You can search up DIY clear Gesso. Make a large batch for the price of a tube/bottle of Gesso from the store. Then you have a bonafide budget bible journaling set up!
it only took me six months to find a gesso cheap on ebay of all things i am so exited its coming in the mail . soon ya . i can do all the gesso acrylic ones you guys have shown me . thank you so much i was getting very sad and feeling so sorry for myself being stuck at home all day every day . i hate the tv and sport not for me . so now i am addicted to my bible stuff thanks so much
Love this series!!! I hope you will include more Bible Journaling On A Budget. Now I just need to find more... maybe planning, crafting, and cardmaking on a budget. :D I'm trying to work on using what I have before buying more stuff. I really need to work with what I have and knock down a bit on my impluse buys.
Lindsey, this is such a wonderful thing you are doing as far as journaling on a budget. It's very helpful! Per your suggestion, I downloaded a sample of this book and fell in love. I purchased it as an e-book and have been so blessed thus far. I even ordered a physical book for a young lady at my church who I know will be blessed by it. Thank you and God bless. Gorgeous page!!! on a budget :-0
An inexpensive alternative is Crayola Washable Dry Erase Markers. They don't bleed through in my ESV journaling bible & don't need any page prep whatsoever! However they aren't waterproof but they'd work like watercolors.
Loved the way you incorporate the Bible verse in your tutorial. I haven't tried this technique but will tomorrow. You make everything look so easy. Thank you for sharing.
This video just made me so happy! I hope you post more videos of pages done using crayola markers, this page looks so beautiful and professional, it's hard to believe it was just regular crayola markers. Definitely uplifting and motivating for those of us who can't afford the expensive markers/colored pencils/watercolors. Do you ever use the twistable crayola colored pencils? I have some but have never seen any videos where they are being used.
I have the twistables in my class box but I really don’t ever use colored pencils in my entries...I feel like they take too long to color in an image. I can quickly drop in some watercolor and have an image that is colored and pretty without a lot of effort.
Lindsey great video, I am on a budget and after watching this I now realize I don’t have to go out and spend $20+ on watercolor paints. And I can use my Crayola watercolors. Thank you and please make more of these budget friendly videos.
I just did this and I did everything the same except the crayola markers. I used the fatter ones and I used Dina Wakely gesso. I love this idea. which I said in an earlier post, but mine did not work out like yours. The marker kind of just sat on the page and rubbed off on my arm even after I dried with my heat tool. I used fixative spray without thinking and everything blead into everything else. Olease understand I love you Lindsey and this is the best idea ever but my process just didn't work out the greatest.
Most of the mediums I use (like in this video) still allow the text to be seen through them but I don’t use these Bibles for studying. I have Bibles that study/read from and ones that are for art/prayer journaling.
I prefer the Art Basics Clear Gesso which you can find at Michaels or order online. You want to be sure it says "clear" and I wouldn't suggest mod podge because it can become tacky and stick your pages together. I was one of the gals who raved over your last budget video. I love this. THANK YOU! I have lots of supplies which I've collected over the last year of Bible Journaling; however, I purchased them on sale. When I share this ministry with others, the cost is intimidating so I really rely on videos like this when sharing. For your next budget tip can you use left over greeting cards, printed paper, magazines, or any kind of paper you have around the house, as well as any other simple supplies such as acrylic paint, colored pencils and any other budget friendly supplies? Thank you.
Helloooo🤗finally I found you! new subie, thx so much for your video, I can't afford to buy some of the stuff to do Bible Journaling. But thx to you I can now use my Crayola 😜 take care and God bless you sister big bisous doux 😘🧁😘🍬😘🍫😘✝️💜
Typically yes, unless you use very dark colors or opaque paint. I do have a separate Bible that I read and study from so I’m not too concerned with words sometimes being covered but you can do it however suits you.
weird question: I noticed on one of your old videos you used what looked like brown wax paper as a craft mat- what do you use? I've been looking for a good option for protecting my work space without breaking the bank! Thank you!!
I haven’t been doing as much journaling in my Bible lately and have been creating other ways and focusing on the study time. It’s extremely difficult for me to film or even create with my kids home 24/7 due to the pandemic. I try not to Bible journal just for the sake of creating content as that is not the point of it for me but I hope to share more videos when I can.

I really like this budget series. I can't afford high end products, so I hope you will continue these. Ty!
Amen to that 👍!

I love that you are finding ways to encourage all of us on our Bible journaling journey! Beautiful entry!

