Humans focus on word structure and vocals first, body language second and then the facial expression third, dogs on the other hand do facial expressions first, body language second then vocals third, just stand in a mirror and move fir one solid minute as much as you can while changing facial expression, you can see why its a way more accurate way to read people because our faces and bodies move, thats why dogs know they can get away with certain behaviours and know when they cant just by looking at you.
Whipped Into Shape is so impressive to me... like I can't even talk if I'm exercising that hard let alone sing on pitch with proper tone and breath support
I'm doing Legally blonde right now and our choreographer took a lot of choreo straight from this including whipped into shape. I was sore for four days after learning it
So I remember I read an article that said before they could audition or even be considered for the part, they had to audition their song while running on a treadmill. Then sing “whipped into shape” while on the treadmill then jump roping. It’s one of the most intense show numbers in almost any shows
He didn’t hit on the intern he hit on a girl who just happened to used to be an intern at a firm he worked with and she liked him back! If there is a perfect couple this one def qualifies! Omigod you guys!!!!
I'm adding this comment because I haven't seen it yet: the woman who plays Brooke Windham is amazing. She can jump rope and sing without even so much as a voice crack. That is insane athleticism.
weebojeebo the thing about warner is that if he didn’t do it she wouldn’t be the best version of herself and also he’s sorta right breaking up with Elle.
@@statkid7156 yeah but he still did bad things, even if he was the reason she is the best she is, he still hurt her and caused her pain, she was just able to grow from the pain. Others might have not been able too, it was just because she had positive and great people around her and because she herself is strong.
HOOMAN _ Ashy true but if he had married her the night she thought he would she would be the same.... so breaking up with her was the best thing even if it caused her pain. Great rewards come after pain
@@statkid7156 but he still hurt her. He still hurt her and was a jerk the whole time. He proposed to her because he lost Vivian and because she was a serious person, he proposed to her because she became what he wanted. The fact is, he hurt her and was terrible. He was still a bad person.
Emmett is SO underrated. He didn’t want to help Elle so he could get in her pants or because he thought she was pretty- he did it because he saw himself in her and wanted to see her grow. Although this does lead into a romance he wasn’t driven by a crush, and I think that’s very charming.
Saw himself in her😏 Kidding. I actually think of this as relationship goals. Based on mutual respect and getting to first know each other with attraction growing and not looking down on each other. As opposed to fireworks when you first see someone and having an idealized version of someone in your head but then you get to know them and of course they don't live up to those expectations
it's really heartwarming that when elle says she wants to go to law school, none of her sisters discourage her!!! kate just makes sure she knows how hard it's going to be, but she never once implies that elle won't be able to do it or that it's a bad or weird idea. they're all purely supportive :')
Legally Blonde (movie or musical) is filled with women that are not only good to each other but also encourage, support and try to help others when they have doubt in themselves... hell, in the movie it's another Judge, a woman, who tells her to stay and fight. I wish real women were so supportive and not only want other women to succeed but actually help them too.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the fact that Vivian sees the assault and supports Elle instead of assuming immediately that she's trying to sleep her way to the top is *such a good change* from the movie.
They have to change because in the salon scene from the movie, Professor Stromwell was the one assuring her to stay and fight for Brooke. We don't have her in the musical so using Vivian was clever.
I've always said the musical is better at portrait woman than the movie. Vivian is a true superior woman who works hard to become a lawyer and dare to admit it when she was wrong about Ell. Unlike the movie, she was faint and timid, there is no character development
I love that the Delta Nu girls aren’t your stereotypical mean girls and are actually very supportive of Elle every step of the way. Women supporting women is so wholesome and I love that Legally Blonde includes this, it really shows the amazing bond that Elle has with her friends.
this is so truee omg i felt like while i was watching this for the first time i was almost waiting for some sort of drama to happen with the girls bc that’s what we get in every other show/movie ever lol it was refreshing that it was girls supporting girls the whole way through
@@dariyah789”Still in your hour of need let it be understood no man can supersede our sacred bond of sisterhood” - I’m not saying the sorority is perfect and a lot of them have the expectation of being trophy wives but that doesn’t dismiss the sisterhood/women supporting women aspect of the story
So true. I downloaded "there right there" as an mp3 file cuz I liked it, but I downloaded the live version and not the studio because the audience's reactions are just perfect.
