Wearing a REAL zoot suit (not the toned down Hollywood version), his hair 'fried, dyed and laid to the side'. A voice that is utterly unmistakable and SO full of sass and bad-ass. He is THE Cab to Uptown.
poetcomic1 Just wondering, did the R&R hall induct him?
+poetcomic1 It's the most fabulous zoot suit I've ever seen.
Very few could carry it off but it looks natural to him even the long watch chain.
hahaha...you said it with style that made me smile..you said it with humour that made the night shimmer 😀
nitropost
If I had the oppertunity to go to the past once, I would love to go to a Cab Calloway concert
Be sure to bring plenty of green with you then. If we take as an example (The Man From Harlem ~ca. 1933), that Drinks cost Six bits a throw. (A Bit being a Quarter Dollar) then Six of them would be exactly a Buck-Fifty. Or about Twenty-Six Dollars in today change.
@@Ichijoe2112 My mum used to go to such nightclubs in Berlin in the 50s. She said there would be four of them at a table sharing one bottle all evening. But they were there.. that was the main thing.
Me too.
SAMEEEEE
You are so absolutely right!!!
The man the word swag was invented for.
Madd Swag!!
Swag, style, flair, panache. Whatever you wanna call it, this man embodied it.
Swag is for fucking retards
@@invaderdibb2880 wow no chill! HAHA
Amen !!! The man was all that and so much more~ He was jazz
Thank you black folks of America, you’ve given the world the gift of the greatest musics of the last century.
And the worst of this century...
And that folks is what you call BAD ASS music... WHAT a performance.
I met him at Belmont racetrack in the late 80's. He loved the horses. He was older then but he still had that twinkle in his eye. Its strange that I remember that
Кеб сам похож на какого-то горячего скакуна.
Dude was smooth as SILK. I'd give anything to have seen him in this time period. Gotta get back to work on my time portal, I guess.
Same man same. Him, Miss Billie, and a lot more.
Let me know when you get it working...Would like to go back in time and meet my father's father, MLK, and Big J,JESUS!
I miss the people from that era. I was born in 1957 and they were all still alive when I was a kid.😢
My grandmother said he was the best. And the band was incredible!
Cab in a Zoot suit singing the blues....Doesn't get any better then that. Smooth like you'll never see again. Incredibly talented Man, incredibly talented Band. Sadly, we will never see it again.
I remember watching this when I was about 12 years old in the early 80s and thinking this was the flyest sh*t I had ever seen. Opinion stands today.
If You know someone that's feels unhappy tell them to watch Cab, He can make anyone feel good, Dude was a force of nature.
That is the truth.
Being a Geechee boy from Charleston I find this so cool 😎
Cab Calloway definitely invented swag
I love Cab Calloway--his music, his style, his happiness, his irresistable swagger. This is my favorite of his peformances.
His expressions and his range!! Splendid!!
He was such a bad ass in his zoot suit!!! I LOVE Cab Calloway!!!!!
The dancing scene/costumes in The Mask (1994) has to be inspired by this.
Definitely is. As well as Tom & Jerry.
So many things/characters have been inspired by Cab and his amazing dance moves ❤️😂
And Oogie Boogie
watching this man perform makes me unbelievably happy in a way i can't describe :,)
Thank goodness that RUclips has the entire Cab Calloway repertoire
What a Showman!!
Dat Zoot Suit. Love Cab.
A true story about Mr. Calloway is that he was so professional and so serious about the image and quality of his performance, that if a band member showed up the day of a performance for rehearsals with a hole in their dress shirt, he'd say "Man, what is this?" and would stick his finger in the hole and pull the shirt till it tore right up. Then he'd tell the guy to go out and get a decent shirt to wear.
Damn that's interesting ash
the great cab calloway, there will never be another like him! rip cab
This makes you realize that today's music doesn't put a smile on your face. So many tunes from the 30's..40's thru the 80's that lifted the spirit & lightened the soul. Alas, no more.
Tough times create tough but beautiful souls. Easy times create weak souls. Life has been so easy the past 30 years that true artists are slim in numbers.
