    if this song is called boring by anyone, then that person just doesn't understand what a modern-day classic this song is, from the very first note the last, it is simply sublime, and showcases how less can sometimes be more, Mark Knopfler makes a guitar literally sing like no other can, it's close to 40 years old now and it still moves me everytime I hear it, thanks for your reaction vid Rebeka

    I barely remember back in the sixties when the audience was silent because they were actually listening to the music. We sat quietly in order to become more absorbed in the music and allow the musicians to create more subtle passages that could not be heard if everyone was screaming like banshees.
    this song especially deserves some silence

    This is one of those songs... If I know it's coming I can deal with it, but if it starts playing out of the blue... 😭 It was played twice- the original and an instrumental version- on my brothers funeral 10 years ago. Last year I was listening to the "yearly playlist" on spotify while working. I hadn't checked out the songs, just played it. And this one came on, and I started crying my eyes out, with no way of getting away from my work station. A really gem of a song from their library of artworks.

    It was my understanding (having read several of Mark's interviews) that he wrote this not only for the British troops killed in the Falkland Islands war in 1982 but also the futility of war anywhere. However it must also be said that Britain was given no option but to fight as Argentina attacked against the wishes of the Islanders.

    • @AnneDowson-vp8lg
      @AnneDowson-vp8lg 7 месяцев назад +2

      I'm glad you mentioned the Islanders. Their experience tends to get lost amongst all the destruction. They had been living there for 200 years. I remember the Falklands conflict. The son of one of my work colleagues was a Chief Petty Officer on board the British ship The Antelope when it was hit by an Exocet missile. A man waiting outside his office door to speak to him, was killed, but Robert was not in his office, and escaped. The person who said we must find a better way of resolving national disputes is right. But we can't even seem to resolve conflict locally or personally. But we must hold onto hope. Praying if you believe, helps with that, and so does good music, like this song. God bless Mark Knopfler.

It was so popular back then but this song as the title track didn't get the kudos it deserved with listeners in my opinion, it was more about Money For Nothin and Walk of Life. The last one was "Lucille" in the hands of the late great BB King who could get those notes out of a guitar and let the instrument sing ! Enjoy this young lady you watching a living legend. Decepcionante Brothes in arms. Gracias por tu reacción.

And i saw many many others...But Dire Straits in one and only. Btw, in my humble opinion, the greatest version of this masterpiece is from "On the night" concert, Live in London. What a keyboard parts of Alan Clark.......My God...Tide of melancholy and beauty...Makes me melting and cry every time. If you love Dire Straits, than you have very sophisticated taste and you know very well what real music is. Greets from one sad, broken and lonely war veteran from CROATIA. Love you all ..💓💔💔💕💓❤💔.

    I grew up with his music. Please listen to other conerts as well. His songs were never the same on every concert. Also listen to his Private Investigations and other songs. Pure brilliance.

    Thank you. I was lucky and saw them live many years ago. When the performed brothers in arms there was a spirit moving through the 60000 perplex around me that I still feel after all these years...incredible

    One of! If not thee premier guitarist of our time. Knophler arranged it in 82 at the outbreak of the Falklands war but it was released in 85, I believe. Correct me if I’m wrong. But very poinient in todays world.

    While I agree with your Dad, many vocals are not strong, but, the messages contained within are so on point. A great example is "Industrial Disease" the messages in that song are still very relevant today - 40 years later.
    love your reactions, keep up the good work!

    "Hope it won't get boring?"
    You really don't know Dire Straits at all.
    One of the greatest UK rock bands certainly one of the greatest love performance bands of our time,with arguably the best song writer in recent years and the best blues , rock finger picking guitarist of our era.
