    Like most people here watching, I have a project XJ as well. Your videos are super useful as I decide how I want mine built. Looking to do a lot of upgrades, 3.5"-4" lift, 3-link long arm, frame stiffeners, Ox locker WJ knuckles, brakes, and steering, Ford 8.8 rear (only because I have the Dana 35 right now) ZJ anti-sway bar, and much more! Thanks for all your hard work! I'll be doing a ton of regular maintenance as well and your videos are priceless for that.

    Dan the man, you got a great looking family, some awesome jeeps, quality tools, but you're willing to put all that in the hands of a harbor freight torque wrench?? Man pony up and go get something respectable. A digital husky brand will run ya about $160, craftsman $200, or go big baller like we know you do and get the milwaukee M12 torque wrench that'll be about $700. Your family deserves better!

That stuff needs to be in your door bottoms, rocker panels, quarter panels, frame rails, cross members, fender low points, etc. Since everything rots out from inside those points. • @xj_overlander
    @xj_overlander 2 года назад +4

    Nice! Loved watching this mini series on the lift. Caster is totally perfect. That’s what I love about a lower lift is you can get away with more caster without ruining the pinion angle. Which was a problem for me when I had the factory LP D30. I’ve definitely found that alignment shops won’t adjust caster if the jeep has aftermarket control arms. I remember I went to Les Schwab and pointed out my adjustable upper control arms and asked if they could adjust the upper arm to adjust my caster. They said they would and then I had them do the alignment. Got the jeep back and I looked at the sheet. They didn’t even touch caster and denied even offering to adjust it. Haven’t been back to have them do an alignment for me

    • @ProjectDanH

      Oh man. Yeah, I could imagine them denying adjustable control arms.. hope they didn't charge you. Lol

    • @motownXJdad9565

      not agreeing with that shop, but adjustable control arms on Jeeps suck because you have to remove them to adjust them. i cant figure out why no one make double adjustable control arms for Jeeps

    • @xj_overlander
      @xj_overlander 2 года назад

      @@ProjectDanH they did! But it’s okay, I know the manager and he lets me pop by anytime to check my alignment so I can do it myself

    • @xj_overlander
      @xj_overlander 2 года назад +1

      @@motownXJdad9565 oh I absolutely understand that. Which is exactly why I asked them if they would do it and I pointed out how they would need to be adjusted. Said if they wouldn’t do it, it’s okay, I’d just do it myself. I had to leave that night for a 200 mile drive to the coast and wanted to save any time if possible. That’s why I was so frustrated, they said they would do it and were informed about the job and still didn’t do it

    Great video. Maintenance and looking everything over is key. Wish I could have found this sooner. I had to go over everything shortly after buying my xj. Kind of wish the guy who built it seen this. But then again he might not have sold it to me. It's a rough country lift 6.5. with upgraded shocks bilstiens in the front Rusty's in the back. The set up for the rear shocks was a headache. Someone welded the flag pin bolts in place when it had a 8in lift. Then when they dropped it to a 6.5. they cut the shocks leaving the post and bolts. And offset a new bracket. The offset was actually pretty well thought out. But the single 3/8 steel bolt and nut. Was a piss poor choice for a fastener. It was a battle. But it has a good 7/8 grade 8 bolts with lock nuts and washers. It'll do until it's time to replace the shocks. Then it'll be done by the book. I don't think the prior owner knew what a torque wrench was. So much was loose. But it rides like a dream now and for most of the places I go. Is more then durable. I'll be upgrading as I need to replace things. I'll be watching more of your videos. Great job man

    Hey Dan if you find yourself needing longer wheel studs ,. 1999-1/2 and newer use longer wheel studs in the front for XJs and TJs , because they use different hubs and rotors than the older models .
    I don't know if you were aware of that or not , but I thought I would let you know that , maybe it will help you out with a project sometime.
    Tim from Wisconsin.

    Rough Country is the equivalent of going to AutoZone and buying the Valucrap instead of the Duratrash.
    Jeep looks deece tho.
    Edit: you took the time to wire wheel the mating surface, but didn't even bother to wire wheel the paint off your tag? Bruh... C'mon.

      @@ProjectDanH you can do whatever you wanna do man, as long as you pull the two diff bolts that hold the tag in place and treat it with a little wire wheel action, at least make it readable. As far as what I wanna see, gears and lockers before lightbars, long arms (that angle on the LCA has got to hurt when you hit a bump), WJ swap, bumper build, rock sliders, twin Tcase? Idk. Anything but RC. I picked up a my 7th XJ (currently only have 3) about a year ago and it came with some newly installed control arms and control arm drop brackets, 5" lift, SYE, and I had it on some rather easy trails in the High Desert of Oregon and I snapped one of the control arms off the bushing eye kuz the weld only had good penetration on 25% of the bead. Luckily the CADB prevented any major body damage. But that Jeep was only a quick flip anyways, nothing like my daily XJ or my trailer queen XJ.
