- Giardiasis is a common enteric infection caused by the protozoan Giardia lamblia (also known as G. duodenalis or G. intestinalis). Transmission usually occurs via the faecal-oral route when travelling and is characterised by gastrointestinal symptoms (eg. diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, greasy stools, bloating, nausea, vomiting and weight loss). However, 50% of infections are asymptomatic.

I had this whilst working 18 hour days on a farm in NZ. It felt like I had swallowed a bag of fishing hooks. My appetite went to zero and my weight plummeted and I cried when I saw myself in the mirror after a shower. I dragged myself to the doctor and begged for help. They gave me some tablets which tasted like copper and the pain slowly disappeared. Eventually my appetite returned and I ate like a seagull for weeks to get the weight back. Giardia is no joke.
How many days did it take to cure the disease?
How long did it take to recover huh?? Why is it so hard to answer that? 🙄

About 2-3 days for the pain to go and appetite to fully return. A few months to get the weight back.

Quite informative video about Giardiasis. I would like to add that once a person or animal has been infected with Giardia, the parasite lives in the intestines and is passed in stool. It can result in long term complications such as reactive arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, and recurring diarrhea that can last for years.
Anybody only get nausea in the morning right when you wake up, only for it to completely go away until the next morning? Pretty sure I have giardia, but would love to hear others’ symptoms. All doctors and GI specialists have said they do not know what it could be. Going on for months now on and off and I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.

Im just getting over it, I hope. Feel terrible, lost a lot of weight, worst nausea ever, can only eat like a sparrow. Recommend seeing a doctor quickly which I didnt because I thought it would go away!!!😥
Me too!!!!!! Did you take any antibiotics and How long did it take for your diarrhoea to go away? I have already taken a week off work. I can’t deal with this any longer! Hope you feel better
@@Hen-vi9pr was in the same boat as you guys.. been having diarrhea for 2 weeks + non stop… lost weight ,nausea , everything you name it … went to a gastro doctor and he gave me flagyl 500 go take it now !!
How long did you symptoms last for?
@@Hen-vi9pr I took antibiotics. i would be dead if didnt. i was dehyrated. I had it 9 days before I had medical treatment
