I've largely enjoyed Slitherine's games. Their older stuff is turn-based, often heavily tabletop wargaming inspired or directly ported from boardgames, I think? I haven't seen any that are really flashy on visuals or fast-paced action. But the games I've seen or played all feel like some wargamers put a lot of thought into it. An RTS published by them feels closer to Wargame/Warno than Company of Heroes on the RTS spectrum, which is cool. I didn't even know about Starship Troopers Terran Command until Splat mentioned it and I had to look it up. For another publisher whose line-up I'm really liking, Hooded Horse has Terra Invicta, Falling Frontier, and Nebulous Fleet Command. It's a good time for the RTS types I like!
Back in the early 90s, Bethesda had a Terminator FPS that took place in the future. It was really well done, and had such a great feel in the atmosphere. I played hundreds of hours of it. Hopefully this one has some of that feel even though it is not a FPS. This one will definitely be better with out the music.
If all the military command got nuked, the Army would still fight, but who would be the surviving command? Probably National guard who weren't on duty, and a bunch of those guys are cops and firefighters. Not likely, but I could see it happening in a very narrow set of circumstances
@kerbalairforce8802 the chain of command becomes purely theoretical after a certain point. There comes a point where the government can't parse it out fast enough and things start to collapse. Once the first 20 people In line are all gone, you've already reached the point where various militia and survivor groups will start declaring secession and independence. Some units of the national guard would continue fighting and await new orders from command, others would likely continue doing their job knowing its hopeless because there's simply nothing else they can do. But eventually those left will just follow whoever takes charge with a claim to legitimacy, and that would likely be anyone taking charge who vows to uphold the constitution and not make themselves a king or warlord. Law enforcement would collapse a lot faster than the military or guard would, because their jobs are closer to their family and contingent on law and order. Once things start to collapse, there's no longer law and order, at that point the police end up just being well prepared civilians
In the middle of an ongoing firefight/clusterfuck, the troops will fall into line behind anyone that gives them a plan and a set of orders. And they aren't wrong to do so. A bad plan executed quickly and with determination is always better than a good plan that shows up later or that doesn't commit. And there's frequently no way of knowing what will work, what will partly work and what will get everyone killed RFN. But just sitting there panicking is pretty much guaranteed to get lots of people killed and a lot of very important and expensive hardware destroyed or lost. So grab that first plan and run with it.
This game makes me think of the Close Combat series. Slower pace, unit ammo, buildings to take cover in. A good formula to work with. And you don't have to worry about moral in this one, no units running away for ten minutes.
great to hear that you got a new box man, that's a big deal. Much grats! You'll be much happier, as games will operate faster and all-round smoother, including your software suits for editing.
I have had my eye on this for a minute. I certainly hope they do an optimization check before launch. If it's not hitting 60-90 FPS on a 3090 on launch, it may spell doom right off the bat.
I don't think this makes sense chronologically. I know it's all fantasy, but in terms of immersion, I don't think Skynet would have had such developed forces deployed so readily after Judgement Day. As far as I understand it, the missiles were launched suddenly and more or less without warning once Skynet took over control of the USA's defences (and potentially others), leading to a nuclear war and destruction of almost all civilization. Skynet presumably had access to all other human-made experimental automated forces, and their initial capabilities would have been extremely limited and incomparable to surviving military forces, with a small amount of rather weak machines that would have a primary goal of securing manufacturing facilities and resources. The key however, is that Skynet had the initiative while humanities forces were broken and beheaded, and would begin a long road to securing resources and accumulating productive power in order to start forming its own armies and supply chains from the ruins of civilization. Over the next few years, Skynet would have gone from a negligible force of relatively crude machines working 24/7 with one mindset to self replicate into a powerful faction with real feet on the ground and growingly formidable weapons. Meanwhile, Humanity would be continuing to starve and see the latter devastating portion of casualties arise from the collapse of supply chains and fallout while desperately working to re-establish long distance communication and cohesion of all surviving portions of Humanity. It wouldn't be till years later after the nuclear fire that Skynet actually had real troops face to face with what would become the resistance. There would have been a years long period of "silence" between the opposing sides while the dust settled and the remaining pieces were put in place. Only then would Skynet have become the terrifying war machine we all recognise. Any conflict between Skynet and Humanity immediately after the nuclear war would have been extremely rare and isolated incidents involving Skynet controlled units of human developed war machines. It wouldn't have been in Skynet's interest to show its hand so early before establishing its roots. It's no fucking wonder I'm still single.
