    Those freestyle classics should have, could have, and would have been much bigger hits on the Billboard charts if they had actually been more available for purchase publicly. Even when "Temptation" by Corina came out and was being played like crazy on the radio, I remember having a hell of a time finding the single or album anywhere in our local record stores in Brooklyn.

    • @SouthernSkeptic
      @SouthernSkeptic 4 года назад +3

      Yeah, they never pushed Freestyle much in the mainstream.

    • @JukeboxBalowski
      @JukeboxBalowski 4 года назад +2

      @@SouthernSkeptic When I started hearing some freestyle hits on Z-100 and Power 95 in New York City, as well on Casey's Top 40, I really felt like it was going mainstream. However, it was still very hard to find freestyle in stores, and years later I look at the Billboard charts from those days and I realize that most of the great freestyle records barely even charted... except on the dance charts.

      Freestyle could have been a much bigger success if radio supported the artist ... freestyle is still alive in 2021 through internet radio ...

    • @JukeboxBalowski
      @JukeboxBalowski 3 года назад +3

      @@ExoticLove88 Radio stations in NYC and some other major cities did support it, but on a national level it never got much attention from most radio stations. But the lack of availability in stores was also a major problem. It's pretty hard for a song to hit the charts if you can't find any stores that have the records even if you like it and want to buy it. There are many songs I heard on Hot 97 and wanted to buy, but I couldn't find any stores that carried them on vinyl or cassette. (Many didn't even come out on cassette). So very often I just ended up taping them off the radio.
