I love your covers! This instrumental, the mixing, is mesmerising! If Fushigi Yuugi was ever remastered or rebooted as a 2010s show I would imagine the theme would be updated to this kind of sound. Since this work is truly beloved by many fans as well as the music... There are quite a few things that are concerning in the translation. 1. Suzaku is not a phoenix, nowhere close. It is the Vermillon Bird, one of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellation. Often described as a red bird that resembles a pheasant. 2. In the Japanese lyrics, "遠く響く ウォアイニー" is simply translated to "I hear a distant echo". This is quite crucial to since "ウォアイニー" means I love you in Mandarin Chinese, as this is a love message delivered from Tamahome to Miaka in the Anime. It is escpeially written in Mandarin Chinese instead of Japanese. 3. "(I hear distant echo) One that will lead to you I’ll follow, near and far (It calls me from long ago) I find I’m mesmerized By this other world in your eyes" ... This is a misinterpretaion with common mistakes when one attempts to translate Japanese to English. In Japanese, it is written as "(遠く響く ウォアイニー) あなたに導かれて (目覚めてゆく 魂) 光りだすもう1つの世界". When a singer has a beautiful voice, why ever tune it down this way? It is almost unnoticible to hear the emotion in the voice due to such reason. Since this is a cover, shall not comment on what atmosphere the artist means to give off, the music is done without the consideration of storytelling. This song is written for this anime and it is written carefully with the thoughts of the characters(especially Miaka) in this anime. In the original song, it starts with a strong "bang" sound imitating the Chinese gong(the Ancient Chinese world Miaka enters), next with the graduation of harmonised keyboard notes to show that something impactful is coming towards her... It is a unsettlingly quiet yet exciting verse until the guitar comes in right before the chorus. This choice represents a sudden change in Miaka's life and all these people she meets during her journey. During the chorus, the drumming is fairly quiet in comparison to the keyboard and the guitar, so that it gives enough excitement but not too much. The full version of the original song also has a transitional bridge with guitar solo and some sounds similar to a Chinese oboe... Where it truly unfolds the Ancient Chinese world to Miaka. I absolutely have no intentions to bash. Nonetheless, this song is written with the thoughts of someone with a selfless heart, it is exceedingly disheartening to see all the messages and the context are gone to nowhere in this English cover.