Its a really big issue that this game takes place right after Judgement day. Skynet's forces are way too advanced way too soon here. Isnt it established already that the stuff we see in T1 and T2 is late war? Skynet didnt have time to build an army of machines for the war. It was activated, immediately became self aware, humans got scared and tried to shut it down and Skynet panicked and launched the nukes as an act of self defense. Edit: The guy ingame mentioned Legion. Nevermind I dont care anymore. Why did the devs have to tie this into Dark Fate man?
you can't tell due to the nature of splatter cat's videos but this game is a persistent rts similar to homeworld where the units you have in one mission will carry on to the next one
Judgement day occurred on Aug 29th, 1997 (according to the T2 movie). Stuff like this game annoys me, since it's two weeks past that date, and everyone is running around with laser rifles. I was under the impression it took a few years for the machines to develop the laser rifles, hence how they appeared in the future in the movies.
in the dark fate timeline (aka the timeline when this game takes place) Judgement day happens in the 2020's as the OG Judgement day was Stopped from Happening
Yeah, IR would fairly easily penetrate most conventional smoke rounds. Though, there are varients that have been developed that address this, it's unlikely a police department would have those though.

Just 2 weeks after Judgement Day and Skynet already has a giant, fully-equipped robot army, with drone swarms, mech walkers, Terminators and phased plasma pulse rifles???
It's the Legion timeline. The more Judgement day is delayed. The more resources are available to Legion or Skynet, whoever. Makes sense given our world infrastructure building is still going. Gotta remember, the original timeline, nuclear war happen in 1997, think of the nukes that are available then from Russia & US & what was standing then.
Seriously looking forward to this game! Looks like it will be good fun. If you folks haven't been following this for awhile, you might of noticed the change in developer. The initial Dev's were Cat's who play, who made Syrian warfare. Solid game, however with the war going on it looks like Silitherine cut ties with the company and has been completing the work on it. don't believe me? Go take a look at Syrian warfare, see the reused assets and style.
@@coolhead1670 I figured it was the war, but I've been made aware it was due to funding on part of cats who play, they weren't able to keep up. Which honestly is better then what was left to speculation at first.
Is it me or did they completely change the game since last time I saw it? It used to look like the Dark Fate future war, but now it just looks exactly like the T1/2 future war, including all the matching environments and sounds. I wonder why they don't just remove the Dark Fate subtitle.
There are multiple settings/environments over the different maps, some are the dark urban ruins like the movie, some are more rural like this, some are just old human ruins, and some have a ton of machine architecture, etc
So, is there cover bonus? I couldn't tell. I know that you can garrison buildings and that you will receive a bonus from that, but what about standing behind a tree or something?
Definitely will be bigger battles, I can’t say for certain on the base building as the initial devs seemed to have followed a similar formula. (Syrian warfare)
There's some easily fixable gigantic goofs they need to fix to appeal to serious Terminator fans: Very very anachronistic in-universe, no plasma guns or bi-pedal machines yet. Even if T-70's existed, would not be any factories up and running pumping them out yet, and those are clearly way too humanoid and compact to be T70's. Nor would have Skynet reached Atlanta until years later. And two weeks after a city being nuked, would not be at all safe for humans to wander around in, rad-wise; it would be way too hot. If those are T-800's, this has to take place in the mid to late-2020's-ish. If T-600's, they're not the Salvation" timeline, this would be no earlier than the early 2020's, assuming plasma weaponry exists by then. Edit: This game could be made quite a bit more interesting if it was set from Judgement Day all the way to 2029, showing humanity and then the Resistance discovering and encountering progressively more advanced HK's and terminator models, while deepening the lore on the development, production, and field use and experience of these creations of Skynet. I'd prefer not another generic RTS a la "Aliens: Dark Descent" that is mostly just an IP money grab.
