what i like: - explanation of symbols, annotations, elevations - detail-oriented look into sections of the plan, while explaining the materials involved and their dimensions or relations to other materials - well paced speed during explanation - no overusage of mouse movements.. your composure draws my attention keep it up
Great that knowledgeable people share there thoughts, unlike some that seem to keep everything a secret. people learn from others. Thanks for taking the time to make a great video.
Hay man thanks for the video. I am a foreman for a structural welding company. I can read drawings enough to get by but as more and more responsibilities are put on me the more I need to know. Your video is great. Can you make more maybe going more into depth
Thank you! I'm a structural engineering student, and I learned a lot from this video. One observation: it is interesting that they use a W12X50 steel beam (min 31:28) on the upper left section of the building, but a W21X50 steel beam in the central area (min 31:50) of the building, even though they seem to be similar spans. Maybe it is related to the fact that the first one is supporting 11 7/8" deep TJIs with a lower tributary area, while the second one is supporting 13.5" deep Glulams with more tributary area? Even though the beams have the same linear weight, the moment of inertia (resistance of cross section shape to bending) of the WX21X50 is about 2.5 times higher than the moment of inertia for the W12X50, meaning the later would have about 2.5 times more deflection under identical loading conditions. It's interesting to think about why the beams are specified differently.
Great video I'm looking to become an assistant superintendent for structural building knowing plans are a necessity. Your video is amazing thanks for your time and information.
Thanks for your time, really enjoyed it. Will you please go over more complex plans (high rise, bridge, dam and underground etc)?.My approach is the same as well take it all in over a couple of beers then plan it out.
Check out the "CISC - Handbook of Steel Construction". The drawing details include specifications for the standardized steel structural members which can be found in the book.

Could you post something about making forms for concrete construction, like I'm in the forms "mold" shop for Stresscon a smaller part of Encom. And I've never done this stuff before I really want to be able to look at the blueprints and just know what I'm looking at, what to do, what's next.. Idk, awesome video though will subscribe, thanks bro.
I wish videos like this would / could post a *.pdf of the plans. I understand why they can't, but there aren't a lot of good copys of plans floating around to dig through on learn on.
Interesting that the structural guy has decided to leave all the grid lines and dimensions to Arch. Personally, I think structural dwgs are far more important when it comes to preparing shop drawings. We would never do that in our office for a project of that scale.
Good question. It is just convention. Architects show things within the floor space, while structural engineers think of the floor as everything supporting the floor space.
It is very helpful, you are really professional engineer. I would like one request if you can mentione in details codes used in drawings which will help me to read more easy. I did subscribe your chanal, when ever you will update video I will get notification.
Hi John..it will be possible to get a copy of the structural drawing from you. was it right the schedule of such detail is can be found in contract drawing? How to find the specific requirements that will be transfer to shop drawing..hope you can help thanks..

This has been more than helpful for me as a fresh civil engineer graduate, much appreciated!
Hi
Mohammed Abukhamis this is drawn by an architecture or by structural engineer??
Please tell us is this for structural engineering?
just don’t be a pompous suit like this guy is hiding behind as someone who teaches to the yuppies beneath him
Thank you for sharing. I’ve been a GC since 2003 mostly small up-fits and am now a commercial building inspector. Great information, thanks again.
it comes natural to you because you've been doing it so long. Practice makes perfect here.
LOL!!!! I throught the same thing. lol
Thanks for sharing, the world need people like you.
Thank you for making this video. I'm studying for my Reinforced Concrete plans test and you cleared up many questions I had. thanks.
Great that knowledgeable people share there thoughts, unlike some that seem to keep everything a secret. people learn from others. Thanks for taking the time to make a great video.
Flying High this is drawn by an architecture or by structural engineer??
Thank you so much for sharing. I am very new at reading structural drawings. I feel like I just took a big step forward. Thanks again.

Thanks Mr John your overwhelming, skilful teaching is very instructive. please keep it up for complex buildings too!!!!!
Thank you so much for this video. This helped me as a building Surveyor Student.
Wow, this beautiful. Thanks so much. I will love see more contents from you....
Thanks mate I am a assistant quantity surveyor AKA bean counter and this was very informative keep up the good work!!
This video is super nice. Thanks for going through the details. Much helpful!
thank you for taking the time to simplify the plans...I am just a union mason..but I love referring to the drawings for myself...thanks
I like that by knowing this stuff you can actually picture the entire structure from the ground to roof. Go Lumberjacks 😊
As a New Inspector for Rebar etc... this is needed.
Great video I'm looking to become an assistant superintendent for structural building knowing plans are a necessity. Your video is amazing thanks for your time and information.
you were incredible, I am a new comer in AUS and this English description help me too much.

Thank you so much for the explanations. It was so helpful for me as a new in Architecture.
Thanks for your time, really enjoyed it. Will you please go over more complex plans (high rise, bridge, dam and underground etc)?.My approach is the same as well take it all in over a couple of beers then plan it out.
I'm from canada, idk if it will be different but can you do a video on structural steel? like more in depth with columns and beams?
Jelzouks hllm .hjlplon 🤔🤔🤔
Check out the "CISC - Handbook of Steel Construction". The drawing details include specifications for the standardized steel structural members which can be found in the book.
I'm very appreciate with this video.
Thanks a lot sir
Thank you for awesome video. It helped me a lot. Appreciate it.
one of the best videos out there thank you so much
Hi John thanks very much for sharing your knowledge. Please send or add a link of the program you are using to zoom part of the plans. thanks again

Very helpful. Thank you.
Very good info
Thanks have a wonderful day
Thank you John for the informative video. Is there any way I can obtain a set of the pdfs?
Interesting that the structural guy has decided to leave all the grid lines and dimensions to Arch. Personally, I think structural dwgs are far more important when it comes to preparing shop drawings. We would never do that in our office for a project of that scale.
It is a good lecture.
Great job, much appreciated, Thanks.
Very impressive, thank you sir!
Why do architects and engineers show headers and beams on a different floor than they are actually on?
Very useful and well done. *liked*

Nice! can you give us this PDF file? Thanks!
Nice video could you add a video about complete in detail estimating of one of foundation plan.
Hey! Thank you ! Awesome video
Very helpful video#infzone
that was really good. Thank you
Usually the dimensions are shown on the architectural dwg.
I'm a fresh CE graduate and have bo idea how to read complex structural plans so i'm here
Hello sir , please make videos on
Reading structural drawings 2 , 3 and more pls
Can you post list of things you will need from Structural Engineer? Such as
Foundation plan
Foundation details
Site demo & site Plan
I guess it depends on who 'you' are - a Builder, an Architect, an Owner. Each of these parties 'need' different things.
Great video! thanks!
beauty
Great Job!! Thank You!!
Thanks for sharing .
Hello master thank you for your video please can you leave the link to access the Pdf drawing.