Pffft I was rewatching this and looked in the comments to see this got over 1k likes, and said “oh my god!” In the most delta nu way possible and burst out laughing. Then remembered it’s 1am and my parents might’ve heard. Oop-
Whoever wrote the line "she was something to see there, I'm just happy I could be there" deserves a bonus because it's so?? Acknowledging and appreciating her accomplishments without taking all the credit? Where is my Emmett Forest
i've heard people say how in the movie Emmett didn't help her as much with the studying and it was more of a message how she got good by herself as if in the musical he helped her more to become good but I actually like how he is there for her, as if she just needed a little push
I also like at the end when Warren walks up to her and he just says ‘I’ll see you later’. No trying to pull her away or ultimatum, just trust and agency.
i totally get you i like this line too, and the expression on Emmett's face shows how he was proud of her and happy for her and admire her, not as a man but as a true friend
@@spntageous5249I actually bring this up every time introduce my friends to this musical but I also counteract it by mentioning that it gives Emmett a bigger role and thus makes me more invested in their relationship since he’s there for her every step of the way. I also think that anyone who’s tutored someone would probably all say that it would be meaningless if the student didn’t have it in them to begin with so I personally just see it as him pushing her to rise above the expectations that her peers have set for her
I like how in the musical the writers chose to really develop Emmet and Elle's relationship as opposed to the movie where they just kinda throw it at ya.
I mean I do understand that in the movie "she can do it herself" but then their relationship would've been almost pointless other than attraction. the romantic development in this musical is crazy (in the bestest way possible) and im here for all of it. DETAILS ARE SO SMALL BUT DAMN EACH OF THEM ARE JUST AAAHHH! you can really see the denial at first and the gosh sorry im really overwhelmed, it's 3am
Yeah - in the movie i was secretly directing an Elle/Vivian enemies to lovers plot in my head the whole time, but in the musical I don't really feel the meed because I feel like Elle amd Warner have a chemistry here that I wasn't feeling before
I think it is so sweet that Elle was initially waiting for Warner to propose to her. Like, she wanted that big, romantic gesture. But SHE is the one who proposes to Emmett. That genuinely is one of my favorite things about this musical.
Im from the haikyuu!! anime fandom and Gay or European lead me to watching this bc I saw it in a meme animation. The song was so good I just can't help myself ;u;
My favorite part about this musical is that Emmett and Elle don’t just randomly fall in love with each other at the end but they start off not really caring for each other then slowly becoming friends then falling in love with each other and I absolutely love that
yeah this is better than the movie in that Emmett and Paulette both have character arcs. In the movie they're just there as props and brought in as needed.
It's been YEARS but Emmett's "Did you actually think I was going to let you get away?" STILL gives me butterflies. Where is my smart and kind boyfriend?
@@deadaccount2212 Especially when she's,,, I think 22? Not sure? Which would make him 25, which isn't a big age gap at all. Like, a 12 year old and a 15 year old? Yeah, that's weird. But once you're both consenting adults, the maturity level pretty much evens out for a 3 year gap.
The symbolism in Elle's wardrobe is absolutely amazing. Her clothes and style changes and becomes darker as the play progresses. The only element left of herself would be a barely visible scrunchy and a super pale pink button-down shirt when getting the alibi. The scrunchy is only visible when she interacts with brooke. Another example would be when she is preparing to leave. There isn't a pink clothing in site! I believe this represents the journey and changes she undergoes, as well as her mindset. She is in her dreamworld in the beginning, and as she goes trhough law school, she is forced to re-evaluate herself and adapt that law school mindset. Unfortunately, she begins to lose herself in the process. It isn't until she is reminded about who she really is that she finally comes out in her pink.
