Thanks for showing me how to use the three basic colors - cyan, fuchsia, turquoise - to create other colors. I accidentally got a speak of each on something I was going to dye. This gave me an idea how to salvage it. And your shirts always look great.
Hi! We got our dyes from Dharma Trading and Pro Chemical & Dye. Both of these companies are based in the United States and have good prices. If you are interested in buying dyes you can check out our list of dye suppliers around the world so you can buy from someone close to you. I hope it helps! www.chandye.com/where-can-you-buy-dyes-around-the-world/
You want to damp the shirt first. Then do your pattern using the rubber bands. Then color your shirt both sides. Once you are finished put the shirt in a plastic bag over night. Then next day soak the shirt in running cold water til you get clear water coming off the shirt. Take the rubber bands off an there you have it. I re rinse mine once the rubber bands are off. An hang it up in your shower. I was taught to turn the items inside out an tie dye that way. Have some gloves handy
Hello! We are currently using American Apparel t-shirts. We also tried other brands such as Gildan, which are cheaper but are less comfortable. The shirts you use depend mainly on your budget and what you want to do with them. I would recommend cheap shirts like Gildan if you're just practicing and more expensive, comfortable shirts like American Apparel or Bella&Canvas if you want to sell them to your customers.
What tie dye do you use? And is there a difference between a 5 dollar set of dye, and a 10 dollar set of dye? And if so what is the difference? I love your videos by the way! ♥
Fiber-reactive dyes. They are all the same as long as it's the right kind. Look for a kit that specifies the type of dye. Stay away from all-purpose dyes and direct dyes.
Hello! We love to mix our dye bottles with warm water, it makes it easier for the dye to dissolve and the added temperature makes the dye react quicker when it touches the fabric.

Not understanding what you are doing with the giant tub of liquid. I'm guessing its water? Are you rinsing the shirt out this way? I rinse mine out under running water, so a bit confused lol. The shirt looks great though!
The giant tub is indeed filled with water, we use it to rinse out the shirts just like you said. Rinsing it under running water also works very well. Both techniques are fine but we prefer dunking the shirt in a bath of cold water because we find that it works better for us, not only for showing the viewers but also to prevent backstaining. Thank you for asking!
I agree that it might seem counterintuitive at first glance. What really happens is that as the shirt is submerged, not only is the dye getting diluted a lot but the soda ash is also getting diluted. The result is that the shirt quickly finds itself in an environment which is not conducive to dyeing. The large amount of water weakens both the dye and the soda very quickly and this effect is even more pronounced when using cold water.
@@Chandye after some doing more some research I finally understand what you're talking about. ☺️ I'm realizing that I'm not letting my dye sit long enough so they stop being reactive. So I have a lot of backstaining that I deal with if I'm doing lighter colors which is why I run my fabric under running water for a LONG time. Thanks for the feedback!

Are the shirts wet before you put the dye on?
Yes we leave the shirts a bit damp before dyeing them to help the fibers soak in the dye.
