I’ve never seen anyone on Supermarket Sweep so truly lost. I think it was a combination of his nerves completely paralyzing him, fixating on the shopping list and getting overwhelmed, and likely never having seen a single episode of the show and not truly “getting” what the sweep is all about. Even when Leslie was roasting him in person I don’t think he fully understood what had happened and what he had done wrong. This is why you screen contestants and test them on their knowledge of the rules of the game!!
Leslie probably saw the Supermarket Sweep episode from 1991 where David Ruprecht got hit in the groin area with a shopping cart. She called the action from the manager's office in a Johnny Gilbert-style commentary, with her own little twist on it (screaming at Charles).

I can't properly express how aggravating it was to watch this when I saw this episode. Things like this make you wonder if he is a plant, but of course due to S&P that would not be allowed. You could almost somewhat excuse it at the beginning as he was looking for the shopping list but he just continued to walk around and study prices like he was shopping for himself.
Women are better at grocery shopping than men for the most part so I'm shocked and surprised that she let him do the market sweep instead of her. If this was me and my partner I would've been mad as hell and still be mad as hell today, shoot, tbh I would've held a forever grudge until he died, or until I died whichever came first.
This show really isn't about going shopping though, its about putting as much stuff in your carts as possible, and about grabbing the most expensive items.