Gosh I love Legally Blonde It’s about being yourself non-apologetically and about how girls can be feminine and still powerful There’s this whole bunch of movies and books that portray the feminine girl as shallow and mean, and say that the only way you’re a valid girl is if you don’t care about clothes and makeup and the things portrait as “girly”. But legally blonde just take that premise and says “well screw that. Elle’s both a feminine, delicate girl and a powerful smart lawyer.” This is legit my favorite musical, it deserved better (like, some Tony nominations)
If I may add to this! I love how at first Vivian is the typical female competition but they end up being friends and lifting each other up!!!!!! Fuck!!!!!!!!!
AND Elle and Vivian stick together after Elle got sexually assaulted and came out on top AND Elle stuck to herself when Warner proposed to her at the end and kindly rejected him instead of making a big scene AND Emmett is unproblematic and is comfortable in his masculinity that he lets Elle take him shopping and loves that she proposed to him. Honestly the best characters
Can we talk about the set design? Portable, highly suggestive but still requiring just the right amount of audience imagination. Perfect looks for a high school, community, or regional theater to recreate or build upon. People really sleep on EVERY aspect of this musical. It's one of the more successful adaptations. It doesn't feel like I'm watching the movie, more like an alternative universe version of the original. I could watch either in a pinch and be more than satisfied.
There's one little thing that I think goes totally unnoticed so often and that is that Emmett hitches up his suit jacket to draw Nikos' attention to his butt when he says "and your boyfriend's name is?" and i LOVE that it's hilarious
I also think he did a great job! And it’s cool because he played Marvin in the og broadway falsettos and Christian borle ( aka emmet ) played Marvin in the 2016 revival!
I totally agree. He's magnetic in Blood In The Water and it works to paint a picture of who his character is - everyone in that room looks up to him but he is unapologetically a nasty piece of work
Legally Blonde is THAT feel good musical. The supportive, no toxic masculinity boyfriend. The relentlessly supportive delta nus. The stuck up mean girl turn angel. The beaten down hairstylist finally getting what she deserves. The abuser getting what HE deserves. AND THE PRESENTATION OF A GIRL WHO LEARNS TO BE THE BEST VERSION OF HERSELF WITHOUT COMPROMISING WHO SHE IS!! I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!
@leea yea, most likely. I doubt they were talking about Warner being an abuser because even though they weren't together, he was still kinda affectionate towards elle
when vivian started singing at the salon to tell elle not to give up i almost started crying, it’s so refreshing to see a character admit they were wrong and actually support another woman
completely decimates the “im not like other girls” idea of ‘conservative dressing/alt smart girl and stupid bimbo that’s always chosen instead of the other one’ and how much media has demonized traditional femininity.
there are two types of smart people. We have the book smart and the street smart. Book smart people are the smart people who acquired most of their intelligence through immense readings and studying. Street smart people are the smart people who are naturally and innately intelligent. Elle belonged to the street smart ones. In the movie and in the musical, we have seen the many times Elle shared her own intellectual perspective on life and in lawful cases. Elle is innately intelligent. The reason why most people don't realize her intelligence at first is because she's blonde and she's too girly. And we all know that it's a stereotype to be blonde, girl and "dumb". However, Elle pushed her intelligence further by mixing her street smart with book smart. That is why when she studied hard, we were able to witness more of her potential- the potential that society made her believe she was not capable of having. But she proved society wrong by showing everyone that being girly and being blonde does not automatically assume that you are not capable of being intellectual. This movie is very empowering to a lot of women in so many aspects.
