This hotel supposedly has the most ghosts in the country, so surely I should see some, right? This is my last video of September now and it’s been my best month in the 12 years of making videos, thank you so much - let’s end it STRONG!
Absolutely no idea how I've never seen your channel before, but I love the content and how it's just you recording what you're doing. Over the past week I've watched a few videos of yours, think I'll have seen all of these by the end of the week and I'll definitely be watching for as long as you're making videos. Thanks for all the great content man
That spoon as you referred to was used as a heater to heat the beds back in the Victorian era and the curtains above the bed acted as dust covers, also used in the Victorian era, you made me laugh in this video so much! Plus York is literally an hour away from me, it's a beautiful town.
This is why I got hooked on this channel, it's an honest experience, not exaggerated, just a dude being normal. Keep it up, I think your energy is also gonna catch up with an older audience as myself because we get to see the things you are up to, without the whole "WHAT'S UP GUYS? *explosion sound in the background*"
My 1st. View of your work; clearly narrated and good fun to watch alsoaswellastoo! When I woz able to view the city, I loved being in the middle of the gaff, my then wife and our two spaniels detected so much unexplained doo-dah, it's great tourist town. VBW x
That long spoon like thing is a Victorian bedwarmer. People used to fill it with hot coal and stick it under the blanket for a while before going to bed, to make the bed warm. Similar to a modern hot water bottle but probably a lot warmer. The bloke in the picture is King Edward VII. He was a notorious womanizer and there is a suspicion he might have been Jack the Ripper. Given the things he did, I can well believe that... that would also explain why the police "never found out who Jack the Ripper was". Of course there are no ghosts in the hotel you were staying in... that's just the usual tourist trap. A lot of pubs and hotels claim to be haunted to justify charging far more than they should, given what they provide. They make up the backstories themselves. Great job if you can get it...
Speaks volumes about this country that sharing a room with a guy called One-Eyed Jack was actually less scary than the previous accomodation experiences you've had. Old Jack was a bit of a softie really compared to chavs in balacavas trying to burn down your cabin.
Really glad I found your channel recently, absolutely mint content mate - Your dry sense of humour is funny as. Keep up at this pace and you'll be at 100k in no time.
Still pumping out top quality and consistent content for me to enjoy my dinner to. Never change Ed 😍 also when I die I know where to go for free biscoff
I genuinely thought that the radiator's water was somebody peeing in the next room for a second 😆 Nice video Ed. Recently found your channel and been enjoying the chill vibe you bring with it just being you vlogging and making the odd funny comment here and there, Keep it up man 😁
Sat here slightly intoxicated catching up on some of your old content, chuckling away getting a funny look from the girlfriend and the dogs probably thinking why the f I picked them. Keep up the the great work lad from a soft southerner. Ps if your ever down in the rusty sheriffs badge badge part of Kent (Thanet/margate) give me a shout 👍🏼. Ade @disfamily
watched justed years ago after jackmate shouted you out and wondered why you never were more popular, good to see you have reinvented the channel and finally getting recognition!
There is so much they could do with that place. They should leave little clues to those stories you found about the place, have someone walk up and down the corridor in the small hours a few times, maybe get them to dress up as one of those characters you read about. Imagine hearing footsteps just going back and forth outside your door in the middle of the night. Then anyone brave enough to open their door and have a look see some man or young boy dressed in 16th (or 17th) century clothes just wandering about. Now that alone would scare the shit out of you.
I stayed in a haunted hotel in York and had to come home a day early as i was so scared, there would be tapping and when i asked it to stop it would but then start a few minutes later and i always felt i was being watched, staying alone didn't help though I'd love to go back.
Hey Ed, I recently discovered your channel. Your videos are so down to earth, funny and extremely entertaining. Thank you for the content and i hope the channel grows. Keep up the good work!
Just found your vids and been bing watching a few loved the camping vid and not seen a bad one yet! Just one question how do u not have millions of subs yet very entertaining and real! Can’t say I’ve enjoyed your vids enough thank you!
the thing you said looks like a big spoon next to the fire is a bed warmer, back in the day you heated water in it then either kept it at the foot of your bed or rubbed it under the duvet on the sheet to have a warm bed
You should do an overnight ghost hunt! You use Ouija boards, spirit machines and group activities from 9pm usually until 3am in a haunted location in the dark
Ok so the 2nd roof on the bed was actually to stop spiders jumping down from the ceiling in the early times because y'know...medieval houses were a bit crap so if you were quite posh you'd have "bed roofs"
It was actually due to houses having a thatched roof so all sorts of insects and mice would make their houses in the thatch and the bed cover would stop them dropping onto the bed. We also have the saying "it's raining cats and dogs" from thatched roofs because cats would hunt mice in the thatch and they would get washed off the roof in heavy rain.
You need to come to Edinburgh for proper ghost tours. I mean, we've even got a ghost bus to save you the walking... And if you get a tour that takes in the South Bridge Vaults,l you might well get the willies! Or visit Mary Kings Close - it's literally a medieval street that got buried and forgotten about when they were building the Council Chambers, more than 200 years ago, that was rediscovered behind a heavy door found behind various furniture in a store room at sub-sub-basement level, during the 1960s... Or just pick a cemetery and take a wander round after dark - that's what most of the ghost walks do anyway.
Ed, that guy in the uber eats video was totally right - your channel will pop off eventually! I remember one of your videos hitting the algorithm on my recommended page and I have been here since, you have some quality content for someone with the subcount that you do. Keep up the great work!
That big brass spoon is a Victorian bed warmer. You'd heat a brick or stone on the edge of your fire place, put it inside the spoon and then put that in your bed on a cold night...Come to think of it, they used to use lit candles on Christmas trees too. Victorians really didn't give two fucks about fire safety!
This hotel supposedly has the most ghosts in the country, so surely I should see some, right? This is my last video of September now and it’s been my best month in the 12 years of making videos, thank you so much - let’s end it STRONG!

