PLEASE READ: I just want to remind people, because this seems to be a touchy subject enough that my words aren’t actually being listened to- at no point in time did I suggest medication to treat anxiety was the wrong choice, or unhelpful in general. I only said, and stressed, that it was the wrong choice for ME, and elaborated on why. I also said I wasn’t necessarily recommending the same alternative methods that worked for me if you’re in a similar situation. All I’m doing is telling my story of how I got through rock bottom, because that was the question. There’s a stigma against medication, yes, but there’s also a stigma against alternative forms of mental health treatment because they’re considered “useless” even when there’s a ton of science to back up the mental health benefits of meditation and CBT. CBT has been proven as effective as anti-depressants, but doctors don’t often offer this as an option or tell patients of its benefits before writing a prescription. Meditation has been proven time and time again to physically change the make up of the brain. It won’t be enough for everyone in the same way that medication won’t be enough for everyone, but rather than sling mud at the opposite side of what worked for you, we should be coming together to end the stigma of treating mental health, in general. We should be focused on letting people know there are MANY potentially helpful options. Do NOT spread false info about alternative treatments in the comments or they will be deleted because they’re harmful to people looking for options and before you keep going at me for not personally taking medication, watch what I said again and realize I never said anyone should stay away from medication other than myself.

Exactly! Theres so many things in this! For myself, I have generalized anxiety, and am often feeling anxious about nothing in particular. Thats likely why antidepressants work well for me (plus I have depression as well). For someone who has specific triggers, it's so much easier to do things such as CBT and changing your thought process or meditation.
Glam&Gore what works for one person doesn't work for another. I have never found medication helpful for my anxiety but I know for a fact it has helped others around me. As you said we should all be there for each other and supportive in whatever way possible. It's helpful to know however that I am not alone and that anxiety can affect anyone. Keep up the great videos!! 😘
Glam&Gore I love you even more for sharing the mental struggles. You just described me to a T. My dad died suddenly 3 days after my aunt who I am close with was diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer. I have been told it is PTSD and heading towards agoraphobia. I have zero friends because I am scared to lose. To be shattered again. My life is only going to work part time as a nurse so that I don't cause us to lose our house. I have 4 kids who depend on me and other than supporting them financially, I'm failing them. I sit in my room alone with RUclips. My existence is really quite pathetic and literally just existing.

What I love about Mykie is that she really maintains a good balance between being candid but also being professional. I don't know about you guys, but I can't watch youtubers who are constantly calling people out and using names. I feel like it really distracts from the purpose of their channel, whether it be makeup or anything else. When Mykie doesn't tell us things I don't feel like it's because she's hiding things from us; it's just because she wants to be professional and keep the focus on her skills, and I greatly appreciate that.

I really liked what you said about anxiety. I have a bachelor's in psychology and a lot of what you talked about is true and relatable. It's funny because when you talked about breaking thought patterns, you basically explained the cognitive part of CBT, which is one of the most effective therapies.
Though, I do believe in medication, especially in combination with therapy. Not everyone can do it like you did. To anyone reading this with an anxiety issue (diagnosed disorder or otherwise), you're not alone and Mykie definitely showed it does not have to get the best of you.

When you were talking about your struggle with anxiety it really struck a chord with me. As a person who has dealt with crippling anxiety on top of being autistic(aspberger’s specifically), your feelings are exactly how I felt in the rock bottom moments in my life. I also loved how you pointed out that you struggled even after the face awards and hitting one million subscribers because some of the most anxious I have ever felt was after some of the most amazing things in my life have ever happened. Anxiety isn’t just something that “goes away” or gets better as long as you are successful. It’s about finding peace within yourself and overcoming all adversity and kicking ass! Thank you so much for telling your story! You are my hero and inspiration for so much in my life and I couldn’t be more honored to follow you on your journey! Couldn’t be more grateful for you and the art that you create!
Such a sweet comment. It's kind of amazing how relatable this sort of struggle is - unfortunately, in some ways but fortunately in others because I think knowing you're not alone helps. I thought I was alone when it happened which made it so much worse, and it took a while to realize a lot of people go through something very similar at some point.

For the people that are on medication for Mental Health and made a comment about taking their Rx. Mykie in no way made a statement she is against someone else taking it. She spoke for herself.

