Not only drainage, but elevation can make a huge difference. My dad told me of a very good friend of his; her father had bought a plot of land in New Jersey decades ago, and built a house. He'd very carefully selected that specific plot over all the others available. When Hurricane Sandy flattened and flooded NJ, her house (after her father had passed, she'd inherited it) was the only one on the block that wasn't flooded; why? Because the patch of land the house sat on was _one foot higher_ than all the rest; they had flooded basements and first floors, and she was cozy and dry, snug as a bug, because her father had been a very smart cookie~

That reminds me of Gold Shaw Farm was talking about in a recent video. He said so many people buy a plot of long and can't wait to break ground on big ideas. He sat on the land for a whole year to see how the seasons and rain affected the land. He does get a big snow run off pool at the lowest point, but he knew where it would be and planned around it.

Just a suggestion: use a leaf blower to blow the water in the direction you need instead of water. It is just as efficient and does not contribute to the problem of flooding.

My family did think about it. But, the village has repaved the road out in front so many times and increasing its height, that rainwater now goes over the curb, into the yard, and for really bad rains, into the cellar. :(

@@Ddrhl Is there any way to approach the village for a remedy? I know my home village (in Michigan) was horrible about clearing out a creek (fallen trees, overgrowth of vines/weeds,) even though it was supposed to be paid for as part of village taxes, but *eventually* after a really bad flood and actual threats of multiple lawsuits, the village finally got the work done. Are there neighbors also having the same problem, that your family can get with, to approach the village? I will hope for the best for y'all.

In Germany property owners have to pay a "rain water drain tax". Any space that is not earth, and that includes roofs, is taxed, as the water flows into the council drains. So quite a few people have torn up their paved parking spaces again. My sister lives on a farm, and they have an ancient cobbled yard, so the water can drain away easily between the stones, but the council wanted to charge them, and they had a long dispute. My brother in law dug a new drainage which leads to a ditch along their land, which was a compromise.

Water companies in the UK charge for surface and roof drainage, it's a fixed charge though. It is possible to avoid paying this charge if there are no sewage connected drains for surface or roof water.

@@beknic8872 - In Ventura, CA, USA, the city (did or tried to) imposed a "View" tax on people that had nice views from their property! There are some 1M+ homes that set on canals with boat docks. They were up in arms about it, not sure how it turned out. But really. Your already pay over the homes value for the view + annual taxes that go up every year. This tax was on top of that!!!!

Hello Sid, I wanted to say this already on the last video: have you thought about using a weed wire-cutter machine/trimmer to trim the grass precisely at the border of the pavement? (Spinning vertically)
You could also use a square flat-headed shovel to quickly remove patches of grass on pavement. On this video I saw you use your hands. (Hands are precious)
Just saying this in comparison to other videos I recently saw about landscaping.
The other thing is, in my job (software testing) I rarely get a "job well done" and I do not really have "customers". You have no idea how great I felt about you when you said "customer thought I did not charge him enough" or when you show us in your videos that the customer was very happy about your work. Positive feedback is so rewarding and motivating ! So, I am very glad for you and thank you very much for sharing those moments. Cheering for you !

My partner claimed your background music sounded like a porn film and wanted to know what I was watching. He certainly wasn’t expecting it to be power washing.

It's so annoying when there is no proper drainage built in! It's also why it gets so dirty and moldy in the first place. I'd pick up a few of the pavers at the low spot to allow for drainage ...but then again I'd probably get sued for doing so.

A 3d printer part that would fit in your vacuum and sit in the corner while you were cleaning would have helped.

Selling that house will be a nightmare until it's fixed. Have you ever turned down a job because the drainage is so bad that it's not really viable?

Ahhh, they should be hiring a plumber to sort the drainage before employing you.

To bad he didn’t make all of that permeable pavement especially since the slope was going the wrong direction.

Priorities eh, massive hot tub, no drainage. A fool and his money are easily parted, they should really be spending money on the things that matter. But hey, looks fine from my house 🙃

Contractors who lay drives without sorting drainage should be held to account. It’s such bad practice.
