But staying in a country for long time and paying taxes does NOT make you a citizen automatically , if you did NOT apply for citizenship in any country. I am a Ghanaian saying this. HOW ON EARTH HE DID NOT APPLY FOR CITIZENSHIP WHEN HE WAS MARRIED TO AN ENGLISH LADY ? THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST PRIORITY. I HAVE LIVE IN EUROPE FOR 34 YEARS, AND I GO HOME EVERY 2 YEARS, I HAVE NOT MISSED NOT EVEN ONCE. WHEN I CAME, MY FIRST PRIORITY WAS TO GET CITIZENSHIP BEFORE EVEN SENDING MONEY HOME TO BUILD. I GOT MY EU PASS EXACTLY IN MY THIRD YEAR. IT WAS EASY BY THEN. I DO BUSINESS BETWEEN GH. AND EU FREELY. THIS CASE BUGGLES MY MIND HOW HE DID NOT CARE TO APPLY WHEN HE WAS MARRIED TO ENGLISH LADIES TWICE. HE HAS HIMSELF TO BLAME. THAT IS THE DUMBEST STORY I HAVE EVER HEARD.
Did he ever formally apply for citizenship, especially if he was not born in the Uk.

He took the British citizenship for granted. He should have applied for citizenship for long time ago. He has children born in England too. British citizenship is one most powerful passports in the world. I think the British home affairs have done a great job. It is good they refused him. This is the dumbest immigration story I have ever heard.
