Hello from Oklahoma! Good Video! I'm an old man and want to share An old hobo trick for carrying water. A rum or whiskey bottle was used many times as a canteen. The old glass ones could be used to boil the water in with no ill effects, if you were careful. They were fairly easy to keep in your back pocket. I have an old marbles compass from my cub scout/ boy scout days of the 70's. I've had to trust my life with it a few times. It never let me down. A lighter was kept in the pockets along with some matches in a marbles waterproof match case. Thanks for the videos and the memories it jarred loose. God Bless!

Best opinion I've read. The basic kit is good. I'm old school too. Metal army surplus canteen cup and canteen on a Paracord shoulder sling. Neck knife and stuff is also good. I back up with ferro rod, paint handle of my knife blaze orange(Mora #2). Use a pocket kit from mints, holds a few goodies like birthday candle, fish hooks, fish like wrapped around a pencil, sinkers taped to bottom, mirror

Good video! I like videos that are taken from the books we all love.
IMO- I like the neck knife concept. I like carrying 550 cord separate from my pack/haversack. So the braided lanyard is 👍. I’m keeping my lighter in my pocket always. I have about a foot of gorilla tape on my lighter but it’s there for everything accept lighting fires. 😂.

Interesting. I actually got Cody's book before any others. Got the knife, made the kit. Definitely an option for carry. Pretty cool. Thanks!!

Wazoo dude, load this all up with their stuff and it’s better.
I’m convinced if Cody used and tried Wazoo gear, he’d update all this

Great video, I like Cody's books. I am not a fan on taping things to knife sheaths as survival kits. I'd much rather have a tin or pouch stuffed into a pocket rather than all the weight on one side of my belt. I also own so many knives that I can't see myself doing this to every knife I own.

Not a bad little setup. Condom's are definitely old school for water containment. I always thought it was funny when my dad told me that as a kid. What was the brand of that button compass? I couldn't quite hear the name. You need to make your way to Eastern NC sometime and hang out with Bang Bang and I!

You can replace some or all of the paracord with fire cord to add a bit of tinder to the kit.

If you don't like the rattle from the whisle and light couldn't you just tape them to the sheath as well till you needed them?

Wondered why people don't use a duck call lanyard necklace, they have multiple loops so can attach gear to different spots so less likely to make noise.

The problem with condoms is once you put water in them they immediately begin to deteriorate and soon break especially with water purification chemicals added.

I have never been a fan of the condom water pouch myself so I now use bags specifically designed for compactness in my kits.

I always have a decent length of cordage tightly wrapped with tape and pocket carried daily. IMO if your rope or cordage isn't immediately useable without unraveling
it's nearly useless. It's like the
    paracord gun slings and pants
belts. What would you do for
a gun sling or pants belt after
you unravel it for another purpose? Make one out of
    vines ? 😂

Good point,i guess the idea behind is that it's a last resort.
But just like you,i always have extra paracord with me,a extra coil of rope in my pocket weight almost nothing.

Jake? Mora Classic is full tang? Don’t think so unless there is a new design. My understanding they are partial tang. I agree about the condom water carry. I think som zip lock freezer bags can be effective. By the way am I a Mora fan? You bet. Keep up the good work.

Swap the condom for an oven roasting bag. Only plastic bag , that I know, which can be placed on open flame for disinfecting water in addition to the tabs.

The Wazoo waterbags fold up to same size as a condom and are rated at 400 degrees so you can boil water over a fire if you run out of purification tabs.

I'm not a big fan of neck knifes, I've tried them, I can understand the utility but I still can't stand that dangling on my neck, I rather have all that kit in my pockets 😊

  • @richardhenry1969

I understand the setup I’m just no sold on the water in the condom. Have you ever tried to put water in one in a river? Not worth the work. It’s better to carry a water bottle with a filter. Survival kits can get very unrealistic.
I’m a veteran of the army my last 3 years was part of Ranger school. I was also a Boy Scout till I was 18. So I’m very experienced in survival an outdoor activity.
My whole point being is these kits act like you suddenly are in the middle of nowhere with no gear. When exactly would that happen but you have your survival kit on.
I like to have a water bottle kit with a cup and a stove. I carry it whenever I go hiking or fishing.
Not to take anything away from what you put together. Please believe I’ve made many kits over the years. Never used one. I believe it’s best to find good gear use it . Then when something happens it won’t matter because your just doing what you always do. Survival is for the unprepared.
I listened to a guy who called for rescue because he ran out of gas for his stove. Because of that he couldn’t boil water and he told them he didn’t have food. Also because without water he couldn’t eat them. It never crossed his mind to build a fire. I will say a fire would be a little hard for him because it was snow everywhere but it’s not anything every Scout does at 11 years old.
Survival isn’t just gear it’s mostly common sense. Many Ultra light hiker’s are exactly like that guy. I did a bunch of research into survival situations how they happened and why some made it. Training and the famous don’t panic. Also the media claims people have skills when you really research it’s usually not real survival skills just experience hiking or camping.
Sorry for the very long story an opinion. This is one of my passions. I don’t want anyone to die because of lack of common sense.
