Unironically the advent of radar based close range 20MM AA had a lot of OSINT nerds in the 80’s saying it was joever for helicopters. Shoking got ratioed by basement dwellers. F
And this is why helos are shit in Warno. Peak technology of the era yet a WW2 SPAA can immediately stun and kill at almost the same range as the helo can fire it's missiles (IRL akula/apache missiles should have 4x or more the range of any SPAA)
@@Fordo007 Sure, but not at the majority of ranges that modern rifles are effective. That's the point mavor101 is making. The Ka-50's maximum range with ATGMs is about 6-8km, depending on the missile used. The FK20-2 Zwilling would have a range of ~2km against low-flying aircraft. Thus, a Ka-50 should be able to safely hover outside the range of these guns, but the max range of ATGMs in Eugen Systems' games are fairly low (2-3km), so helicopters aren't able to perform as expected.
Range is part of the story; the other part is acquiring and identifying the target, which is why RTSs in general are poor simulators for actual combat.
The problem with the soviets in this campaign is how terrible the motorstrelki units with btr-60s are. It would help a lot if they had more bmp units, and konkurs
