      No problem! It's the kind of thing I would look for if I were researching an instrument before buying it. Glad you found it it helpful!

    I don’t know if this might be helpful, but I personally detest the sound of round-wound acoustic strings on a fretless and I believe that a lot of that weird sound you describe comes from that. I found way more pleasant to use conventional half flat wound or full flat wound strings for electric basses. D’addario is a general good pick for those but also the Labella are fine

      I actually did put some Chromes on it and the sound was very nice. I used them on all the videos in my "Covers" playlist. I swapped them out for Elixir rounds a particular sound on my song "Elevated" and did a comparison video when I made the switch. I'm sure you already know which you prefer, but if you wanted to hear the difference on this particular bass, here you go: ruclips.net/video/9JMYRVhh0-g/видео.htmlsi=GpRikd60yLb4GE2N

      the problem you describe is more pronounced with new strings, over time the phosphor round wounds will deliver a very pleasing sound its just not as immediate as other strings 😊

      I did my research, a blue tongue skunk! This is the best ad for this Harley Benton bass. The influencer skunk should be payed.

      Don't worry, the blue tongue skink is well compensated. I am his man-servant. Glad you appreciated him! Also, good job on the ID!

    I'm geberally not a fan of acoustic bass guitars, but you make it sound good!
    Particularly a fan of the riff you played with a pick. I'm going to habe to check out the song

      Thanks! The pick stuff was from my band Arkansas Dogjaw. Those songs are on streaming platforms and there is a music video for "Ki to Life" on RUclips. I also use this bass a lot on my music videos on this channel. Enjoy!

    probably the best buy ABG for the price, personally not a massive fan of the HB 5 string variant as you need arms like an orangutan however the 4 string variant with it's new funky medium scale is very acceptable. I have the HB fretless and noticed you can pull out a decent practice volume with a plectrum. As you say it's a good practice axe, it will hold its own with a single guitar played at moderate volume. The electrics are ok but for the price its really hard to fault this ABG. I've never liked the head stock, its boring and needs a proper work over but other than that well worth having one for those open mic nights 👍

    • @dannyrio
      @dannyrio  2 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for the thoughts! I didn't realize that the 4 string had the 32" scale until you mentioned it. This bass is pretty huge, but I'll make the sacrifice to have the low range on that extra 5th string.

    I ordered Dunlop flats for mine just moments after purchasing it online.
    The stock round-wounds that came on it were awful anyway.

    • @dannyrio
      @dannyrio  6 месяцев назад +1

      Definitely a good call to replace the stock strings. How do the Dunlops sound on it?

    • @TenFalconsMusic
      @TenFalconsMusic 6 месяцев назад +1

      @DannyRio
      The Dunlops strings sound amazing. Tuned D G C & F.
      The closest resemblance to my upright, without needing a van to get to gigs.
      Unfortunately, the 4 string HBs (like mine) are only 32" scale. Whereas your 5 string is a full 34.

      Nice. I generally tune down to match my acoustic guitar as well.

    Great review. I’m considering getting this but as more of a fretless acoustic 5 string guitar since I don’t see any other options. Do you think the strings could be swapped for regular guitar ones, particularly the high e?

    • @dannyrio
      @dannyrio  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks! Unfortunately, I don't think it would work well in standard guitar tuning. The scale length on a standard 6 string guitar is around 25.5". The scale length on this bass is 34". So, if you used regular guitar string and tuned them to standard guitar tuning, the tension would be extremely high. Also, the strings likely wouldn't be long enough to reach the tuning pegs and some of the ball ends would likely slip through the holes at the bridge, since some of the bass string are so thick. You might try ebay to find what you're looking for. I hope I interpretted your question correctly!

    What was the price?

    • @dannyrio
      @dannyrio  10 месяцев назад +1

      $153 + shipping. Shipping can be pretty expensive if you live far from Germany, so I recommend waiting until you are ready to purchase more than one item from Thomann. I talk more about that in this video: ruclips.net/video/exCV-NowcCs/видео.htmlsi=F96iaJPal1HepLS3

    sorry to say, but i was wondering if it s the bass that sounds so cheap or if you re a newbie frettless player...
    or both

    • @dannyrio

      As I said in the video, this was my first fretless. The video is also recorded on a cell phone, so it does not pick up the bass frequencies well.

      I can hear it. The fretless bass "mwah" plus the buzz from the roundwound strings gives it a bit of sitar character.

      @joannalewis5279 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@dannyrio I mean if you have an application for it that's fine but why is this better than a normal fretless because there are lots of disadvantages of acoustic bases in general

    • @dannyrio
      @dannyrio  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@joannalewis5279 I've actually used the instrument quite extensively for recording since I purchased it (examples available throughout my Covers playlist on this channel) . The purpose was to blend with acoustic guitar in a mix. The audio quality on this video is not great, so I wouldn't completely judge the sound based on this video. One downside is that the body is HUGE lol
