Freni is the best Butterfly, I think.

The most beautyfull love duet I know. And the performance: great Mirella Freni and very good Placido Domingo. Only very good, beacuse I like better lighter tenors, singing Pinkerton's role, ie.Richard Troxell.
But as an actor Domingo is great, he is one of the best perfomers between opera singers of XX century,

While I'm not a big fan of this opera itself, the music is beautiful, and this scene is so very moving. I see they had Domingo hold a hundred pounds on his chest while singing, again. (I hope this was lip-synched because he holds Freni a lot longer than he held Brooks or Stratas in La Traviata.) I've heard him say he was not fond of this character because of how he mistreats Cio-Cio San, and I can't disagree. Same thing with the Duke of Mantua. But a role is a role and he did try to infuse Pinkerton with some gentleness. Their voices were splendid together, weren't they? Bravi.