Im literally OBSESSED with how energetic both the show and audience are. Its so fun and upbeat and alive! And you know it kinda makes Emmett stand out! Everyone is so over the top and bombastic, even Warner is an over the top douche, and Emmett is just....a guy. And its why he and Elle are so perfect together. Elle is so loud and bouncy and excitable and Emmett is there to bring her down to earth without asking her to change herself. He doesnt think Elle's hyper-femininity and high energy are issues, he just helps her focus her energy towards her studies. He never once doubted her potential. And Elle simply shines a light on how wonderful Emmett is instead of letting him hide in the background. They are the musical theater couple EVER
That was an AD LIB!! That was her ONLY song, and it was being "stolen" by the other singers, so she hit that note to take HER song back!! And it WORKED!!! She's my SPIRIT ANIMAL!! I love "I Will Prevail," too, but I LOVE "Mad Hatter!!" She is SO bad-ass!!!
When Emmett immediately says Calahand is wrong and theyll fight it... 😭😭 no question about if it really happened. No making Elle feel like she lead him on or did anything stupid. Every woman needs an Emmet!
Dude yes, it makes Warner even worse. They dated for like 3 years and he didn’t know her well enough to know she would never do that. Emmet knew her for like 6 months and knew immediately she would NEVER.
@@applejustice 1:42:30 It's right after Callahan hits on Elle and she returns distraught saying she doesn't fit in and she leaves. Emmett asks what's wrong. "He kiss me, then he fired me and he made it very clear that I don't belong here" "He's wrong! Hey! We fix it. We'll fight it"
@@donilemley5940 Warner was an asshole who used and toyed Elle during their relationship. During this time, he didn't even try to know who she is at all. He just thought of her as a silly, pretty girl to have fun with. He didn't know anything about who or what Elle is Emmett, on the other hand, really got to know her. He was interested in who Elle Woods really is. He fell in love with the real Elle. He knew that she is a damn smart, good girl with principles who would never sleep with a professor. Adding to the fact that Emmett sees Elle distraught and wanting to leave. He knows that it really happened. He knew from the beginning that something really bad had happened to his Elle
No pop star can do what the actress who played Brooke Wyndham did. A FULL WORKOUT WHILE SINGING PERFECTLY, then holding hard poses for a minute without ventilating and moving. Not even Beyoncé is that good
Ariana Grande is a former theater actress, I'm sure she could do it. And let's not exaggerate TOO much, the actress was off-key on all of those belts, which is understandable but still isn't "singing perfectly."
I really do appreciate how Vivian immediately takes Elle’s side once she sees Elle taken advantage of when she let her guard down, so Viv brings her guard up to protect her from the guilt, telling Warner to back off
Gonna keep replying to my own comment every time I notice something new with every watch: Brooke’s actress is the perfume lady in Like A Man! Mad at myself for not recognizing her voice or her amazing jawline!
In this vein, I love watching Vivian slowly realize how immature/annoying Warner really is. Vivian's character growth is something I LOVE about the musical over the movie
Fr I already watched this like 3 times but when he and Elle were alone my heart started to beat a little faster because I knew what was about to happen. Geez, Callahan is such a creep! Kudos to Michael Rupert for his excellent portrayal of him, though.
I didn’t know how much that detail meant to me until I witnessed it and now I realize that the ending would have less meaning if she wasn’t the one to propose
@@alittlebitd3ad I find it both endearing and funny when people don’t get the reference to Be More Chill (it’s also just nice to get hugs from strangers because, yes, I am in need of hugs)

Eh I'd agree in all but the music. Like it isn't bad, a lot of the songs are really funny, Whipped into Shape and What You Want are really good, but like it's all really generic pop music. It isn't bad by any means but it's just deeply mid imo
Luna Lovegood I notice it ever single time I ever watch this (which is more then I’d like to admit) and it’s so damn cute! I want an Emmett in my life, a dorky cute cinnamon roll who is always supportive!