How very true, Swing Jazz just has so much joy in it, you just can not, not smile.
What do u mean WAP shol put a smile on my face.
@@kenwilliamsvoice Yep, and modern music “artists” have it way too easy.
Mass produced garbage is all we have these days.
That's a beautiful man.
What ya'll know about the Zoot Suit ? He swag the hell out of it !
nuffflavor And that suit, bow tie and the hat were all a crispy canary yellow
My dad knew him during The Harlem Renaissance of the 30's. I met him over 30 years ago.still touring. Reminiscing fondly about rent parties and the Cotton Club . Priceless. Looks like my dad whose HAIR wax WAS not FRIED, just straight.
Thea Najafi my Uncle
The coolest guy in history
0:04...me when I enter at a party I was not invited to.
Oooh he's killing those notes!
He hit the stage like a TRUE BOSS
Can't help but be uplifted watching this :)
LOL! Reminds me of that Tom & Jerry cartoon episode..."The Zoot Cat"...they must have been influenced by CC's hep cat style!
in some of the old Betty Boop Cartoons they have his music and his voice come out of the character (not Betty)in the cartoon ,theres one where the caracter dancing was Rotoscoped from Cab Dancing ...
The zoot suit originally was worn by Mexicans
@@melaniedelatorre1291 no it wasn't. Mexicans got inspiration from jazz singers and brothas from Harlem new York were rocking Zoot suits in the late 30s.,early 40s
If you look closely on Cab's right, by the rhythm section, the first tenor sax player is my favorite since childhood, Illinois Jacquet. He did play a solo on one number in Stormy Weather, I believe, but not on this number, nor the one with the Nicholas Brothers. What a band Cab had ... Illinois Jacquet, Benny Carter, Slam Stewart, Zutty Singleton ....

This man was electric, future performers take notes.
How I wish my mother was alive to see these performers she loved, captured for all time on video.RIP Augustine Hall 1925-2005.
I was born waaaay too late. I missed all this music live. How I would love to be at those tables, listening to this.
I keep watching the introduction of Cab coming from behind the curtain over and over. The first two 51 seconds. His economy of space with his dancing and the shot selection with the music is Hypnotic.
This is a rock star performance before rock and roll.
Well Rock, and Roll was the Phoenix that rose out of the ashes of the Big Band Swing era.
I showed this to performers with stage fright after hypnotizing them with a post hypnotic suggestion. Any time they get nervous call on Cab and strut across that stage.
SUCH showmanship... I am entertained... God bless him and his kind.
My granny (RIP) told me her brother (RIP) had a zoot suit way back when and every time i see this I cant help but see him strutting and looking clean and driving his Buick.
Cab Calloway had a unique style that nobody has matched since. He established the "cool style". Yeah, Baby.
talent! he was awesome!!
that Zoot Suit fam!!👌👌💖
Go Darling, go. This movie made all the difference in movies when we were kids. It was old to us even then but we knew this was the classic, the real deal that ain't never going out of style. Great performances by ALL.
-The original king of the MC'S & some of the best early big band music around!
WAYYY DOWN IN CHARLESTON LIVES OL GEECHY JOEEEE🗣️🗣️🔥🔥‼️
Was ahead of his time
what makes American Music great...soul,
Thank God for this amazing movie. The performers captured are some of the best of the century.
Absolutely brilliant! One of my all-time favorite videos on RUclips.
This is turning 80 years old this year, 80 years of greatness
Has there ever been a cool cat quite this frosty? If so, hep me to their square handle, that I might more fully dig the jive.
My father loved him some Cab Callaway.
Cab was amazing! Hands down....
one of my all time favorite movies! SO much talent packed into one film.
What a voice!
Man what an entrance
This was real entertainment! The crap we have today ain't worth a damn!
I remember my dad telling me he used to wear a zoot suit like Cab Calloway.
