend quality time with her, travel with her, and take care of her. She raised you right!
It’s such an individual thing. My mum is 71 and going down hill really fast. She was fine up till a few months but currently waiting on a diagnosis for what’s happened to her as she’s gone so fast. Even since Christmas she’s gone from a bit forgetful to no memory at all. Really worrying
Me too! Wish my son's were as capable as these too. Could have come in handy when I was trying to build the electric system in my wee van.(which I've insulated and built out myself) just don't ask how many naughty words it took! In NZ buggar doesn't count that's a polite word for things that go wronge, dropped, doesn't work you name it. Plus small naughty annoying child...a little bugga.
All jokes aside I think a tracker would be an excellent idea. It would take a lot of anxiety away. Well-done to the three of you. Resilience is the name of the game. And Lou you are totally correct about the windscreen.
😄 My mom is 84 and I have to teach her how to open her email every day. Then how to delete the mail that she doesn't want after explaining junk mail.... she won't let me just do it for her because "I have to learn how to do it myself" She used to know all this but forgot. Bless you, for taking your mom along and being patient, you won't regret it in the long run.
I don't get it, I'm 81, my smartphone is my life, I bank, buy almost everything online, am on Faceache, Twitter, Instagram, Whatsapp and Zoom, which makes keeping in touch with grandkids in particular easy. I think old people can do it it's just they're too lazy to try something new.
I’m 72 and also have a micro camper. My third. I’d love to see more of Joanie’s travelling life. Maybe what she likes and what she’d change in her van etc as she gets used to it. There’s apparently quite a few groups for mature women campervanners tho I prefer to do my own thing. Thoroughly enjoy your channel. Thanks. Jan
Oh my gosh. The bee and no buildings gave me a huge laugh. Enjoy traveling with you mum. I'm so proud of her for going with you. Enjoy and safe travels.
Aw Girls i watched this video on mothers day ( germany) and it made me cry , how you are looking after your mum Lou, i lost my mum 2002 i miss her every day, so have fun with your mum and keep safe you guys. MY FAV CHANNEL ON YOU TUBE yous are . PS Your Mum is real cool doing her travels at her age RESPECT. Janie xx
Wow take my hat off to your Mum for having the courage to drive on the wrong side of the road !! don't be to hard on her she is doing amazingly well, and also well done to you both for helping her along the amazing adventure together, hope the rest of the trip goes a bit smoother for you all and look forward to the next instalment😍😍
I’m sorry but when Joanie said see could see a big Bee I nearly fell off the Chair laughing, Bless her !! I had a French trip with my 78 year old Dad following me a few years back and this brought the memories flooding back, after losing him for the 3 rd time in a Day I had to stop and have a walk to de stress…It was great trip in the end so stick with it, it’s gonna be Fab 😊😊
My kids put a location app on my phone. I drove from Wisconsin to Florida by myself last year for the first time I'm 66. I was terribly lost when my son called to tell me I was going the wrong way. Irritating , but helpful 😅.
I know I’m coming at these all randomly and commenting months (years) after the event, but I love that you put pineapple on your pizzas Emily (I thought only us Aussies did that!), and I love that you have your mum travel with you sometimes Louise.
🤣🤣🤣 oh Lou, you looked stressed before you’d even got on the Chunnel! Let this be a lesson to all, *don’t* let your parents, uncles, aunties etc be left behind by evolving tech! As someone around the same age as Joannie, I’ve learned you need to stay as up to date as you can afford to
Hey joannie i am 72 from maine u.s. you go with your tom tom at least i knew what you were talking about on our honeymoon we used cb radio lol dont take gump from those young whipper snappers
The big windscreen company's are so expensive as most of their work is through insurance companies. Always shop around the smaller companies for the best price if you don't have insurance.
I've just got to say that 69 is not 'old' and your mom hanging with you two will get the gist of technology at some point. My aunt is 82 and is traveling all over America with another 80+ year old woman and they have had very few problems in the past few years doing it. Hang in there...she's got this! ☺
I was driving a Fiat Ducato 7.4 metre long motorhome hired through Wilderness Motorhomes in New Zealand with my two 9 year olds earlier this year - we got a chip bigger than a New Zealand 50 cent coin, with kind of spiral fractures all around... support team sent us to a glass place and they repaired it, fascinating to watch - the entire chip kind of disappears after they are done! It was scary when it happened, on a ridge, sealed road, there was a van in front and it was kicked up by them I think - sounded like a gunshot at close range, gave me such a fright! As a sole parent and no co-pilot on the trip, I was being super cautious. Joanie is such a trooper, love her energy. Onwards and upwards for your journey - you are both amazing :)
Reminds me of trying to tell my mother in law how to re-tune her television from 50 miles away .(Absolutely horrendous) had to download her tv manual and then tell her over the phone what to press !! went on for three thousand years, then she would only use the first 5 channels - in case she didn't know how to get back, fun and games have a great trip - treasure these moments as they don't last forever, lost her 4 years ago . Happy travels Ian and Sue
Another great adventure 😉. One of your subscribers mentioned using an air tag to track Tilly. The air tags are great, we have 8 of them. And, we are both over 70 years old. So be nice to you mom. France seems like a great place to camp.
"F#@ing great bee"Love it. 😂 Better set her up with what 3 words and give her a quick tutorial. Or turn on location sharing. Hope you have a great trip!