6:00 The look of legitimate concern is amazing 😂
Amazing video as usual, keep up the great work Ed!

To be honest ghosts aren't real. Someone died where I've slept for the past 17 years and nothing has happened 😂
the thing you said looks like a big spoon next to the fire is a bed warmer, back in the day you heated water in it then either kept it at the foot of your bed or rubbed it under the duvet on the sheet to have a warm bed

Brilliant video Ed. Maybe Scooby Doo could have helped solve the mystery of the wardrobe?
hahahaha brilliant video has usual ED nothing spooky about it really lol but well enjoyed it and the history lesson.
I love these videos 😅
That “giant spoon” may be a chestnut roaster. As in the thing you use to roast chestnuts over open fires. Someone would have to confirm, though.
It's a bed warmer, they used to put hot coals from the fire in it then put it in the bed to warm it. I wonder how many fires they started. 🔥🔥🔥
@@user-hb7ps1gv9x Bed warmer! Yes! Nice! Man, those are a DIFFERENT kind of chestnuts to roast, I suppose!
Almost at 15k now bro was only the other week we was trying to get 10k. Much love brother
Before I pressed play I knew this would be the Golden Fleece in York lol, great little hotel but not cheap!
Sir stop playing with the emergency cord. 😂😂😂👍

So funny how our natural instinct is to check for ghosts under the bed 😂. Also just being in an uneven house can really mess with your head.
That's true, it makes me feel dizzy when the floor is uneven.
love all your vids.youre gunna be big i reckon/

Did the York ghost tour twice in 90s... depends on the guy doing it. Had some jump-scares but it's all in the delivery

Haha thank you, appreciate you being here a while now and supporting!
The only reason I can think of for the amount of mirrors in a "haunted" place is mirrors are supposed to be portals for ghosts to come through
Speaking of hauntings, I for one greatly appreciate the opportunity to see the reincarnation of David Brent.
You’re like an oddly satisfying mix of him and Alan Partridge.
It's a bed warmer!! Put hot coals in it and warm your bed. Kx
