Also as mentioned in second edition 2017 (Hair et al.) primer on structural equation modelling, first we should check indirect effect, then check the direct effect. Is that approach correct?
Yes
Awesome..
Thanks
Thank you so much for the explanation! The low sound quality lowers the overall quality of the video which is a pity, maybe theres a way to tackle this, but nevertheless, thanks a lot for the extensive explanation! :)
Hi. Thanks for the appreciation. This was one of the old video, i have since worked on the sound. Please do watch some latest ones and please do provide your feedback. Really appreciate it. Thanks.
Thank you for uploading such useful videos. I have been working on WARP PLS but for mediation I need help. I found your all three videos on mediation very easy to understand. My question is can we use these videos for WARP PLS mediation analysis too? My data is not normal so I cant go for Sobel test.
Thanks. I am glad you liked it. Yes, what ever software you use, the main principles do not change. Warpls is a PLS-SEM based software so you will be good

What to if i want to do mediation analysis in my research. And with the help of review of literature i have build a model. But problem occur when somehow two variables are not correlated or when two variables are correlated but one does not predict another variable.
Literature provides you with an educated guess, it is not necessary that whatever you propose must hold true in light of analysis. If you fail to find relationships you will have to discuss the possible reason for lack of relationships in light of existing literature.
Sir, my confidence intervals align with my p value's significance. But confidence interval bias corrected is not matching with the p value significance. Can I report confidence intervals, instead of bias corrected confidence intervals?
You may
Sir, if there is full mediation, then shall i delete the path drawn between IV & DV, for conducting further MGA analayis?
No.
thank you for the video Prof. I wish to know the total effect is there a calculation like direct effect + indirect effect? i saw you took the results directly from the output.
Thanks for watching. Yes you can calculate. Total Effect = Direct Effect + Indirect Effect.
Professor, if mediation analysis has to be done for groups. Then it should be done after measurement invariance test & before MGA. Is that correct?
Yes
if my model has the hypo that there is a significant relationship between Iv and Dv, should we consider it as accepted or rejected? should we consider path value coefficient or total effect
Use Path Coefficient.
Thank you for the video, if a model from the literature shows an effect of IV on DV, I'm interested to test the full mediation of a variable without taking into consideration of the direct effect of the IV on DV, is that possible too?. thank you, sir
Yes, why not you can assess any relationship if it has a theoretical foundation.
Professor, in my study, theory suggests there is no direct relation between my IV & DV, but IV influences MV, & then MV impacts DV. Can i conduct a mediation analysis in this case? If yes, and i get results showing complete mediation, then does it not put a question on why i connected the IV & DV in my path diagram? Also, how to write that there could be other mediating variables also apart from the MV which i used in my study? Please answer.
The connection of IV and DV is to check if there is any direct effect as well that can help assess the type of mediation.
thanks sir
Sir, thank you for the explanation, I still got one more question: I'm also testing my model's mediating effect and I have three independent variables, one mediator and one DV. And I noticed that after removing the direct connections (C' in our case) between my IVs and DV, the indirect effects of them changed from insignificant to significant. Do you know the reasons for this? Can I take the changed model instead as it confirms the mediating effect I proposed? Thank you in advance!
This becomes significant because now there is no direct effect to pass on the effect, so all the effect is passing through the mediators. Yes, you can take the changed model. But this also depends on how you have described your model in the literature.
@@researchwithfawad Thank you for answering! I will try to find literature that supports this model :)
How to deal with singular matrix problem. How can i check model fitness of whole model 7 preecher and hayes. Its giving me this error. Please guide
Singular Matrix may result because of low sample size or when two columns are identical. If you are adding dummy variables, please do not add all the categories, add n-1, leave one as reference category.
For model fit, i have used preacher and hayes yes, but you can calculate goodness of fit. Although spss doesnt provide fit indices.
@@researchwithfawad do you have a video where u can provide a to z analysis of model 7. Sample size isnt low i am not getting what mistake i am doing

Thank you so much for the explains. I want to ask if the direct effect has bigger coeff than the indirect (total, direct, and indirect are significance) is it okay? is it mediation is still happened?

Greetings, sir, and thank you for the video on report writing mediation analysis. Any video tutorials on sequential mediation analysis reports, like Hayes' Process Macro (Template model 6), do you have? Thanks.
The sequential mediation analysis was performed in SMART PLS 3.
Thanks for your feedback. I am glad you liked the video. Serial Mediation using Hayes Process Macro will be uploaded by next week. I am just editing that video.
Thank you sir,
If we hv two mv and two Dv how to interpret the results
It will still be same. See the Total Effect, the Direct Effect, and specific indirect effect for each mediating variable.
IF total effect of IV on DV was insignificant (β = 0.059; t = 17461, < 0.081). With the inclusion of the MV, the impact of IV on DV became insignificant (β = -0.008; t = 0.373, < 0.079). The indirect effect of IV on DV through MV was found significant (β = 0.067; t = 2.335, < 0.020). This shows that the relationship between IV and DV is fully mediated by MV. - this correct?
Yes, if the direct effects are insignificant, while the specific indirect effect is significant, this shows full mediation

