    There is only one reason this exists: they limited their ability to reprint Collector Edition packs due to putting Serialized cards in the boxes so they had to find a way to reprint them without the serialized cards. They need to max their profits to "save" Hasbro and make their numbers for the year and this set is their best chance to do so. But that means they need to print more.

      I hear you. This set appears to have high print runs and high demand. How about collector boxes to $1,000 😂😂😂 most folks just love LOTR stuff and perfect mash up with mtg. I’m still not buying Hasbro stock.

      @rickycr3379 they would have put all the serialized cards in the initial Collector's Edition print run. They can't advertise that they have "serialized cards included" if they don't have any to add... so they can't just reprint the original Collector Boxes. But they CAN... make a completely new Collector's Edition set. (Special Edition Collector Packs!) They could create NEW serialized cards for this set but they can't be the original Sol Rings from the original set.

    My big issue is that all printing and distributing all of these different product SKEWS feels intentionally confusing and deceptive in order to obscure the actual value that customers get when they buy a MtG product, especially when the game is also targeted at children 13+ and those kids brains aren't fully developed to understand the weight of financial decisions and value of the products they consume. This isn't really an issue with the Special Edition in particular as much as it is Wizards/Hasbro printing more and more versions of booster packs with more and more artificially inflated manufactured perceived value being placed on them.

      These are some excellent points. And I am one to criticize Wizards on a regular basis. I frankly stopped paying attention and buying from them after Brothers War. It’s just too much. I hope they calm down and show some respect for players and collectors. Thanks for commenting!

      @@MoneyVikings This is exactly my point. Where (especially average kids) people think that the set is not for them. It feels bad feeling left out and obviously not good for the game of mtg where it conditions kids for its gaming, sentimental, and collectible value

      @@gnlsjf Well said. The prices across the board have felt outrageous to me starting at double masters 22, then there was the whole Magic 30 debacle. But people keep buying somehow so Wizards keeps printing.

    Can I just say that I hate that it's referred to as a CCG now as opposed to a TCG?
    It's a small change, I admit, but one that inherently "adds value" to the product - which is meant to be first, and foremost, a card *game*
    It's basically stocks of another kind these days and players are getting priced out (sealed - not necessarily singles).

    • @MoneyVikings
      @MoneyVikings  Год назад +1

      I agree. Something strange happened over the last couple years as these games became talked about like stocks. They are not stocks. It’s not an ownership stake in a companies profits. To me personally it’s like collecting art. But I enjoy the game play and hanging with like minded folks, exercising my mind, etc. we should all be careful about this “collectible” aspect. For me collectibles is a hobby and I only buy stuff I genuinely enjoy as a kind of work of art. I’m happy if I can pay for my hobby over the years but do not expect to retire off “collectibles”. Thanks for commenting and sharing this view.

    Great points about this particular product. I hope it features some interesting artwork from the classic Hilderbrandt brothers from the 1970's. Doesn't really seem like a magic product, more like a collection of beautiful art cards.

  • @BoxOfFear

    I don’t Ike the showcase scroll frame, the muted colors in the artwork aren’t visually appealing to me personally.
    I don’t like the weird 70’s art cards either. They’re tricky to read and play with.
    Hildebrandt artwork is absolutely fantastic. I would love to own most all of those cards. But, those alone can’t justify the entire booster pack. Fortunately, singles are available for sale.

    I will get one of them for my complete sealed collector booster box collection. I bought 2 of the original LOTR ones because I love LOTR. I have at least one sealed box of every release in this format of 12-pack collector boxes (the first one is Throne of Eldraine).

    Not all about misunderstanding the product at all. It's the fact that there's two collector product. It's the fact that they are reprinting the same cards albeit different art. Sure, investor collectors would love this. Ordered a case of this special collector and the regular collector and the scene cards. But let's not forget the average kids are collectors, too. Every normal print cards are collectibles, too. With with so much supply (2-4 variants of a single card), what happens to the regular cards those kids have? The collectability value of their normal card disintegrates.

    • @MoneyVikings
      @MoneyVikings  Год назад

      Great perspective and thank you for commenting. I wonder if the average kid is thinking about any of this as a collectible/investment. My first introduction to card collecting were garbage pail kids (I know I’m getting old) and I just collected them because I liked them and thought they were cool. I enjoyed the joy of opening wax packs and laughing with my friends. It wasn’t until 30 years later I realized they had market antique value. Anyway, thanks for commenting, as both a player, collector and “investor” I see what your saying. I do think this LOTR set is its own beast based on how billions of people love the lore and Tolkien.

    • @gnlsjf

      @@MoneyVikings aren't every average kids think that way? Maybe not in the definition of investing like we understand as adult but definitely at least a kid collecting as a collectible with value. When I was younger, I bring my binder and trade with other kids, according to value. We know early on our mtg life that there is value.
      "It wasn’t until 30 years later I realized they had market antique value."
      Imagine that for the newer release cards where there are 3-4-5 variants of the same card for the first set it gets printed. And then reprinted 2-3-4 times over in a couple more years after. Take a look at the Pioneer sealed boxes and singles. They're going nowhere but down.
      And then now, the collector edition gets reprinted in just four months

    • @gnlsjf
      @gnlsjf Год назад +1

      Imagine when these kids grow up in 10-20 years. When they get their money, they'll want and buy these collector edition cards and not the regular cards thinking they grew up not experiencing these more beautiful cards and now they get their chance. Yes, collectors edition aren't for everyone. But again, every mtg player are collectors, too. Less demand to the regular cards == less collectible value
