    I love that sad piano music in the background. I've used it too once in a video and I heard it in Gaki No Tsukai of all shows 😅

      It’s pretty right? I wanted something in the background rather than dead silence 😂

      @@RestingPeachFace It is I agree. And thanks, I never heard of the word otome before until I found this channel. They were all the same to me these dating sims lol 😅

      @@RestingPeachFace it took me quite a while to enjoy the storyline but as soon as i saw Okazaki Kei it made me want to know more about the character. Im still on the first route but now im curious about the other characters too. But so far my favorite otome game is Code Realize

    • @RestingPeachFace

      It’s one of those games where the more you play it the more you want to know the rest 😂 Okazaki Kei is my favourite in CxM and Shiraishi is pretty good too! I’ve just finished Code; Realize actually, Victor’s bonus story omg 😍

    Neat video! And apologies in advance for the looong comment!
    I've always used *otome game/otoge* for Japanese-produced VNs with a romance focus and a primarily female audience in mind (though more and more people outside of that audience are getting into them lately, which is glorious), whereas I'd use *dating sim* as a kind of blanket term for all games focusing on romance, be they male- female- or otherwise oriented, Japanese or otherwise (meaning an otoge would be a type of dating sim. A game like "Boyfriend Dungeon" (to take something a little different), for example, would also be classified as "dating sim" (with RPG elements), because the focus on romance is there... or as an "RPG" (with dating sim elements), if the game ends up being mostly dungeon exploration/customization.
    It's just me, though, and I might very well be wrong. Using this classification, I think Brothers Conflict would be an otoge with stat-raising elements... Which is a dumb thing to call it, cause even filling a love meter is technically "stat-raising", but heh >;>
    9:03: Holy moles, YES. You mentioning this point makes me so happy!

    • @RestingPeachFace
      @RestingPeachFace  4 года назад

      No worries 😂
      I see where you’re coming from with your definition of otome games/dating sims! I definitely see “dating sims” as a category that could fit games with any protagonist, while otome the protagonist is female, and bishoujo the protagonist is male. Some people definitely see otome games as a sub genre of dating sims and I’ve heard people call otome games as dating sims. I struggled with that bit as I’m not an expert in that sort of thing - hence why the captions of this is just my thoughts! 😂
      Oooh I really liked amnesia too! When I played it, it did a good job of making me not know who I can believe/not believe. Great game! Ukyo tied all the routes together so well 🥰
      What is periodcube like? I have yet to play that game!
      I like a lot of characters, but my favourite has got to be the ore-sama characters, followed by big puppy dogs 😁 then Yanderes because I love a good shock 🤣
      I may make a video on it at some point, I’ve added it to my list 🙂
      Thank you! It’s a collar stuck onto a jumper 😂 Its one of my favourites 🥰

      @@RestingPeachFace I'm no expert either... and I'm sure even experts get confused, tbh :D It's interesting to me seeing that there exist different definitions -- with that being said, your way of classifying makes a lot of sense and will be pretty useful for people new to the genre!
      Lol @ seeing "puppy dogs" and "yanderes" in the same list. I admire the range! ^_^ Whether in video format or otherwise, that's a topic that'd be a lot of fun to discuss.
      Period Cube is... mediocre? Out of all the (Japanese, commercial) otome games I've played, it's my least favourite. I don't regret buying it, because there's a couple of things in it that were interesting (the MMORPG elements/interface, the music, the secondary characters and the environments, one LI I really liked and one other that was pretty intriguing), but there was also a lot of nonsense and plotholes, not to mention that the heroine made me sad with what little of a personality and agency she has.
      All in all, I enjoyed it more like a big ole soap opera in which the VAs were giving it their all, and less like a story I was supposed to be invested in. I'd say play it if you're curious, but if you have other games fighting for your time, it's very skippable.

    • @RestingPeachFace
      @RestingPeachFace  4 года назад

      Hahaha yeah, it’s because I have an “in real” type and a “in otome only” type 😂
      Ooh ok, that’s fair enough. I feel like the main character seems to make or break otomes for many fans. I’ll probably give it a go because I want to play all the localised titles, but I won’t expect anything amazing 😂

      @@RestingPeachFace haha, love it :D
      Yeah, sounds like the best way of getting into this one. I do hope your experience as a whole is still enjoyable then! :))) My favourite routes were Astrum, who's genuinely precious and made me smile every time he opened his mouth, and Zain -- a bit more of a problematic fave, and many plotholes, but an interesting concept. The worst for me was the secret route, but it's very "your mileage may vary". Without spoiling, It was a *lot* of stuff I didn't like in one path, but other types of players would be into it for the same reasons I gave it a big nope, sooo.... If you play or have played MMOs at any point in your life, you'll also like some elements of the game... That, or find it all the more unrealistic. :D

      I used to play mmos a lot when I was younger, so who knows, I might find the concept interesting 😁

    I love playing otome games! I am quite broke lol so I played the ones on mobile but I bought my first otome game, that doesn’t need checkpoints etc, on the nintendo switch, which is piofiore. I’m hoping episodio 1926 gets localised soon

      Aww yeah, he was cute, I liked his story as tragic as parts of it were 😭! I’ve heard his bad ending is one of the worst in the sequel. Just so you know to be prepared if it does get localised lol.
      I have been curious about Ikemen Vampire actually, it’s just the ticket system 🙈

    Loved the explanation! Thank you so much for the video! I'm pretty familiar with the genre, but this'll really help for my peers -who don't really know why I geek out about otome everyday- LOL
    I'm not sure if you've done this already, but I'd be really interested if you did a general Otome video centered around character tropes? What tropes you like/dislike, what characters you think pulled off the tropes really well, and or maybe just some common tropes in general? I always love popping the question to other people (because everyone has a variety of tastes and types) so I'd love to see your thoughts on it :^)!

    What I like about the Otome Games are the story telling, the voice actors and the CG's essencially. There are sometimes when the background music is really good, but not always. The gameplay or the Dating Sim part, if it is waaaaay too complicated, I usually drop it or find a guide for an especific character, sometimes after I reached and ending (the normal one).
    I'm not the best player for Otome Games XD

    • @RestingPeachFace
      @RestingPeachFace  4 года назад +1

      I agree! Some of them are REALLY difficult 😣
      Like Wand of Fortune is notorious, many people screw it up even with a walkthrough 🤣 I gave up after trying one character and failing twice lmao.
      Even brothers conflict is difficult because you have to make sure you see every event or you can’t reach the romance ending. Crazy!

    Hi Lilu. I just finished Piofiore and I have 2 questions. 1. Why was that guy Henri in the game at all when we only have one cutscene with him? And 2, why was that guy in the mask on the cover of the game, when we never date him at all either?

    • @RestingPeachFace
      @RestingPeachFace  4 года назад +1

      Hello! And I think you’ve got a little confused there, direttore (the guy in the mask) is Henri, which is why he’s on the front!

    • @AnimeGirl4891

      Really? I didn’t recognize him.

    • @RestingPeachFace
      @RestingPeachFace  4 года назад

      I guess the mask did a really good job XD his hair is also a lot longer as direttore, and his voice completely different. So that could be why!