This would be great as a game similar to aliens dark descent Id think. Taking small teams out and the more firefights you get in the more terminators show up until you eventually just have to pull out and try again.
@@jacksmith-vs4ct Nah, here in Germany some smart-ass politicians or surviving Antifa members stilll would bash on the cops for AI-phobic behaviour or something like that
if this is supposed to be right after the nukes fell, the terminators should be like the tank treaded T-100's from the 3rd movie. hopefully they account for the era specific terminators, that would be a nice attention to detail. then later missions they can introduce the more advanced models like the clunky T-600 and then finally the T-800 and T-850's

For another publisher whose line-up I'm really liking, Hooded Horse has Terra Invicta, Falling Frontier, and Nebulous Fleet Command. It's a good time for the RTS types I like!
"Freedom seed"
I'm freaking wheezing... I've never heard that one before. 🤣
This looks really awesome. Hope they will keep updating it. Maybe vs maps also like command and conquer
@28:16 I wonder if there is a name for that particular kind of WW1 style machine gun sound
Back in the early 90s, Bethesda had a Terminator FPS that took place in the future. It was really well done, and had such a great feel in the atmosphere. I played hundreds of hours of it. Hopefully this one has some of that feel even though it is not a FPS. This one will definitely be better with out the music.
Army under law enforcement command during a war? Yeah right.
That’s a lot of text guys
In the middle of an ongoing firefight/clusterfuck, the troops will fall into line behind anyone that gives them a plan and a set of orders. And they aren't wrong to do so. A bad plan executed quickly and with determination is always better than a good plan that shows up later or that doesn't commit.
And there's frequently no way of knowing what will work, what will partly work and what will get everyone killed RFN. But just sitting there panicking is pretty much guaranteed to get lots of people killed and a lot of very important and expensive hardware destroyed or lost. So grab that first plan and run with it.
@@DrBunnyMedicinal True. Any plan is better then no plan and in combat scenarios quick thinking and quick acting brings victory.
This game makes me think of the Close Combat series. Slower pace, unit ammo, buildings to take cover in. A good formula to work with. And you don't have to worry about moral in this one, no units running away for ten minutes.
In gameplay terms its a spiritual successor of Warfare (2008), some of the old crew worked on it.
@@fokka6010 ah don't know that game, will have to check it out
@@fokka6010 Syrian Warfare is probably more well known tbf.
Seems more Company of Heroes to me.
great to hear that you got a new box man, that's a big deal. Much grats! You'll be much happier, as games will operate faster and all-round smoother, including your software suits for editing.
Just covered this ourselves and was most impressed by the sound design!
I have had my eye on this for a minute. I certainly hope they do an optimization check before launch. If it's not hitting 60-90 FPS on a 3090 on launch, it may spell doom right off the bat.
love it my dude, keep up the great work!!
Reminds me of the game earth 2150 the USA had these terminator robots as inf. i wish they would do a remake of that game, it was excellent
A Terminator future-war RTS? Count me in!
BRADLEYS IN A TERMINATOR GAME! I am in LOVE
you can't tell due to the nature of splatter cat's videos but this game is a persistent rts similar to homeworld where the units you have in one mission will carry on to the next one
What a cool looking game, cant wait for demo. Liked and subbed :)
Dawsonville checking in splatt
Sounds like the voice actor for Major Stevens is the same for the lead seargant in Aliens dark descent. I like it
Looks like fun. The music gives me some good C&C vibes in a way.
Now that you have a 4080, can you record in 4K? It would be so good! :)
You already got my full backing
I already love this game already
Yeah, IR would fairly easily penetrate most conventional smoke rounds. Though, there are varients that have been developed that address this, it's unlikely a police department would have those though.
well it was military guys with the smoke grenades so maybe they did
Stevens voice sounds like Harper from Aliens Dark Descent
28:22 might not have "run flats".. but apparently "four wheel steering" 😆😆
This looks interesting indeed. The storytelling is also not bad at all. I think I'll keep an eye on this one. Let's hope they deliver.
