I would like to express my gratitude for this tutorial. It was the first and only video I watched on the subject. Glad I did. I'm a complete novice when it comes to sewing. It took me quite some time to finish, but it was worth the effort. To anyone thinking of making the mask. Don't be discouraged about how small it is in your hands. When you're done, you will see that it fits great and covers what it should. My head is not small by the way.
The fact that the tutorial had NO WORDS yet was easier to follow than the ones with a voice... terrific. Already made 4!! Keep in mind, I had never sewn anything before trying this! Now I can officially say I know how to sew... basic stuff. Lol
Well, I like this one a lot, even though I sew like a five year old child. I have one cut out and ready to sew; I , also, put in a bit of nose wire, just by choice. Watching the video 3-4 times through helped a lot. I’m cutting up elderly scrubs for material. Whoever would think that non-sewers would pursue sewing? Thank you, and your nails are just lovely!
Also I've made about 60 masks using this template but I actually sew it with a sewing machine for speed and it's the best design I've found. And everyone I've made one for loves it too!
Easy to make and fits great. I've made several by these directions. I sew the long (unfolded) edge and then measure the 2" corners from that seam (not fabric edge). Also, I like to baste the sides before folding/pressing for the elastic. I machine sew the sides with the elastic already inside that seam laying flat (but be careful not to catch elastic when sewing). Thanks for sharing!
*** INSTRUCTIONS *** Cut a piece of fabric to the following dimensions: 12.6” x 9.5” (32 cm x 24 cm) fold the piece of fabric in half You will then need to mark each corner twice with the following dimensions: 2” (5 cm) - Also, make sure that the side that will eventually show is tucked on the inside. Once each corner is marked, you can now sew your sides (as well as the top of the mask) - When hand sewing, make sure you start your thread pointing down. Once sewn, you will then need to cut off the excess corners from each side. After that, you can now turn your mask to the wearable side through one of the open holes now use your iron to flatten the mask. You will then want to flip the bottom of the mask up and iron that to the following dimensions: 1.6” (4 cm). Flip the mask to the other side and repeat. Your mask should now look like a cute little crepe or burrito! Next you want to pinch the bottom of each end and iron it. Fold it over again and place your elastic band in and sew it up! If you can find the elastic online, it’s recommended to use two 10” (25 cm) strings. You mask is now complete! Don’t forget to place a coffee filter or paper towel inside of your mask! Hope this was helpful. ❤
Used your directions but made a filter pocket ..left opening in seam. Folded seam so that there were equal side in each side of seam and continued with the remainder of your direction. Turned out perfect. Thank you
After using four different mask patterns, this is by far the easiest and best fitting mask I’ve made. After making the first one, I made three changes. First I added a liner between the other two layers for extra protection. I have a small face, but this did not quite cover the sides of my face, so instead of 9.5 x 12.6 I did 11 x 12.6. I also added a dart at the chin area to make it more fitted. It only takes about 10 minutes to complete each mask. Tuck a shop towel or coffee filter inside the mask before you put it on.
In case you miss it like we did - her indication of sewing the open long side is subtle - it's not just sewing the corners. Otherwise solid - thank you!
Suggestion: For tutorials, use contrasting threat to the fabric, because the matching threat is too difficult to see clearly when trying to follow along. Thank you for this video!
This mask fits PERFECT ! Altho, I did add a pipe cleaner wire for the nose. No side face gap like with the 3 pleated one ! Thank you so much for sharing
This is great! I followed her steps and it's so easy and fits well. My husband really likes it. I had tried a couple of more complicated designs and they sewed up but were not as comfortable or well fit. Thank you!!!!!
Tam hi Tam! I made an easy facemask using this video. It is super easy and doesn’t need any sewing machine or brand new fabric. I made mine with an old washed tshirt. You can check out the video here: ruclips.net/video/9PdIxle_eJo/видео.html