It’s not old, I remember being in my early 20’s and thinking people in their 30s were really proper adult and now im closer to 40 im like nope, no im not 😂😂
One can permanently share position information on both Android and iPhone. Maybe a good idea to enable that for anyone who might get lost while traveling :)
That´s what I´ve been saying all along! When the hole is too big, it has to be replaced!🤐 A wonderfully chaotic video, that giant bee got me! There is an sense of adventure on fixing problems as you go along. One has to be creative and stay patient. Easier said than done. Great video and scenery!
10:10 Gotta love how she is next to several large buildings and the thing she focuses on is a small wasp statue, a statue she expects others to see. Id put an apple airtag on her and her car, just in case she wanders off again and tries using a bugs life for reference.
I think the pair of you are such a lovely couple and love following along on your adventures 😀 we are just about to head into Wales so might cross paths one day ❤️ xx
The green Citroen Mahari is a great 1970s vehicle, I have an orange one in La Nucia a few miles outside of Benidorm that I've had since 1989. Great fun, been all over the Costa Blanca in it when I used to live there permanently. Still passes the Spanish MOT every year with only consumables for servicing. It's very simple and can be serviced and repaired with a Swiss army penknife.😂 With it being orange everybody can see it and crash into anything else except me.👍🥳
Typical trip! I broke down in Spain and my Spanish is null! I can understand your struggle. Joanie is doing very well!! I started Vanlife, alone, a 59, and it can be dompting! Well done all three of you!! Bon voyage..
Totally the right thing to do; getting your mums windscreen fixed. What an amazing daughter and DIL you both are, worrying about her. Can’t wait to see your travels. Funny vlog as always 😂
I sure hope this cracked windshield/getting separated/tech challenged/noisy jerks setback hasn't caused Joanie any regrets about traveling - or for you gals either! Hoping the rest of your adventure is much more fun for all of ya. Take care and safe travels :)
I’m a bit like Joan with tech and I’m only 60. Maybe not quite as bad, but not far off 😬 Glad I caught one of your vids. Chuckles always appreciated 🫶🏻
Well having travelled in France with my dad who was 81 at the time we know more than most what your going through!! Especially when your dad calls it the snat nav 🤪 we did use the walkie talkies and they were invaluable !! Maybe give those another go? We put my dads on his visor so he just needed to press the button and speak - his van also broke down and we visited lots of garages trying to sign for a clamp for his exhaust 🤪 in the end we went to a garden Centre got some strong wire and Mark made it work 🤣 you gotta love ‘em ♥️ well done girls it’s not easy but on the other hand Joanie will be loving it and that’s what matters ❤ xxx
Props to Joanie for tackling the adventures! Lou, be nice to your mum! We just celebrated Mothers Day here in the USA and you are lucky to have such a brave mum to travel with you. Yeah mums! Have fun!
@campervibe there are two quick ways to secure your windshield temporarily. The other is to put superglue in the cracks, especially in the tips of the cracks. The other is to put clear packing tape over the crack. But you can only do this if the crack is not blocking your view.
Omg guys…I feel like I need a stiff gin and tonic after watching your vid…as Emily would say ‘the stress is real’….well done to Joanie for soldiering on, and I’ve got everything crossed that those last few days are the end of the messy ones, and that it’s all glorious sunshine, gorgeous parkups and very nice neighbours from now on 💕
There is an old joke/question that springs to mind straight away, "what would you rather bee or a wasp" 😂😂😂😂😂😂. You young whipersnappers leave us old uns alone, the nearest we ever got to tech was the ping pong game on the atari (dont even go there saying "the a-watty-i") have a great holiday all of you.
Joan come to ireland. You ,me and Edward will start an OAP revolution! Cee from the little haunted cottage in ireland 💚💚💚🍀🍀🍀 P.S. we will do it with out sat nav!
Consider yourself liked and dinged. Good to see you all. I'm an old fart. 65. I'm well up on tech. But then, I once worked at Microsoft. It was all about windows millennium and y2k back then. Go easy on mum. She's doing her best...
Another fab vlog maybe you need to share your location on Google maps, or Joanie does)😁 fingers crossed for a safe journey to the sun! I couldn't help laughing at the hotel you could have googled, when all Joanie could talk about was the bee🤭
I think we have to remember the size of France and population compared to the UK which is why there are not so many places to park, it’s all relative 👍🏻
Currently going through a really poo time at home with my husband in hospital at the moment recovering slowly from kidney trouble and sepsis and your video brought a smile to my face. Thank you.
Well that's a great week of starting your France trip all together shame about the chip but in time the window screen will be 100% keep safe and having fun

70 is the new 50, didn't you know?
Yup, my O/H is 70 in October in glad he's o.k with technology. He's not old either. 👍😄
You need an AirTag for Tilly
Exactly what I was going to say! And get her a satnav, even if you have to plug in the destination for her.
Yep, me too. Get an AirTag or GPS tracker for her. I have one for my camper and it’s definitely come in handy.
Air Tag on your mother directly
All jokes aside I think a tracker would be an excellent idea. It would take a lot of anxiety away.
Well-done to the three of you. Resilience is the name of the game. And Lou you are totally correct about the windscreen.

I do the same with my mum (93), but she has mastered texting!
My mum is 71 and can’t do any of that. She could a few months ago. Waiting for a diagnosis at the moment but the NHS is under so much pressure