For the "make up look too scared to attempt" thing, perhaps you could get a friend to volunteer as a model? That way you could still have the experience of it and use your skill set, but without having to worry about the issues you raised about the configuration of the task
Absolutely everyone's choices about how they handle mental health issues is their and their doctors' business. I'm glad Mykie found what worked for her. Meditation and mindfulness in general is an amazing self care tool for everyone, whether you're struggling with mental health issues or mental illness or not. I do want to be an additional voice adding on to what Mykie said about it medication being a valid option for people. It's also ok if you need medication in order to be well, as is the case for many people with mental illness caused by chemical imbalance in the brain. For some people, it isn't needed/wanted and for some it can be a helpful tool. But there are also people who simply need medication to be able to function AND THAT'S OK, TOO.
In the end, the most important thing, no matter what you're dealing with, is that people have the resources to find what works best for them. Meditation and other types of complementary medicine have been clinically proven to help people. It doesn't have to be an either/or thing, either. I have bipolar disorder and I take medication to manage my illness. I probably will for the rest of my life. I also practice mindfulness, DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy), and CBT with my therapist.
Also, just as I shouldn't be shamed for taking needed medication, Mykie shouldn't be shamed for how she handles her mental health. She has the right to decide that medication isn't for her and telling people about her choice is not the same thing as telling other people what they should or shouldn't choose. You keep doing you, Mykie. Thanks for sharing this brave video.

i resonate with the part about your anxiety. I, too, dislike medication. Something my father was adamant about growing up that stuck with me. So one seeks alternative methods. I sought out meditation as a form of healing. Binary beats are amaaazing under headphones. I do some light stretching and that really helps quiet the mind. Also guided meditations became a thing during my pregnancy as the imbalance of hormones was really driving me to a depth of my mind I long thought I overcame, but clearly did not. What works for others won't necessarily work for all. But I too always try to educate my friends who struggle with depression or anxiety, that there are many options! Perspective is key and i'm always checking in with myself to make sure im looking from different vantage points and not getting lost in just one lens. The last two q&a's i watched i really feel like you give us such authenticity and thats huge!! you're seriously such an awesome woman. Keep doing you babe.

Her saying that she doesn't like antidepressants is so NOT a problem. This video is a Q&A about her, her experiences/opinions/view on things. She even said this was a personal preference which is 1000% okay for her to have because it's dealing with how she wanted to fix a mental problem she had. Not about anyone else. For herself. She totally knows that antidepressants can work for some people.
She even says she's not saying you shouldn't rely on a pill if you're in a similar situation. She knows it works for some, but didn't feel like it would work for her, personally.

Antidepressants do work for some people. I haven't got to her explaining this yet, but as someone who was on said medication, it did not work for me. It heightened everything, which made my mental state worse. I'm doing better but I still have days where it's hard. It's okay though, I'll get there.
Maybe I'm over sensitive and read too much into things. But just the way Mykie talks about what she was going through, how filming was and the way her voice cracks just the tiniest bit makes me feel so sad. I can't imagine what she was going through. I'm so glad she's feeling better now. This is such an inspiring video with genuine advice and opinions. And it just makes me respect Mykie (whom I will not name Lauren ever) so much more as a person and an artist and in everything fr.

I have an actual panic disorder. About two weeks before I turned 15 I was in a movie theater and durring the movie I had my first full blown panic attack and I ended up braking down in the woman's bathroom feeling like I was gunna die. About a month later i was out on meds and after a week of being in those meds I began feeling so freaking nauseous and like I was sick. And I realized it was from the meds. I stopped taking them and evn though the panic got worse it made me feel better. I also had to give up caffeine because it made me panicky and idk. Its been 5 months and I feel like I'm kinda in this cycle of being fine and then being really panicy. But one of the many things that I've found help me is watching youtube. And one of my favorite channels to watch to calm me down is you. Knowing someone else has felt these things, especially when its someone you admire. Just thank you for being open about it. It means more then you could ever know.
If you are interested, you can also look into alternative supplements like cbd oil. I’m not someone who can meditate and the prescribed meds made me feel exactly the same so I stopped taking them. My anxiety had gotten to the point where I started fainting and it was even worse because the attacks would happen most often when I was driving. It stemmed from relationship and home life, but I couldn’t control it snowballing out of control. I finally heard about cbd oil and did tons of research & I haven’t had an attack finally since December 2017. A place that has tons of information and even helps with reputable companies who do lab tests and everything for their products so you know you’re only putting the best and something pure in tour body, is “cbd oil users group” that’s the exact name of this group on Facebook that is truly amazing and might be able to help you. It was even better because it also in turn helped with my depression, and a lot of physical medical issues I have as well. I hope you’re able to find something that works for you!
FaithKomTrikru just watching this video today, saw your comment and felt like letting you know you are definitely not alone, they tried to put me into medication for it and also they were going to send me to a psychiatrist and i grabbed all the strength that was inside me and managed to control my panic attacks, and watching certain channels in youtube has been my “salvation”, i’m a hypochondriac and that’s what causes me anxiety, i currently only deal with anxiety and youtube has been so helpful... hang in there we,ve got this!

Also, you have lots of medication options. Ive tried 2 anxiety meds but at least 6 antidepressants. It takes the right combination
