Dagoth Ur narrating Lovecraft is the best outcome I could ever expect from the internet in 2023

For such a basic story, it is a fantastic introduction to the main theme of Lovecraft's work. The only true fear is that of the unknown.

Such a good crescendo in his voice as the tension built towards the end

There's an idea floating around that it was more an allusion to the devil

NGL... began to sweat at 10:36 when the first description we get of this ominous beast is "anthropoid ape."

also, if I recall, he named not that cat, but had been given it by an aunt who named it such.

Whatever he named it, it must have been after someone or something for which he had great affection. My wife named our two cats after characters played by Harrison Ford, who is probably my favorite actor, and I'm sure Lovecraft showed no less affection for his cat.

Isn't this Lovercraft's first story, or close to it?

Yup, This one came out in 1905 and was his first writing stories like he's traditionally known too. Stories before this one were fairly short but ones directly after this were much longer form.

You see we have stories like this where you have something akin to a cave dwelling hominid, and in the modern day you have "skin walkers" which have similar sounding features, barring some lost traits.

@@redking36 Honestly the way it sounded, I imagined the dude who lived under rocks in the episode of primal with the giant ass spider.