This musical is iconic but the most impressive part is when the dog just jumps into the girls arms on cue. I never thought it was possible to train a dog so well
Did you read about the dogs backstory? He apparently was a shelter dog who was rescued and trained to be a performer. From what I read he was close to being put down but he was rescued just in time. He went on to have a successful acting career. His name was Chico and he died in March 2019. He brought so much joy to so many people and so many audiences!

If she took her first one cold with no prep, unfamiliarity with the test would have played an outsized factor in why her first score was so low. Because 134 is barely a pulse.
49:29 I LOVE THIS VERSION OF EMMETT SO MUCH THIS SCENE ALONE SIGNIFIES THAT HIM AND ELLE WERE MEANT TO BE, AND THAT HE SEES HER FOR MORE THAN HER BODY (INCLUDING LITERALLY COVERING IT AND ONLY SHOWING HER FACE) AND THROUGH THE WHOLE THING HE NEVER BELITTLES HER, AND HE CARES FOR HER (EVEN USING WHAT LITTLE MONEY HE HAS TO GET HER 2 IN ONE SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER SO SHE CAN SPEND TIME ON STUDYING) THIS MUSICAL GETS RELATIONSHIPS SO RIGHT, THEIR RELATIONSHIP DOESN'T FEEL RUSHED, HE TRUSTS HER, HE LIKES HER THEN LEARNS THAT HE LOVES HER. CHEFS KISS I MEAN LIKE, HE TELLS HER SUCH A PERSONAL PART OF HIS LIFE TOO, HE HEARS HER STORY, AND HE SEES POTENTIAL, HE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO NEVER JUDGED HER (Well, besides Enid) AND GAVE HER CONFIDENCE I LOVE HIM
Do you think while they were studying occasionally he'd ask Elle what her sorority was and how it worked and she taught him everything about it including the promise because that's so cute
Vivian defending Elle as soon as any man said a word about it! Elle helping Paulette get her dog back! Elle winning Brooke’s case, holding her promise as a sorority sister and as a lawyer! The Delta Nu girls supporting Elle’s crazy goals!
I love how at 1:03:01 the music becomes tense, and you can see that Vivian isn't too happy about this. Public proposals without prior asking/talking about marriage are manipulative, and you can tell that this one is. It wasn't framed as some happy thing, some fairytale thing, no, the composers/arrangers chose to use that music and the directors/actor chose to make Vivian act that way in response. It really helps you sympathize more!
I mean, wouldn't it have been framed as tense considering we follow Elle's POV, and in this Act of the show, Elle is still after Warner and his proposal, so having him propose to Vivian and waiting for her answer would be extremely tense and worrisome and not a happy ending to _her_ ?
I like the way that she says "Yes" after glancing up at Elle, like she's worried about the stability of her relationship with Elle around (which she admits to Elle later) and like she's not totally thrilled about the whole thing (it's implied that their relationship was set up by their families since their older siblings got married and they're in the 'right social circle'). The tense music says a lot about what's going on in Elle's head but also in Vivian's, too.
@@Moocow2003 YES if you look closely at vivians face, she doesnt exactoly look thrilled about it all, she kinda, pauses looks up at elle and then says yes. I've always interpreted it as her trying to get back at elle, kind of like 'look, i have have what you want'. I like the interpretation thats its more about the insecurity she feels with her relationship with warner though
I also adore that Elle’s character isn’t also a stereotypical judgmental blonde, and she goes out of her way to show kindness towards everyone. She’s also very clever and quick-thinking, which I also love, since most medias make out blondes to be ditzy and dumb.
that's why Warner calling Elle a Marilyn is clever lyrics. Coz if you didn't know, Marilyn Monroe wanted to play other acting roles where the blonde isn't "ditzy and dumb".
