    I've already upgraded pickups and switches to EMG on 2 guitars and now working on the third, then a bass. EMG has always been the best, but this easy install makes it that much better. Aside from the video, the instructions it comes with are clear as day. Customer for life and I'll pass it on to my son, as well! Plz sponsor me lolol All jokes aside, the solderless system is awesome.

    Monique.... Why do I get an out of phase tone when I use both pickups on my Paul.... just installed an 81TWX and an 89XR all solderless w toggle. Used the standard LP control layout. and I used the provided vols and active tones. Each pickup sounds normal in single coil mode and humbucker but when both pickups are selected in single or humbucker, I get a slight out of phase tone, especially when I use a boost pedal. THEY SOUND INSANE THO!!!! Well done.

    • @vicrattlehead8858
      @vicrattlehead8858 3 года назад +1

      Because they are active pickups. They have their own preamps, and they need a separate battery to run. If they were passive pickups they wouldn't need the battery. I totally agree though dude, EMG has made an awesome system here. Hope this information helps.

  • @williamyoung3070
    @williamyoung3070 5 лет назад +5

    They were smart to use an instrument with easy passages to snake the pickup connector cables through. Try sending the cable from a rear routed control cavity to a neck pickup on a solid body with no pickguard via the small bored hole designed for solderable pickup leads. Not gonna happen.
    It is a ton of fun opening up that hole so the EMG connector will pass through. Sometimes you can't just drill it out bigger and have to attack it with hand tools. Then you run the risk of the floor of the pickup rout becoming ugly and unprofessional looking. After a certain point, it doesn't feel like a wiring upgrade. It feels like a chop job.
    But once it's done, the components are good and it all works well. Soldering is more satisfying though.

    Hi, since one of the volume potentiometer on my guitar ( equipped with a hardwired setup: Emg 81/Emg 60) produces scratchy noise and mutes the signal too, I'm planning to replace it with a fresh one.
    The only concern is that my guitar is a left handed one.
    At the moment with the stock hardwired connection potentiometers are correctly wired to operate for a left handed guitarist ( so not to use it in reverse).
    Is it possible to maintain the correct rotation of the pots with the new solderless system?
    To resume, is it possible to decide the turning direction of the pots ( as you could do with the hardwired connection), with the actual solderless system? Thanx in advance

      @@thrashtodeth9442 late to this, but she’s changing both the pickups of the guitar and the way the guitar is wired. Instead of the wiring being soldered (think of a glue thats made with metals), which can be pretty scary to try to do if it’s your first time. Making the wiring system solderless, all you’d have to do for future pick up changes (as long as they’re EMGs) is unplug the older pickups and plug in the new ones and you’re good to go. As opposed to having to solder wires to the pots that they belong to

An EMG emailed me and said " Probably the easiest route to go with this would be to change the single tone to a master tone affecting all the pickups. If you did it this way, you can just put the volume, tone, and VMC all in line with the output of the switch to the output jack. " That's as clear as mud. can someone help guide me on the installation? Ty for you time!!! Jim

    Not as simple as she makes it seem. The part she mentions about wires being different colors on different makes can end the process right there for a lot of people. Good luck as a novice trying to figure out which wire does which, especially on selector switches that are not included. For example I'm trying to hook up some Fat 55 in a PRS 594 that has a basic Gibson control layout and the switch wires have different colors, less number of wires than in the instructions, and are all twisted together in a clump of solder at the base making it impossible to figure out which is which without removing it all and starting from scratch, which kinda defeats the who idea of a simple plug and play installation. Frustrating.

    .. now take your router and make a neat little hole for the batteryplacement. Then drill some more holes for the wiring and then cut off the cable ends to soil it!

    • @nicolashrv
      @nicolashrv 6 лет назад

      you just need to connect pins to the passive pickup cable tips, and thats it.
      electronilab.co/tienda/regleta-conector-macho-2-54mm-40-x-1-pines/
      You can cut 1 or 2 of this pins or even 3.......also you can bend the tips to save space if you want (this is what you actually see on the terminas of an active pickup)

    Hell i just clipped the wires of my original pu and "twist-rigged" the h4 in the bridge of my Ibanez using electric tape in place of soldering and shrink sleeve so NOW it's back to the drawing board and THIS time I'm just gonna gut it out completely and rewire the whole system with the reflective "ground" tape and ALL lol ..... No MORE shorts ......

    I put 81 85 on my dean razorback killswitch, but the cavity is so small i had to remove the killswitch and even then the holes to get to the pickups/selector are too small so i couldnt connect the toggle switch, even with a pickup switch that has thin wires

      Similar situation I had with my Carvin LB75 bass.
      I'm installing volume controls for each pickup, which is easy. The space to install the BTS active EQ is a bit of extra effort. I wired up the pots before I installed them. Not getting any sound though.

    Hey, is there anyone here who has a link to the instructions for connecting an EMG P active P bass pups? I'm trying right now to instal these things but the instructions in the box are completely worthless (they're for other types I gues): I tried to follow the instructions and that makes so the B245 buss is left outside, but even if I go by logic instead of following the paper, there's just not enough cable connections to get the Buss B245 in. It's a nightmare. Somebody please give me some instructions.

      Ok I figured out the buffer B245 don't have to be installed, I really don't know why they put that in the kit... to mess with people brains?