Thanks for this great & easy video ! One tiiiiny tip for possible improvement: Put the pins through the bits you're going to cut off. No need for unnecessary holes :)
Thank you so much for a wonderful tutorial. I’ve just made my first two masks. I used an old brushed cotton sheet. I didn’t have any elastic so I linked four small elastic brands together on each side and they work a treat. I’m super pleased and will venture out tomorrow for stamps so I can post one to my friend who is vulnerable. Keep well and safe x
Kathy Pickens Hi Kathy! I made my facemask using the video below. I found it super easy. You can check it out if you want to: ruclips.net/video/9PdIxle_eJo/видео.html made my life easy !
Knocked out 20 of these masks last night, with some pattern adjustments. They fit great. No need for metal nose pieces, they conform nicely to the face. But please, DO NOT put pins in the middle of the fabric! Once you poke that hole, you’ve created a place for the virus to travel through. If you have to hold the pieces together then you sew, use paper clips or something other than pins.
Probably one of the best tutorials. I have several paper masks at home but they may not be enough with this quarantine. I need to make some of my own, gives me something to do to pass the time at home throughout the quarantine. Thank you!
I like the video but it didn't show how it fits on the person. It needs to be secure and closed in to all areas of the chin, mouth, nose and cheeks. Would just be nice to also see how it fits before I put in the work and it is not sufficient coverage.
Lisa Kwan I have made several of these masks and I personally find they fit very nicely around the face, especially over the nose. Stays in place, no need to sew in a nose strip like other masks. Hope this helps.
This one seems nice and easy, thanks. Where I am the recommendation is to use a different pattern cloth on each side so med. pros. can tell easily which side they had out. Good idea for general public also I guess!
The instructions weren't very clear and require a person to re-watch the video repeatedly (ie like noting which ends you're matching together - the long ends or the short ends). But, once I figured it out the masks came together quickly. I've tried multiple different patterns - filter pockets, adjustable straps, etc.- but this is the *most comfortable* mask out of them all. This is the pattern that I'm making to hand out to friends and family.
for the clip over the nose cut an aluminum can 3/4 inches wide 3 inches long. fold 3/4 thickness to 3/8 wide for extra strength. sew into "pocket" at bridge line. mine work great
@@annnee6818 Why do keep posting this reply? It appears to be polyester, such as a pillow case--not cotton, like a T-shirt. ... And I thought the point was to keep our droplets off of others, anyway. If everyone is wearing a mask then problem is solved, right?
Do you sew the "flaps" in the final part, or just showing that they're ironed. It actually works both ways. LOVE LOVE LOVE this. Your video was perfect for me.
I’ve been making masks for a month with the instructions for Deaconess Hospital. It takes me 10 mins to make a precut mask. No rulers, pink sharpies or ironing. I thought this might be easier but it’s awful. Check out The Deaconess video. It’s wonderful

Sei brava grazie
What dimensions did you use?
NVMD. I see it now
Hope Krempasky - I agree! Beginner sewer here, this was easy and fit great!!
If you get bored of wearing it you can turn it into a cod piece for a guy. Just make straps longer. ..Or for yourself to hold sanitary pad in place :)
It is useful
That looks like the easiest and fast made face mask that I've seen ......hand sewed too......Ill be trying this pattern

If we could also have these instructions printed out, they would be easier to follow.

Does it fit most adult sizes?
I have a sewing machine but I don't really know how to use it, I keep getting the thread tangled. I can hand sew so I'm excited to try this out
This is much simpler than several that look the same way. Glad I ran across this!isnt one of the long edges still now sewn?

Looks easy but I will insert the nose wire inside at the beginning and leave an opening for inserting the filter.
Inserting a filter in this is useless, cotton doesn't filter a thing, it catches your cough droplets.
gg k a filter panel could easily be sewn at top and bottom long end.

Thank you😊.
It would be helpful to show how to add an insert for a filter. Great video.
A filter in a mask like this is supremely useless as cotton doesn't filter anything. This masks protects other people from your coughs, not you.
