Jehovah’s Witnesses Dating Rules: What You Need to Know

- Jehovah’s Witnesses have a unique perspective on dating and marriage. They believe that dating is a step towards marriage and should be taken seriously. But one thing's for sure: it's a far cry from your typical rom-com. It's a love story with chaperones, strict rules, and a healthy dose of spiritual auditing.

When I was in the Jehovah's Witnesses as a teenager and I started dating another sister in the congregation we were pretty much told that we're going to have to get married because they're going together so even when we broke up at time to time Elders would talk to us and we'd be back together then once we got out we got married 12 years of hell then we got divorced
Gosh. This is exactly how they control lives. And destroy them.
@@RobinJacksonZA yep
Jehovah's Witnesses don't let teenagers date at all because they think that teenagers are too young to be dating and Jehovah's Witnesses view dating is when a person wants to select a marriage mate and they're ready for marriage
How can I have pre-marriage sex, if I do not want to marry?
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the biblical rules for dating and courtship.
Remember, the Bible is The Word of Jehovah God which no one can refute.
However, even though the biblical rules of dating are clearly outlined and reasoned for true Christians and worshippers of Jehovah, there could have been deeper discussions to understand why it's necessary to date someone with the intention of marriage, who shares your spiritual faith, abstain from sexual relations before marriage, and commit to staying with your spouse permanently, except for cases of sexual infidelity.
I may not have an issue with these 4 rules:
1. Date with the intention of marrying someone - to assess the person's suitability as a future spouse, not just a potential friend.
2. Date a person who shares your faith - seeking someone who respects your spiritual beliefs and engages in similar spiritual activities. This extends beyond someone within the faith to someone who values your faith even if they are not part of it, are studying it, raised in it, or baptized in it.
3. Abstain from sex before marriage - recognizing that sex is more than a physical act, creating a strong bond that can be hard to break. Giving in to sexual impulses may indicate a relationship based solely on physical intimacy, which can fade if expectations are not met. This principle should also apply even after marriage although scripturally allowed.
However, the last rule is challenging to accept. While I agree that marriage should be a permanent bond, especially when children are involved, I also believe that divorce for serious reasons beyond sexual infidelity should be considered. Minor issues in marriage are not sufficient reasons for divorce, especially when they are inconsequential.
I am reexamining the words of Jesus in Matthew 19:9. Did he intend that couples can only divorce in cases of sexual unfaithfulness, or was it meant as an example of a valid reason for divorce?
Jesus words undoubtedly remain evergreen, pure and genuine because he reflects His Father, Jehovah's personality. Therefore, the issue is the explanation and interpretation of the scripture.
As a PIMO, I found manipulating, emotion controlling parts of being a JW is utterly disgusting. Shame on me for being involved in this cult at young age. I wish I never met those awful people.
I am sorry you had to go through that experience. Do not blame yourself. You were young and impressionable. Take it one day at a time. You gave a community of like-minded people here who you can lean on and who understand what you are going through.
@@RobinJacksonZAThank you Robin, loved your video and your calm demeanor.
I remember that video the parents was concern about that guy and thier daughter dating, in the JW video they really never show balance of the men being a spiritual head and having a good job, I remember them showing this guy has an inactive JW who had had income but was not always there for her, has PIMO I see they do this to discourage looking for someone with financial security
I agree. Thanks for your comments.
Why is it "unique" ? It's exactly the same as 7th day adventists
Hmm I have a scenario:
My father was disfellowshipped for alcoholism in the 70's. My mother disfellowshipped in the 90's for simply straying away for too long after being baptized. While both disfellowshipped they got divorced (no sexual immorality happened, they just decided to split). My father died last year (2022) because of his alcoholism. The JW's took that golden opportunity to Love Bomb mom and she has now been reinstated.
Will she be allowed to date and get remarried?
Thank you for your comments and sharing your experience. My sincere condolences on the loss of your father. Yes, your mother will be allowed to date because of the death of your father.
The rules are the same for all Christians. No sex before marriage and if you are married no sex with another person other than your marriage mate. If you don't like the rules take it up with the one who made them, Jehovah God. If you break the rules as a member of the JW organization, it is possible you will be removed.
You just said it. If you break the rules of a man made organization.
@@RobinJacksonZA I did not use the term " If you break the rules of a man-made organization"
Your confirmation bias must be at work. I said Jehovah God is the one who made the rules not an earthly organization.
You've made an excellent point!

I may not have an issue with the first three rules:

what amazes me is people follow a 'old book' from a couple thousand years ago. how about a new loving reasonable book.
Absolutely. A book that condones slavery, incest, genocide, etc
How about no? The book has the word of the creator and is the true way to salvation. But you can always ignore it of your own free will and go to hell if you want, just don’t drag others with you
@mr.anderson3288 That's not very "Christian" of you. It is people like you that proves how hypocritical your religion is. Not very Christ-like are you now?!