Sir which software you have used for this mediation analysis?
Smartpls
Sir pls help me confirm one point for mediation. In my model, one of the IDV has 4 mediators.
PLS gives following results-
Total effect- Significant
Direct Effect - Insignificant
Specific Indirect Effect - Significant for 3 and Insignificant for 1 mediator.
For 3 significant indirect relations, will we write full mediation?
Because 3 mediators have an impact, how can each have full mediation?
Do I write- H 21 is supported as MV fully mediates the relationship between IDV and DV.
Pls guide as to how to write the results in thesis🙏
Full mediation is when direct effect is insignificant, but indirect effects are significant.
Partial is when both are significant.
Use this rule to identify full and partial mediation.
Yes sir, with 3 mediators between IDV n DV, durect effect is Insignificant, so for hypothesis of all 3 mediators, I shall write full mediation?
if it is more than one IV and DV how to report sir, is consolidated table possible
Yes even it is more than one IV and DV, you just have more rows for Total and Direct Effects.
Thank you for this video. I have one question:
Thanks. I am glad you liked it
@@researchwithfawad You helped a lot of people. Tq!
sir what will be the case if total effect comes as insignificant. please reply
Is the indirect effect significant?
Is this one tailed test? How to calculate path c? One tail or two tail?
Yes, select one tailed if sure about direction of relationship.
Is the write up and table in APA format?
Slight changes are required. As APA tables have their own format. Results are reported based on how different journals require the results of mediation.
I'm confused.. so according to this, a simple mediation model of X, Y, & Z like this have only 1 hypothesis?
that is the total effect (of mediation) from X to Y?
I thought there would be 2 or 3 hypothesis.. 4 max.
why doesn't path *c, c', a, & b* become their own hypothesis?
Thanks for the queries. There are different thoughts about it. You can have multiple hypotheses. Actually, Research papers prefer multiple hypotheses.
Hi, may I ask for a reference of this approach please?
You can refer to Hair et al (2016), A primer on PLS-SEM
Respected Sir, what is the total indirect effect? why are we not considering it for the indirect effect
If you have multiple mediators, total indirect effect is the sum of individual indirect effects.
Resp. Sir
how should we report for serial mediations sir
That depends on your framework and scope of study. Normally not required
output does not show t value and p value; on which basis indirect effect is reported then?
Please watch from 8 - 10:30
Hello I hope you notice this comment.. my reviewer has commented that the total effect value should be summation of direct and indirect effect. Please reply
Yes, Total effect is the sum of Direct and Indirect effect.
sir what if total effect, direct effect, and Indirect all are significant ??
Then, it partial mediation
i was doing mediaiton analysis using smart PLS. As the result I found The total effect is insignificant, But the direct effect and indirect effect are significant. then there is a full mediation right Sir?
Yes, there is mediation. For more detail on this issue, please read this thread

What if zero lies in bias corrected class intervals.when p value is significant.what is the impact of this in mediation analysis.it is fully, partly or no mediation. It is not clear from the video you shared.please reply
The two that you mentioned cant coexist. If there is a 0 in between, the p value will be over 0.05.

3. Direct effect- not Sign, Total Effect - not Sign, indirect effect - not sign - No Mediation

2) Direct - Significant (-ve), Total effect - Insignificant, Indirect - Significant (-ve) = Partial Mediation?

can i know the answer for this question? because i have same condition with the number 1
Thank u so much for the explaination. It was easy to understand, thanks for your effort🫶🏻 And i want to ask my problem in my mediation analysis result. So .
1. total effect = 0.2972 (not significant)
2. direct effect = 0.1246 (not significant)
3. indirect effect = 0.1726 (significant)
As i know full mediation happened when direct eff not significant and indirect significant. If i look in mu result it could be a full mediation, but the total effect (which mean the x and y correlation when m is not attend) is not significant, so is it still have mediation? Because as i know the x and y should be correlate if we want to analyze the mediation.
I hope you help for my thesis🥹🙏
Thanks for watching. With the total effect being insignificant suggests that the direct effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable is weak or non-existent. This could be due small sample size or ineffective independent variable. However, when the mediator is included in the model, it explains some of the relationship between the independent and dependent variables, leading to a significant indirect effect. The significance of the indirect effect suggests that the mediator is playing an important role in explaining the relationship between the independent and dependent variable.
Hi Sir, thank you for the explanation and the video. I have a follow up question: what if the indirect effects are all insignificant? whilst some of the direct effects and total effects are significant? what is the outcome of this scenario? thank you looking forward to your response.
If your Specific Indirect effects are insignificant, this shows no mediation, the other direct relationships may be significant but there is no mediation.
