Jock was a Masterchef & a judge on Master chef Australia. For those who are suggesting this was drugs or suicide, please don't assume, stick to the facts. Jock was found in his Motel room, the cause of death was natural causes, that's the report we heard & the only one we have to go by. Jock was obviously much loved by his family, friends & many of us who watched him on every Master chef episode. Gone far too young, so sad. R.I.P. Jock.

Hi Nick, a Very heartfelt tribute. The bagpipes are so personal. Sorry for the loss of your father too. He must have been pretty young in todays standards. You’re so right, death feels so foreign, we shake our heads in disbelief. I’ve come to believe it’s because we have been created with that beautiful memory deep in our souls, we have eternity in our hearts. We just did a quick singing short, a tribute to Tony Bennett if you’d like to check it out. Have a great night! 🎵💜 Dawn

Being Scottish gives you a way of life and feelings. Clans are still important, mine has a deep history. We say we are as Scottish as a squre sausage blood and bone. The square sausage is called a Lorn sausage we have them for breakfast. The blood and bone is due to how much blood has been spilt and bone ground in to our land. SCOTLAND is in my DNA.

Jock made no secret of his struggle with depression and anxiety.
I had never watched Masterchef before, but watched the whole season after Jock passed away because my family has experienced anxiety and depression, and Jock has always been open with his struggles.
After quitting in the middle of season 2021 with his own mental health struggles, this year, Brent came back to win it.
    Fitting, but still sad.

    Song
    Loch Lomond
    HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

At the time in Scottish history when "Loch Lomond" was a new song, the United Kingdom (which united Scotland, England, and Wales) had already been formed. But the Highland Scots wanted a Scottish, not an English King to rule. Led by their Bonnie Prince Charlie (Prince Charles Edward Stuart) they attempted unsuccessfully to depose Britain's King George II. An army of 7,000 Highlanders were defeated on April 16, 1746 at the famous Battle of Culloden Moor.

It is this same battle that indirectly gives rise to this beautiful song. After the battle, many Scottish soldiers were imprisoned within England's Carlisle Castle, near the border of Scotland. "Loch Lomond" tells the story of two Scottish soldiers who were so imprisoned. One of them was to be executed, while the other was to be set free. According to Celtic legend if someone dies in a foreign land, his spirit will travel to his homeland by "the low road" - the route for the souls of the dead. In the song, the spirit of the dead soldier shall arrive first, while the living soldier will take the "high road" over the mountains, to arrive afterwards.

The song is from the point of view of the soldier who will be executed: When he sings, "ye'll tak' the high road and I'll tak' the low road" in effect he is saying that you will return alive, and I will return in spirit. He remembers his happy past, "By yon bonnie banks ... where me and my true love were ever wont to gae [accustomed to go]" and sadly accepts his death "the broken heart it ken nae [knows no] second Spring again."

The original folksong uses a six note scale; the seventh scale degree is absent from the melody. The lyric intertwines the sadness of the soldier's plight with images of Loch Lomond's stunning natural beauty.
bonnie means "attractive", "beloved", or "dear"

Hi TSR, I am sitting in my lounge room watching the Australian TV awards (The Logies) on free to air tv...so I was going through RUclips during the adverts. Not long after I came across this reaction to Jimmy singing for Jock...the "In Memoriam" section of the show came on. We lost a lot of talented performers this year including Olivia Newton John, Barry Humphries and Jock Zonfrillo. Australian singer Kate Miller Heidke performed a slow version of Olivia's Xanadu live. It was exquisite...it occurred to me you might like to hear her amazing voice. The Logies were broadcast Sunday 30th July on chanel 7. After that you may want to check out Kate's Eurovision performance. Oh....a news update on John Farnham...the day after the documentry "Finding the Voice" aired on free to air tv, John had 12 albums in the top 20 on iTunes! His music is truely timeless.

The song is called The Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond, not far from the peninsula known as the Mull of Kintyre.
The song is basically a bloke who died for king and country and takes the low road to heaven, also known as Scotland, and his true will take the high road, but they will never meet again on the banks of the lake, loch.

Jock left his wife and family in Italy to come to Australia to do Masterchef, the police were called to do a welfare check on him a few days before Masterchef was due to be aired (was already pre-recorded) and found him dead in his hotel room. Coroner's report not released yet, but the current news is he died of natural causes. No drugs or drug paraphernalia found in the room. It was assumed to be suicide at the time, but that's not been confirmed. He had treatment for bowel cancer a couple of years ago, but they say his death was totally unrelated.

I don’t mean to be rude - but you really shouldn’t interrupt a song to the departed. You wouldn’t interrupt a song of prayer You say you sing gospel - that shouldn’t be interrupted either. Let it play through once and be silent in respect to the dead. You can go through and react afterwards. I worry that the youth of today doesn’t get that.