Plus, Elle isn’t “ditzy and dumb” even before she tries to get into Harvard. From the engagement dress scene, she has critical thinking skills as well as a good memory. Her knowledge when it comes to fashion and beauty exceeds the “blonde girl” stereotype because she understands the technical aspects of beauty, not just what’s in season. Not to mention her 4.0 average, which is amazing (93% - 95%), no matter the course. She genuinely had the potential and is smart and only realized it when she actually worked hard, and ended up realizing that she doesn’t have to just be a wife, but her own woman. Sorry for the essay in this reply, I just love Legally Blonde and Elle.
@@georgeofhamilton Not all but most do. Im not a professional actor but my teacher is and he once told the class about how he cant cry unless he thinks of sad/traumatic things but one of his coworkers can make tears come out while still being happy and without thinking of sad stuff. I personally, need to think of sad scenarios or sad things to cry but i can stop the tears as soon as im done with the part i needed the tears for.
okay. i adore how there wasn't just a whole "boo!! warner!!!" sorta end to their relationship, but rather growth in character and mutual respect for one another. god. i love this musical so, so much.
I just realized in the song "So Much Better" Elle was wearing the same dress as the night when she thought Warner was going to propose to her. Kind of a cool ironic twist.
Unpopular opinion, I bet, but I love what they do with Warner's character in relation to his relationship with Elle. In the movie, he comes off as this heartless jerk who led Elle on for three years, playing a part, knowing full well what she expected from their relationship and with no intention of delivering, just for the sake of having a good time, carelessly disregarding her feelings. I never understood why Elle saw on him. I guess it serves to underscore her delusion and highlight character development, but Elle is such a genuine, perceptive person that I can't understand how she wouldn't see through the fakeness of it all. In the musical, Warner comes off as conflicted between what he should be and what he is. He wants the status and security that comes with being a lawyer and having a serious looking wife and overall looking posh an preppy but you can see in his interactions with Elle and Vivian at the party that he's really got a lot more in common with Elle. He's vain and frivoulous and fun loving underneath it all, and it makes sense that he would have genuinly vived and fallen for Elle while at UCLA. You can see a chemestry and an earnestness between them that isn't there in the movie. He is genuinly drawn to her. I think that he might have loved her, and he cut her out of his life bitterly. I think he doesn't respect that part of himself, and defenetly doesn't respeft her. Which is great, because it gives him some depth without excusing how he treated Elle and all his other jerk traits. More importantly, though, it explains why smart, sweet, romantic and perceptive Elle would fall for him. She senses this reciprocity, this chemestry, that connection she has with the part of him that is like her. She is chasing a real emotion, but from a guy who doesn't WANT to reciprocate and who doesn't respect her, to boot. I think this makes her relationship with Emmett more meaningful, too. She comes to understand that the sort of love she craves, the lifelong partnership kind, is not raw emotion alone but respect and disposition to grow together and learn from each other.
When she cries that she thought he was going to propose, he tells her that he "did talk to [his] parents about that", which lends credence to the idea that his feelings for her were at least mostly genuine but ultimately his ambitions proved more important
@@madeniquevanwyk Theory: Maybe it's cause of the songs that gives you a window to character's minds, motivations, etc. and also cause movies are typically an hour and a half I think. But probably mostly it's because of the songs.
we not gonna talk about how in "take it like a man" emmett goes for a kiss and gets a hug. and before "find my way" elle goes in for a kiss but emmett pulls away like oh my gawd
Did anyone notice this? So when Emmett said "Why are you always right?" "Only when I'm with you" But when she's around Warner her "IQ drops to 40". It's a perfect description since it was Emmett that helped her get 'serious' and helped her realize that she's so much better. Meanwhile Warner just left her to look for a shortcut while also constantly belittling her and underestimating her abilities. It shows that Warner (that asshole) doesn't really deserve Elle right at the beginning.
1:04:45 Warner’s face is actually more disappointed when she says “Well this might!” I don’t think he was ever in love with her, but just having her worship him and follow him around relentlessly did a lot for his ego. And when she finally realizes she so much better by herself, following her passion, then with him he “understandably” gets hurt. Wow the actors are SO talented!
