All the Playable characters in the games have been given canon names, but yes you do name them when you're playing so they aren't really ever mentioned IN the games. Red and the rival Blue are the only ones who kept the name of the games as their names, everyone else was given actual names lol. (though there is a manga called Pokemon Adventures, and each character in those is named after the games the current story is based off of.) I don't think you noticed or at least didn't bring it up, but each verse started with the rapper, and the name of the character they repped. Nah this isn't one of the recent ones, this is actually the 2nd Pokemon cypher that Cam made, the Eevee one being the first. Personally the confusion is understandable though, cuz I still think this one is the best overall lol. Others had verses that I LOVED, but this one was just the most consistent, I feel like EVERYONE killed it. That scene with Rosa and Brock was from the mobile game Pokemon Masters. Its a Gatcha game that brings in trainers from all the different mainline Pokemon games. That character in the middle was the generic Player character, only in Masters, not Ash lol.
5th gen is my favorite, hands down. The only issues i have with it is that the map is very linear and there are a few too many rival battles. Other than that, great graphics, animations, sound, music, snappy gameplay, great characters, pretty good story (for pokemon), all around just great.
