I do not agree that it is optimal to select 1440p mode on a 1440p screen... Downsampling has definite advantages, 4k looks great on a 1440p screen... it contains much more detail and removes aliasing. I myself use VSR 1800p on a 1080p screen on a PC and it is clearly better than playing at native resolution. 😉
So when i set my PS5 to 1440p in the system settings i get 1440p Freesync 120hz with the Performance Mode toggle OFF. When Performance Mode is ON i have 1440p Freesync 60Hz. Can someone explain please ? Which one is the best ?

I was so excited for 60fps. But i tried 40fps and for some reason i prefer it. I feel like the pacing suits it better and the native 4k extra foilage etc is nice
In the 1440p 60 fps you get like either framr drops or terrible frame times when you get inside some buildings or you get to boston and look to some specific direction it feels weird but you look an inch to the left or rigth and the 60 fps became perfect, but also i dont find that much difference on the 1440p vs 4K 60 details i can see the difference if i ise the 30 fps mode but not with the performance mode they look identical to my eyes except for less draw distances in the performance mode maybe the size of my 4K or the distance that i play at helps

What is the point in 30 FPS quality mode? You have to stand still to see a virtually non existent enhanced detail. Your character don't stand still playing games, you move, you want the higher frame rate to eliminate the slideshow effect which also give you a more stable image under motion.
30/40fps modes only work in newer games that look amazing. I can’t really see the point in it in a 10 year old game where every other texture is blurry as hell. They should’ve targeted dynamic 4k 60fps only for this “next gen” patch.
I was only looking with my naked eye while playing the game, but on my PS5 about 2 or 3 hours in from a new game I hadn't noticed any stutter. It might be your settings. All old Bethesda vets know you need to turn off the autosaves, they can cause a half sec skip type of feel to the game. Same thing with Elder Scrolls.
I just tweak the graphics in the Fallout Prefs file (PC) better draw distance, higher quality distan LOD, shadows ect than possible on the console. The update did not add anything new, all they did was tweak the settings to add 60fps and FOV which you could already change in the files anyway.. Lazy Bethesda!
Should play games in the way they were intended anyways IMO. SDR games should be played in SDR and games meant for HDR in HDR. A critical example of this is RDR2.

Yes. It all depends on the game and whether it supports refresh rates above 60. I think the highest this game will do is a locked 60 in performance mode.You should be able to achieve higher frame rates in other games like cod if your display has a native refresh rate of 120hz or more.
40fps mode looks and plays really well. But this game withouts mods is kinda boring (this is my 3rd run) Once I finish this run I'll try some mods on PS5 and see how it looks.

New Vegas is a good start instead of 4 if you wanna wait for kinks to get ironed out, sol long as you're fine with older visuals. It's the last game to have quality writing. Bethesda kinda warped Fallout into "wacky wasteland adventures" instead of post- post apocalypse US rebuilding. F4 is still a fun game though- just a departure writing and story wise.

The 40fps quality mode in 3rd person is my fave on PS5. Full crisp 4k resolution with high graphic settings. 40fps is smooth enough for me. I hope all games offers 40fps option, its the best of both worlds

Apparently the quality mode (30FPS) is giving me motion sickness. Going with performance mode (60FPS) seems to elevate it.

As someone who played beth games since 2008, you dont play these games you mod these game and spend more time modding than playing.
I play on 4K 60 mode, and I'm happy with the results. Amazing game, just made a little bit better :-)

1070, 8700k, 32GB 1080p 60 with some significant dips back in the day.