It's also obvious that Emmett is better because during Oh My God only Elle responds to the girls with "no I love you guys!" but then when her and Emmett are singing in the finale, they both respond with "no we love you guys" which just shows that they're actually more in sync as a couple and I just love that
ive seen this specific performance a MILLION times and literally just realized that at the end of take it like a man emmett tilts his head for a kiss and elle goes for a hug. WOW also when you watch it more than once you start to notice all of the tiny details that are hidden so, so well. like enid handing brooke the new jump rope after they unpause the video (it was in the file folder i think) and the movement of all the sets, the flags passing between the harvard guys and the delta nu girls in what you want. sheesh, this show is so freaking good i wish it was still on broadway
Originally the song was a solo for her but they switched it at last minute. The producers felt and told her to go crazy and it was so good that they kept it
I watch this musical anytime I'm going through trauma or PTSD episodes. I'm in a homeless shelter right now, and this musical is such an escape for me.
not to be hetero or anything but the way that emmett pulls elle in for the kiss at the end while saying 'oh my god' has made me feel some feelings that i shouldnt be feeling
That's like the "omg" sound that I make when I dig into a tureen full of the most perfect flan and I say it with my mouth full. Or dipping my legs into a swimming pool after a long hike. Emmett there sounds utterly famished for resolved romantic tension and a new adventure with his best subtext love. Bless his mid French Kiss prayer.
the way emmet says “oh my god” after getting proposed to is so wholesome. usually when shows try to do something that totally flips what you were expecting it has an ulterior motive (like being a headline and gaining fame rather than just being a necessary part of the performance) and comes off as pretty cringey. but this was PERFECT and totally showed how emmet and elle were meant for each other and how supportive their relationship is in both directions. by far my favorite musical of all time :)))
I also like it because at the beginning of the musical, all Elle wanted was to be proposed to. But in the end she proposed to Emmet. It shows how her desires, wants and goals changed by the end.
@@lelouchvibritannia4235 I think that this whole flip in dynamics is so good because its supported by So Much Better. “Ive gone onto better things, better jobs and bigger rings” Rings that SHE’LL be proposing with.
The heart and chain necklace Elle is wearing when she expects Warner to propose in "Serious" is the same one she wears in the first "Legally Blonde" song, symbolizing that once again, she put her heart out only to be beaten down by it and brought to her lowest just like at the start, because even as her goals and views have completely changed by that point, the way people treat her like a dumb, promiscious, blonde woman has not. Such a great detail!
Things I am glad Legally Blonde makes happen -sorority sisters being supportive, loving, helpful while yes, being kinda goofy -not changing yourself to fit in the world you’ve put yourself in (yeah, she goes there for the guy but she doesn’t stop being Elle) -I especially like the change in the musical of Vivian believing Elle about what happens with their professor, among several other tweaks
They added Emmet to the scene where Elle helps Paulette get her dog! In the movie Elle takes a risk by impersonating a lawyer illegally, but it works out so it’s brushed off. Not sure about the actual legality of Emmet and Elle claiming to be Paulette’s legal team, but Emmet is a graduate and is working under Callahan?¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yes love how Vivian is pretty much immediately supportive telling warner to shut up and (presumably) dumping him shortly after @@annikamundy9619 yes true since he was able to represent Brooke and supervise elle just a bit later at the trial, im sure it was technically legal with paulette's dog too.
@@CieraMychele When they look through the door and see the kiss, it's subtle but Warner immediately moves on to accuse her, having made an assumption that Elle was 'sleeping her way to the top' whereas vivian watches on and sees the slap and that she was being assaulted. I assume what followed was an argument in which Warner doesn't believe Vivian and probably says some other scummy stuff, which is what leads to Vivian dumping him, realising he's a mysogynist.
I love Vivian's line at the "costume" party, "One of these things (Warner, Vivian, and Elle) is not like the other. Someday we'll nominate Supreme Court Justices and you'll tan." It turns out to be true - just not in the way she expects. Vivian and Elle are successful graduates of Harvard, and Warner has a career as a model.
