Making leather stitching awl with amaranth handle

Making leather stitching awl.
I've decided to make a small awl, that fits in my palm, useful for hand stitching leather. The blade is flat diamond shape. Handle wood is amaranth, really hard but with beautiful color.
Although a lot of thought went into this before I've started, this is my first attempt of tool making and there are few thing I'd do differently.

I liked this handle idea but I added a "Victorinox 93mm Marlin Spike Tool" type needle on the end, for sewing heavy fabrics and leather.

Czy sama końcówka szydła (grot) to jakiś specjalny materiał , czy odzysk z czegoś ? Końcówka była wcześniej hartowana ?

Ostrze było robione ze stali 50 HF, hartowane.
