Ingredients:
10 Byadagi Chilies
1 tbsp
1 Bay Leaf
Stone flower
1 Star Anise
5 cloves
1 tbsp coriander seeds
1 tbsp Annie seeds
1/2 Nutmeg
1/2 inch cinnamon
1 tbsp poppy seeds
8 peppercorns
3 tbsp ghee
1 finely chopped onion
1/2 tbsp of each - ginger-garlic paste
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp red chili powder
2 tbsp of prepared garam masala
1/2 kg Mutton
1 cup Coconut&Onion Paste
Salt to taste
1 liter Water
Coconut&Onion Paste:
Take 1/2 fresh coconut, roast it until turns brown.
Take 2 medium sized onions, slice it and fry it nice and golden and make a paste of it.
Method of preparation:
In a wok, dry roast byadagi chilies and keep it aside.
Add oil to the wok and fry rest of the garam masalas.
Add Bay Leaf, Stone Flower, Star Anise, cloves, coriander seeds, Annie seeds, Nutmeg, cinnamon, poppy seeds, peppercorns and gently roast them until the masalas give out a lovely aroma.
Let the masalas cool down and then add the chilies as well and grind it into a fine powder.
Heat a pressure cooker, add ghee, onions, and saute it until the onions turn translucent.
Once the onions turn translucent add ginger-garlic paste, and saute them until the raw smell goes off.
Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and now add the garam masala that we've prepared. Mix them well.
Add mutton, and sear it on high flame for 5 minutes.
Add Coconut&Onion Paste, salt and water.
Pressure cook the mutton gassi until 1 whistle and then cook it more on low flame for 15 minutes and our gassi will be ready.
Take it out on a serving and it is ready to be served.

Nice recipe btw!
Thanks Smita for this wonderful recipe..
Welcome :)
Don't you think the water consistency was too much? She added a litre of water which would dissolve or wash off the flavor of coconut and onion paste. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Hi Lonely trees, The quantity of water is added keeping in mind to cook the mutton well. Thanks :)
Get Curried
oh yeah I understand Sir/Ma'am. I don't have idea about curries in South but this looked too watery to have with rice for ex. What I ve noticed in cooking meat in pressure cooker one can add little water cause the meat has its own juices to help cook in low flame and extra whistles. Thanks for the recipe I will try and update here.

@@abhijitksr1kr southern curries are very watery, they're almost like soups with lots of meat and vegetables in them.
In fact, the word 'curry', or 'Kari' refers to these dishes, and not really to the dryer northern ones.
Beautiful eyes ND receipe 2😉
In Goa v cal it mutton xautti.

Thanks for the amazing mutton soup recipe..
I will feel free to eliminate masala ...
The favourite part is when you pour the curry into bowl.. instead of placing it ..😂
Can mutton be substituted with Chicken? I don't like mutton....
Hi AKSTARK 7922, yes you can replace Mutton with Chicken in this recipe.
Technically, yes. chicken need not be pressure cooked and also doesn’t need a lot of water.
I need a aunty like you... I can eat delicious food daily
yes you are beautiful!
Its not a gassi we can name it as mutton soup..bcs ..water quantity is tooo much....and for gassi gravy should be thick..
I like u sister
In manglorean gassi garam masala is not used up try your mutton gassi as we bombayites like
kudla da gassi
You have also not put tomatoes or tamarind water this must be the karwari way
Oops..I'l try your mutton gassi...
