    Hymn NEH 331
    all: Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
    the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.
    When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
    Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
    all: Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
    earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away.
    Change and decay in all around I see.
    O thou who changes not, abide with me.
    choir: I need your presence every passing hour.
    What but your grace can foil the tempter's power?
    Who like thyself my guide and stay can be?
    Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me.
    all: I fear no foe with thee at hand to bless,
    ills have weight, and tears no bitterness.
    Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
    I triumph still, if thou abide with me.
    all: Hold now thy cross before my closing eyes.
    Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
    Heaven's morning breaks and earth's vain shadows flee;
    in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

    Wonderful performance. May I know why some choristers wore in red whereas most of them in white? Happy Easter to all. The boy chorister on the far right is so tall.

    • @TheKampenBoysChoir
      @TheKampenBoysChoir  5 лет назад +5

      The seven boys in the (small) front rows (three at the left and four at the right) are still in training. They are allowed to sing a small part of the music together with the choir. They only wear their red cassock. The few boys in the same row as the other boys are further in their training; we call them probationers (probs). They are allowed to sing along a great(er) part of the music. Once they have passed their audition (the test) they will become a full chorister and will then receive their white surplice, just as the other boys and the men.
      The tall boy on the far right was singing his last choral evensong as a boy chorister. He now joins the countertenors on the back row.

    The choir and organ sound great.
    Awful statues on the organ ! Better without.
    My least favourite hymn. Victorian slush. But then, as a retired vicar, I've heard it over-often. My next of kin know that I will return as a ghost and kick the church candles over if it's chosen for my funeral.

      @@jamesupton4996 there are a number:
      My God, I love thee not because I hope for heaven thereby (tune: St Francis Xavier)
      In our day of thanksgiving (tune: St Catherine's Court)
      Jerusalem the golden
      Psalm 121 (Walford Davies chant)
      And if there's a reasonable choir with a good countertenor or tenor: Mr Valiant-for-Truth by RV Williams.
      Organ music before: anything by Howells.

      The day they gavest