Lol love terminator and RTS…not so sure about the beginning where cops have to save the military 😂 pretty sure the infantry don’t just stop operating as soon as their officer is killed
3:20 Wow, are you from Georgia?
I'm also from Georgia, and we have a very specific accent.
Only here, my Georgia is in the Caucasus.
😁😁😁
სალამი საქართველოდან ჯორჯიას
😆
Just 2 weeks after Judgement Day and Skynet already has a giant, fully-equipped robot army, with drone swarms, mech walkers, Terminators and phased plasma pulse rifles???
It's the Legion timeline. The more Judgement day is delayed. The more resources are available to Legion or Skynet, whoever. Makes sense given our world infrastructure building is still going. Gotta remember, the original timeline, nuclear war happen in 1997, think of the nukes that are available then from Russia & US & what was standing then.
@@tristanbackup2536 The Terminator universe is a mess
Oh wow Splat you are from GA? I just came back from spending time in Canton
I have Syrian warfare and i did notice the similar or exact mechanics from that game. I couldn't believe the coincident of it
@@coolhead1670 I figured it was the war, but I've been made aware it was due to funding on part of cats who play, they weren't able to keep up. Which honestly is better then what was left to speculation at first.
visually reminds me of Dawn of War..do you know how many people wait for a real successor to DOW 1 dark crusade soultstorm and 2 ? a lot !
i find it funny the 12.7 mm ammo in the machine gun atop the American gun truck in Atlanta. the other ammos seem accurate
Another game reminding me how much I miss World in Conflict. 😐
Looks interesting , can't wait for it.
Is it me or did they completely change the game since last time I saw it? It used to look like the Dark Fate future war, but now it just looks exactly like the T1/2 future war, including all the matching environments and sounds. I wonder why they don't just remove the Dark Fate subtitle.
Because Dark Fate set up the nuTerminator timeline with Legion instead of Skynet?
There are multiple settings/environments over the different maps, some are the dark urban ruins like the movie, some are more rural like this, some are just old human ruins, and some have a ton of machine architecture, etc
Hmm, they wouldn't have plasma rifles right after Judgement Day...
So, is there cover bonus? I couldn't tell. I know that you can garrison buildings and that you will receive a bonus from that, but what about standing behind a tree or something?
Oh my goodness! I can't wait for this!
Looks great! I like how the vehicles can repair themselves.
Remember in the first Terminator movie when Arny got gunned downed in the police station by 20 5.56mm bullets. 😛
Finally, actual gameplay.
Thanks for showcasing! ^^
is this all micro squad stuff or are there bigger macro battles / base building later?
Definitely will be bigger battles, I can’t say for certain on the base building as the initial devs seemed to have followed a similar formula. (Syrian warfare)
Actually looks pretty sick!
I get big 'world in conflict' vibes
They seem to be fighthing Legion, from the latest terminator movie, not the Skynet.
There's some easily fixable gigantic goofs they need to fix to appeal to serious Terminator fans:
Very very anachronistic in-universe, no plasma guns or bi-pedal machines yet.
So.. did Lazlo make it?
Totally forgot this is the Universe where John Connor was killed. Very cool premise. Very cool game
This would be great as a game similar to aliens dark descent Id think. Taking small teams out and the more firefights you get in the more terminators show up until you eventually just have to pull out and try again.
This looks really fun i loved starship troopers
"We're still cops. We have a duty to help people."
Pure comic gold!
and Atlanta PD at that lol maybe if they were in Germany or something it would be more believable
Aliens Dark Descent, Robocop Rogue City which just came today, and now this ?? 2023 seems to be a good year for people with '80's nostalgia going on, AND I'M ONE OF THEM !!! 😜😜😜
Hey, does anyone know where I can find splat's set up? I wanna start saving for the best on the market rn, too.
I am definitely getting this as I absolutely everything Terminator 😊
You don't really look while playing, do you? When the Humvee got immobilized the command buttons for it clearly show a wrench. Took you way to long to figure out. ^^
