Mitchell Sink excels as PIPPIN. Morning Glow is nothing short of stunning. He totally 'sings the text', and melts my heart. Broadway ready. I watch this production every couple of weeks. It makes me smile.

I know I posted this somewhere else, but, I need it here too. Before COVID, I was involved in a local community theater production of "PIPPIN". We had finished rehearsals...costumes were fitted and ready...sets were done, music was learned as was blocking, and we were 48 hours from opening...then the COVID door slammed shut and we were history BEFORE we could become history. Seeing Summit's production makes me want to stand and cheer as if I were in the front row. THANK YOU TO THE ENTIRE CAST AND CREW!!!

I was one of the Leading Players in the Fosse original touring company and later went on to do the dinner theatre company of the show. I directed and restaged a full Fosse production for Queens Borough Community College many years ago. I have recently been contemplating on restaging the original Fosse version of Pippin and booking it as a cruise ship package. I would cast the young man playing Pippin in this production in a heartbeat. Loved his voice and he looks the part. The chorus held their own vocally, but I would NEVER have a female Leading Player nor would I do that horrible circus version that was recently on Broadway. Any of us who ever did Fosse's version absolutely hated the remake.

I agree, this "Circus Production" is lacking. This song in particular annoys me a lot. The pacing is slow and the fella who did it on Broadway (Matthew James Thomas) really loved to back phrase to the point where I wanted to scream. I also felt there was a lot of unnecessary riffing, at least in my opinion. I also find the dead body rising trick to be not necessary at this moment. And, I do think the "Leading Player" should be a man, there is a quality that men do have when playing this type of character, and it really isn't a positive quality in real life. Not that it doesn't work, but it lacks a this quality I'm talking about. I do think "Morning Glow" should be the end of Act 1 but not the way it's executed here. To the youngsters in this video, this isn't about you, you did a great job, my problems are with this version of "Pippin". It's all just my opinions, take it with a grain of salt.

I agree with the Mitchell Sink casting as Pippin. I don't agree with your reluctance to accept Brianna as the Leading Player. I loved Ben Vereen of course but Brianna nails it. Like you. I hasted the "circus" revival. These kids achieved a Broadway standard performance. All of their productions are remarkable.

@@waynegarton8672 - While I agree that Brianna did an admirable job in the performance, she does not fall in line with the Fosse intent of Leading Player being Pippin's sub conscience - that dark side of his thinking and performing his way through his thoughts and life as he sees it. She, along with the women who have played it on Broadway in this, in my opinion, Horrible rendition of Pippin have all played it safe in just performing the songs and dance numbers while failing to be that inner Pippin. When I played the role in the touring company, this is how Bob explained who he saw Leading Player as. It is left up to the individual cast members playing this role to interpret that and bring it to life as they best see fit. Ben had his own unique way of playing it and it shows most during the closing number. Don't forget that the original intent of the players was to be a figment of Pippin's imagination come to life to play the real people in his life in a theatrical presentation because as Shakespeare told us, "All the World is a stage". It is how Fosse saw his life, as one big performance. It's most evident in his direction of All That Jazz.

Pippin is a very gifted performer. The ensemble sounds wonderful. I do wish however that high schools and community theaters would stop trying to copy the deeply flawed revival of Pippin. The original is so much better. This song in particular is utterly ruined by stopping it at the very climax. Fosse knew what he was doing.
