I'm glad this author at least used the term "liminal" about 70% correctly, which is way more than most people these days (people consistently confuse the concept of kenopsia--the eerie and uncanny feeling evoked by spaces created to be populated by humans when they are deserted--with liminality--which literally just means "transitional", pretty much--even though they're not even inherently related)
