- This is a upscale of the animated intro for Persona 4 for the PS2
The source was taken from the PS Vita release of Persona 4 Golden which included a 540p 16:9 version of the video. after extracting it directly from the games files I separated all the frames into PNGs and put it through Waifu2x upscaler to upscale the 540p footage to 1080p. Then I put it back together in Vegas

I like animation from 0:57 to 1:09. It seems to represent how each character is perceived by those around them. Kanji is thought of as a violent thug. Chie is shown doing something typically thought of as unfeminine. Yukiko is recorded from afar, something beautiful but distant and out of reach. Rise's is fairly obvious, it's her stage persona (the literal meaning of persona, not the magic power). Naoto is ignored and not taken seriously, the people shown just walking past paying her no mind as she futilely yells. However, I cannot find any meaning in Yosuke's. He seems to just be biking. I'm curious if anyone else has any ideas as to what that could possibly represent, because I am at a total loss.
I feel it is also relevant that it is shown through recordings, a broadcast, and a photograph. When one of those is viewed, the subject does not need to be present, and thus may not be able to share their side of the story. Any conclusions reached will be done solely by the viewer or viewers. In the same way, the assumptions made about the protagonists are not the complete picture. They are simply assumptions made by people who do not truly know those who they are making assumptions about. This ties into the overarching theme of Persona 4, that being "truth".
Yosuke is just him being a bumbling fool as many people treat him as.
I think Yosuke's might be representing how people feel he gets in the way/can't keep up. It looks as if the person is filming the river, and then Yosuke rides in and blocks their photo. He also falls to the left of the frame at the end, sort of showing how people view him as a fool and he can't keep up.
Yosuke just being Yosuke, unlucky and always had a fault that torments him inside out but remain loyal to his friends despite his own fault.
yeah he's riding his bike but right before the cut to the next character you see him slightly pitch forward like he's gonna crash.
It's interesting that these animations were preceeded by the Midnight Channel animation, which only supports your point about how each member of the Investigation Team was being shown as others perceive them.
Just noticed how everyone in the Investigation Team gets a scene of them being "recorded", from someone creeping Yosuke the fuck out and a regular elevator camera recording Chie, to things like a live performance for Rise, what might be Worldstar for Kanji, a TV segment for Yukiko, and... a TV interview for Naoto?
All that matters is the fact that all of the above characters have Shadows, and since Yu has none, he never got recorded.
May I bring up the case of Teddie?

Well maybe if they would put persona on Xbox One or Nintendo Switch. It’s pretty convenient that the only console I don’t have is the one that can play persona. Wait I just realized I have a ps2. I can play P3 and P4 but I wanna play P4 golden. I think I’m having a persona breakdown

It's also more minimalistic the golden one it's too bombastic, the same differenze can be found between the opening of p5 and p5r

I think it’s based on his idle animation, in which case he’d actually be dropping it. He is clumsy, after all.
He isn’t kicking anything Chie is going to and she kicks only the air, Yosuke is just dropping the knife.

Can we take a moment to appreciate how skilled Chie is.
All the others just poses or dance while she does a pro Kung fu move.
She does two high rotating kicks with both right and left legs so smoothly while rotating. They are fast and seems very deadly to me.
Believe me I tried it’s not easy at all doing that so smoothly.

I've been doing martial arts for over 6 years and have a black belt and kicks like that are HARD. They look like spinning heel kicks to me (at least that's what we'd call them) and although I don't see much of a practical use to how she's doing them here with the double spin and all, kicks that high are incredibly tricky to master.

A lotta people refuse to grow. They stay stuck. Im convinced the creators of the persona series tapped into this and their purpose in making the game is for entertainment but also to teach the value of figuring yourself out. Your true self.

I think this intro is infinitely better than p4g. Not to dock that one, it’s great, but this one is just so stylish and catchy.

I know this is an old comment, but both of them have their own charms. PMTS is meant to get you into the mystery of P4, make you want to unravel the secrets of Inaba. SW meanwhile is much more of a "Welcome back, big bro!" because that's what Golden is meant to be: a welcome back. Both are amazing though.

ManlyBadassHero always sung the opening lines of this during his Spirit Hunter NG let's play whenever it was a new day, as a running gag.
May I just say that I find that this intro fit the mood of the game better than Golden's intro did? I slightly prefer this song as well. I like how Golden's intro is more deceiving. Where as this just tells you verbatim that this game is going to have clear ups and downs, and its up to you and the friends you make along the way to figure it out. What a series, can't wait to play more of these games!

I just realized that during the segment where everyone shows up on different video media, a majority of them might actually just be their appearances on television before being thrown into the TV world. Like the recording of Kanji fighting the biker gang being for the news special, or Naoto’s footage being from the interview she agreed to in order to lure out the culprit.

I realize, weeks ago I found the original game for PS2 for about 20 thousand Chilean pesos but I thought "hey, why buy the original if the gold one looks better in many things."
Then, thanks to a streamer, I saw what the intro of the game was like and I felt like something died inside me. The original is the most animated intro I have heard in the entire saga and I like the presentation of each of the characters and that of Golden. ...eh? It's there and done, I can repeat the original as many times as I want and it's still good.

Original intro is both light and dreadful kind of opening. It certainly shows that p4 is less darker than p3, but still has the mystery vibes in it. Golden opening ruins the atmosphere to be honest.
But no joke, the art direction in golden's opening is really great.

My personal favourite opening of the latter three persona games, because it's melancholic, washed out, and captures the on-the-surface aspect of the game's characters perfectly, especially in that segment with the characters being shown on various pieces of footage. It's why i hate that they have to replace the openings in the re-released/updated versions because it loses the original opening that fit the game so well, and replaces it with a good, but rather out of place and more boring version of the opening.
I love this intro so much that when I got Golden on Steam I was so excited but the moment it started and I watched the new intro, I hated it, uninstalled it and never touched it again. the new intro SUUUUUUUUUUCKS!!!!!!.