Make sure they are all 3: Crayola + Washable + Dry Erase. Not sure if other types would work the same.

I love these videos. Thanks Lindsey. I just have one question, do you have like a rugh texture on paper when you use clear gesso?
I love it. Amazing thank you for sharing I'm new to journaling.
Love that you did this! I have many products and am wanting to use them. You just gave me so much inspiration!!

Lindsey, thanks for sharing this great tip with us!! 👍 I have these Crayola markers definitely have go try this!!!
Another easy tip for us! Thank you, Lindsey.

Hmm I wonder if the larger markers are too juicy and just lay down too much ink and so it has a hard time drying maybe 🤔
How can you read through the coloring. Do you only use this Bible for the one time.
Most of the mediums I use (like in this video) still allow the text to be seen through them but I don’t use these Bibles for studying. I have Bibles that study/read from and ones that are for art/prayer journaling.
Omg thank you! I’m out to get some gesso. Where can I get it? I’ve never heard of it... new to bible journaling. Is it sorta of like mod podge?

Love those fun flowers 💐
Excellent video I think also would be great for kids journaling if we apply gesso ourselves as parents great job🤗
Soft pastels would look nice.
Beautiful page and I would have been afraid to use crayola markers even with gesso so it was educational to boot
It doesn't look like the page wrinkled as much with these as it does with water color. Would you say that's true?

I’ll see what I can come up with 😉
Thank you.
I love this idea...thanks Lindsey
So beautiful!!!!
Thank you for the budget friendly ideas!
You have beautiful handwriting.
I love these markers supertip crayola bleed through actually don't bother me ....and im opening up in my bible journaling
TFS!! Had no idea I could use these!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️

Tuesday Morning carries American Craft Precision Pens in a 5 pack for only $3.99 or perhaps $4.99.
love this! just a question.. is the clear gesso absolutely necessary to stop bleeding??
When you using markers like this it is necessary. If you use more expensive markers, like Faber Castell, you don’t need gesso.
Loved it!!
SMOOSHING WITH CRAYOLA?!?!?!? BRILLIANT!!
So pretty!
Fabulous tutorial
Sure wish I had known this sooner!!! Great video!!! Thank you!
Lettering is so nice 💕 beautiful..... I am reading You are Loved -Bible study of 1st John 😊 Susan.
Your lettering looks great!
Love this, budget friendly!!!!
Tfs. This is a must try!
Adorable page! Love it :)
I've watched a couple of bible journaling videos, but I've never done it myself. Can you still read the words through the paint/markers?
Typically yes, unless you use very dark colors or opaque paint. I do have a separate Bible that I read and study from so I’m not too concerned with words sometimes being covered but you can do it however suits you.
Hi Lindsey! Thank you for making this video! I just subscribed to your channel.
Yay! Welcome to the party :)
weird question: I noticed on one of your old videos you used what looked like brown wax paper as a craft mat- what do you use? I've been looking for a good option for protecting my work space without breaking the bank! Thank you!!
That is a Ranger NonStick craft mat 😉
Do you think it would be ok if I get a different clear gesso ?💞
Yup just make sure it’s clear. Some are more gritty and some are smooth so that would be the only difference
Beautiful! How long did this entry take to complete in real time?
Probably less than 30 minutes if I wasn’t filming.
Do I use a regular blow dryer.
You can...it just blows more forcefully and not as hot so while it would work for drying gesso it isn’t the best for other techniques.
Awesome! :D Thanks for this!
Really pretty!
this is Fantastic. thank you.
Lovely!
Can you read through thebmarkers
Yup!
Linsey are you still doing UTube Bible Journaling?
I haven’t been doing as much journaling in my Bible lately and have been creating other ways and focusing on the study time. It’s extremely difficult for me to film or even create with my kids home 24/7 due to the pandemic. I try not to Bible journal just for the sake of creating content as that is not the point of it for me but I hope to share more videos when I can.
Do you apply Gesso after you have finished drawing on a page to seal it?
Nope, I’ve never sealed any of my pages. I imagine you’d need to if you used something like chalk or pastels but I don’t work with those mediums.
thank you
Awesome! !!
Can we use modge podge instead of gesso?
I wouldn’t, Mod Podge can become sticky in some climates and would cause your pages to stick together. Some people do use it but I wouldn’t risk it.
Really great idea! Did you teach yourself how to letter?
I’ve watched a lot of videos and just practiced a bunch 😉
