Awesome y'all mentioning Hutchinson Raceway. It was always a packed house and great racing when NCRA vs MLRA came to Hutchinson. Some awesome racing. Watched them battle here in Hutchinson, Wichita, and Belleville! And if I remember right MLRA put the races on at Lakeside in Kansas city also.

MLRA was the first modified series in the area that I can remember as well. Even though it did not last long from what I recall. Because I went to a MLRA modified series race at Caney Kansas in 1995 if I remember correctly

im surprised and shocked that when u mentioned chassis at the time, that any design of the Howe chassis at the time wasnt mentioned since Howe was out of iowa, which is close to this area.i figured they would have been pretty popular around here. i get Shaw since they are close as well. i helped justin wells a few times 'just because' at joplin, monett, etc. after i moved here in around 2002/2003 when he was still running the James Ince chassis. he was damn bad fast.

The best MLRA race that I ever saw was Terry Phillips and Freddy Smith racing at Joplin 66 Raceway for the lead for the 96 lap feature in or around 1995 or 96!

😂 Looks like this podcast interview would be better done inside where it was warm!

Freddy Smith was using Draime Racing Engines when he was driving the Bazooka Bass tube and GVS 00 car with the big blue stacker hauler.
