When Anson (Pike) delivered the line "I really love this job" to 'Number One,' from the look on his face it appeared to me that Anson wasn't just acting, he really does enjoy what he's doing.
His whoop of excitement when they go zipping about IN FRIGGING ROCKET JETPACK SPACESUITS was what sold the character for me. Of _course_ anyone, even a SF captain would just be full of joy doing that.
Holy cow Anson Mount is like the perfect Star Trek captain. It’s like he was drawn and carved out and programmed to be exactly what a starship captain should be. Perfect casting! And geez it looks like he got huge for this series. 💪🏻
totally agree, Pike is perfectly cast. wish they could have found someone as magnetic as Shatner for Jim Kirk. This new guy may be a fine actor, but he really falls short in the charisma department and frankly the look. Part of what made Kirk so astounding is that he seems like a man who would have coasted by on his looks and charm, but then you find out how terribly serious he is about duty, how he was a “stack of books with legs” at the academy, how his history contains these traumas like Tarsus IV. Part of the draw is that he is an enigma, part of his allure to Spock is that he is exactly not what we’ve come to expect from the typical male human Captain.
They don't men like they do anymore is the problem.. new Kirk is younger generation Millenials right? A Mount P... Pike is older a generation than the Kirk actor.
Its a seperate costar. "Anson mount And His Hair! With uhura and spock and nurse Chappel and doctor Mbenga but not sulu or chekhov or bones or scotty. I really like the way they have incorporated Both of the early Majel Barrett (-Roddenberry) characters, number One and nurse chappel.
Much like when a new actor takes on The Doctor and says "I'm The Doctor" for the first time, I can only imagine the kind of emotional rush when a new Captain says "Space: the final frontier..." for the first time. I know I get goosebumps watching it for the first time.
@@blackrock1961 I should probably clarify I don't want my hair to go gray from stress. I don't have an issue with gray hair in regards to the color. Some people go gray or bald younger than others and that's fine. It's when gray comes from stress that it's not so desirable.
I'm so glad the Smithsonian museum rounded up all the pieces and scraps from TOS and restored them. There's an incredible display. Some pieces were pulled out of the trash!
This makes me like him so much more. I grew up watching Star Trek and I swear I travel back in time when I watch it now. I love to see the storyline pay homage to the OG series. It’s amazing every time I see it.
One of the best parts of the current generation of Star Trek shows is that a lot of the actors grew up huge fans of Star Trek and you can see the love they have for the franchise whenever they talk about it
I finished the first episode with the same joy and enthusiasm as I did when I finished the pilot episode of TNG back in 1987. I never felt that way for DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, Picard, or Discovery. I don't know what it is, but that Star Trek spirit is alive and well in SNW! I hope this series lasts seven seasons. 🖖🙂
The first episode of Season 2 was incredible!!!!! Easily the best Star Trek in a long time. I can’t wait for the rest of Season 2, and Wil’s following Ready Rooms too!! 😊
There was a line in the first TNG novel where Picard looked at Riker -- after the beard came in -- and thought "It is somehow cosmically unjust that my first officer has more hair on his face than I do on my entire head."
What is Wheaton working on these days? (March 2024). I've seen him in guest roles like "Criminal Minds", TBBT, but what about one project he's fully committed to?
I just found the show and I am in love❤ he is a great Captain surrounded by a great Supporting Cast, the show is by far one of the best they've ever aired
I love how Anson is literally one of the those 'older dude who has embraced his greying hair' studs that a director like Micheal Bay would probably want for the role of fictional US president in one of his movies lol.
My parents had this huge L shaped couch where the cushions on the headrests could flip backwards and that would be tactical behind it and I’d sit in the corner center - that was my bridge as a kid
I first saw cpt Pike on Discovery 2018 (I think?) and I thought. I like this captain. Because I lost my job not long after seeing Captain Pike for the first time? I would have kept my subscription to Amazon. Until earlier this year, and as part of Sky UK, we get Paramount as part of the package, I wouldn't have known about Star Trek Strange New Worlds and get to rewatch Discovery along with my wife. Along with Katy Mulgrews Janeway? Anson's Captain is one of my favourites.
If I ever got to be on Star Trek and had the opportunity to sit in the captain’s chair, you’d be certain that I would probably have the same reaction as Anson Mount did. Either that, or I’d be so giddy, that I wouldn’t be able to stop laughing.
I am impressed by how much Anson looks like the horribly disfigured Captain Pike in the original series. In essence how I think Pike would look before the Talosians gave him the gift of illusion so he could believe that he was whole.
I saw this Ready Room segment. I got emotional watching him. It is definitely going to enhance my viewing experience of this series. Now if they’d just pull the plug on Discovery…
No, Discovery jumped the shark when it had to jump the centuries to sweep its numerous canonical missteps under the rug. Sorry I couldn't fit in any more metaphors lol. It's the writing and acting that make Discovery horrible, not format.
"and really great hair"... Yeah. Discovery was ok... But Anson Mount is perfect as Pike. (and I really like whole cast of SNW. the actors playing Spock and Kirk are excellent too ).
Anson Mount does an amazing Pike if you ask me. SNW truly feels like a modernised, true-to-franchise prequel to TOS. Way better than Discovery. Although my unpopular opinion is that Discovery could have been way worse as well.
I didn’t realize this footage I’d already seen. It was originally in landscape. Why would you deliberately f it up? Yes, I’m the first guy to dislike it. It’s not because of the content.
In order to be a short it has to be a certain dimension and probably also to fit all the video content that you would like to see on the screen it needs to be somewhat distorted
When Anson (Pike) delivered the line "I really love this job" to 'Number One,' from the look on his face it appeared to me that Anson wasn't just acting, he really does enjoy what he's doing.
That's the method acting others should aspire to 😀. That and Benjamin/Jake Sisko actors being close in real life.
Loved that little moment
@@methos-ey9nfwatch the end episode 10, when spock and pike have a heart to heart. Great acting
It's nice to have a fan in that position. He does seem to default to happy.

Let’s appreciate Will Wheaton passion for Trek. Perfect host
Mr. Spock: Captain, where are my pants?
Captain Pike: When in Rome, Mr. Spock.

It’s a deep, meaningful love that has nothing to do with how gorgeous he is.

RIP Jack Kehler. Deep space nine was legit and I still think Jake Sisko and Cirroc motivated me to study Dramatic Arts. Good luck with new show!!
I played Star Trek in a cardboard box with a paper tricorder, stick carved into a phaser, and best of all my paper combadge… I miss the 90s
I used an action figure stand that I taped a safety pin onto for my commbadge!
The Captain we needed. Welcome, Captain Pike.

I feel ya, brother pike! I was really excited when he was cast as pike some five years ago. Here's to five more years of adventures amongst the stars.
You sound like you knew Mount before he got the role of Pike.
What else has he done?
Anson, you’re one of us, you’re one of us!

His line in the musical episode "I'm so proud to be your captain" sums this up imo
I sat in the captain’s chair at the TOS recreation set in Ticonderoga. There are no words in any known language that can describe the experience.
That's how you can tell the real fans right there.
No wonder Anson is so good........ years of experience 😅
Will Wheaton you are looking so fit and healthy. Hope life is good for you (and your family).