I can only say incomparable!! Kinda makes todays entertainment appear duller, less enthusiastic even with all the special effects!! ;)
boomerang905 : Seriously. So much energy. Closer to the source: most stuff today is recycled electronic background music.
ok boomer(ang905)
No need to mince words or cut the analysis too thin--I LOVE this guy!!!Singin’! Dancin’! Just Bein’ the immortal Cab! NOBODY like’im-or better!
J'adore cette vidéo avec Cab Calloway et son orchestre ...
2:19 My god, this is perfect!
Hello hoovy tube! I see you also like this type of music aswell! Nice to know one sfm animator I look up to is also into this stuff too!
Wasn't expecting this legend to be watching music by another. Makes me happy to know other people in general like Cab's music

Dec.25th: Happy birthday Jazz-Blues-Swing Singer-Bandleader Cabell "Cab" Calloway III (1907-1994) Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame, National Medal of Arts. Thank you and God bless. RIP Legend. Thanks for the upload, bessjazz. Blessings

That Cab Calloway was a WILD MAN!!!
My grandmother used to go see him and his band when he played the nightclubs here in Chicago. She said there was nobody (and no band) that could top him.
Great old stuff. My Dad was borne in 1919 I was in 1968.I grew up with black and white movies and T.V. but that Zoot sure makes me see Canary yellow. I have a feeling the man loved bright colors.I wish I knew what color it was.
My mom adored Cab Calloway . Use to go see him all the time in NY from Jersey
His dancing was epic but nobody talks about his delivery😮. The man can sing
Wow!!!!! that was fun!!!!!!!!!
2:18 This is what 'rocks it' is about
Oh to go back in time and have a stage side table and several Manhattans to loosen me up, and watching these master performers doing what they do best.
I wouldve loved to watch him perform 🥰
No one else could pull off a zoot suit like Cab. The man invented smooth. Love the band and singing. Bp knew back in the day that was not a co nk, it was his own hair, I mean his people were talented tenth/paperbag folks after all. I could only shake my head reading comments from fam here.
😂😂, someone else here has class.
I'm here for the educational reasons, learning the music the my grandparents must have listened to.
Not mention music for my comic book videos I'm putting together. 💙💯👍
Cab Calloway was one cool cat
Long before I was born - but I do love it so. I dance/teach dance and his music is always in my classes
What a Phenom!
Heppest of the hep cats, Cab had style and talent from toe to top hat.
Cab was the man and that band is smoking.
i wish cab was my primary school teacher.
if yt wants black history, this is a gold mine
And, yet when was the last time you ever heard anything about Black Music in a historical context?
During the cultural revolution of the 1960's young blacks were taught by the Communists to eschew this high level art, rather than taking it up and passing it down to their children. It's similar to how Globalists are now busy trying to destroy culture & erase or rewrite history, so it'll be easier for them to control the masses.
How cool was he - to damn cool and he made it look so good like we do always
Good lord, look at that zoot suit! That's the real thing. That style didn't last for long. Cab Calloway was a class act all the way around, unlike the "stars" we've got nowadays, most of whom can't even sing.
now that"s style !!!!!!!!!!!
Now THAT'S a great zuit suit! 💋
Un délice d'entendre et voir Cab !! Créatif, simple, drôle et talentueux !! Love him !!!
i absolutely adore that hat
I was Lucky enough to see Cab Callaway One New Year’s Eve at the Limelight in New York He was still absolutely incredible.!!!
You could see him hanging around the hotels around too, imagine getting in an elevator and you look at cab, and be like hey I know you! And that recognizable smile shows up
A fantastic performer!
Man Cab Calloway was a cool kat I dig'em man
A Baltimore legend.
The Original Pimp.
So fucking slick!
So f'n cool 😎✌
Красота во всем. Супер. Благодарю.
Sobering to think that, 40-odd years later, Kid Creole revived that style of clothing . . .
THANK YOU FOR SHARING
I have appreciated Cab Calloway for a long time, first seeing him in The Blues Brothers. But this video showcases his voice in a way I haven't heard before. Wow. Just, wow.
Outstanding historical extraordinary archive ever ! Merci beaucoup from Paris France. Emmanuel
Le meilleur!...Monsieur Cab Calloway!