Honestly I will never stop geeking out about all the set design in the first scene especially just. the way it sets up Elle's world so completely as this pink girly fantasyland - and that's not derogatory! You can see exactly WHY she loves being the way she is, everything is so fun and playful and the whole setup makes you wish you were part of it too. The firepole gimmick with the change in 'clothes' (actresses) is straight out of a Polly Pocket playset commercial, the Delta Nu house itself is so concrete and tactile-looking in a way that makes you want to climb around on all the levels, the quick-change again evokes so many 90s/2000s-era dress-up dolls, and when Elle enters, it can't be a coincidence that the way the changing room's designed makes her look like a barbie in a box. I just love the overall message of like, Elle is living so many little girls' dreams, the way her environment is established, and I don't know if it's intentional or not, but that honestly feels like another important part of the overall challenge to the idea that femininity should be derided. It's like all the set elements band together and stare your inner little girly girl in the eyes, if you have one, and say: 'Remember this? Remember the sheer unbridled glee playing in worlds like this brought you? How can you possibly look down on anyone who still loves to be that way?'

Apparently, they are required to do 300 jumps/day
I'm doing Legally blonde right now and our choreographer took a lot of choreo straight from this including whipped into shape. I was sore for four days after learning it
I am doing this play in school and we haven’t started choreographing yet but it seems so hard
So I remember I read an article that said before they could audition or even be considered for the part, they had to audition their song while running on a treadmill. Then sing “whipped into shape” while on the treadmill then jump roping. It’s one of the most intense show numbers in almost any shows

Saw himself in her😏
Kidding.

@@vandaway1 it was actually Professor Stromwell, the one who threw her out for not doing the assigned reading, that convinced her to stay :P

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the fact that Vivian sees the assault and supports Elle instead of assuming immediately that she's trying to sleep her way to the top is *such a good change* from the movie.
You’re right and you should say it
They have to change because in the salon scene from the movie, Professor Stromwell was the one assuring her to stay and fight for Brooke. We don't have her in the musical so using Vivian was clever.
I've always said the musical is better at portrait woman than the movie. Vivian is a true superior woman who works hard to become a lawyer and dare to admit it when she was wrong about Ell. Unlike the movie, she was faint and timid, there is no character development
emmett is also way better in the musical

I also like at the end when Warren walks up to her and he just says ‘I’ll see you later’. No trying to pull her away or ultimatum, just trust and agency.

It isn't until she is reminded about who she really is that she finally comes out in her pink.
this is a really amazing observation omg!!!

Gosh I love Legally Blonde
It’s about being yourself non-apologetically and about how girls can be feminine and still powerful
There’s this whole bunch of movies and books that portray the feminine girl as shallow and mean, and say that the only way you’re a valid girl is if you don’t care about clothes and makeup and the things portrait as “girly”. But legally blonde just take that premise and says “well screw that. Elle’s both a feminine, delicate girl and a powerful smart lawyer.”
This is legit my favorite musical, it deserved better (like, some Tony nominations)
If I may add to this! I love how at first Vivian is the typical female competition but they end up being friends and lifting each other up!!!!!! Fuck!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU
AND Elle and Vivian stick together after Elle got sexually assaulted and came out on top AND Elle stuck to herself when Warner proposed to her at the end and kindly rejected him instead of making a big scene AND Emmett is unproblematic and is comfortable in his masculinity that he lets Elle take him shopping and loves that she proposed to him.

I love how legally blonde decontructs the idea that women can only be “intelectual” by being less “feminine”
completely decimates the “im not like other girls” idea of ‘conservative dressing/alt smart girl and stupid bimbo that’s always chosen instead of the other one’ and how much media has demonized traditional femininity.
Frrr and the way they don’t really change Elle’s perky pink personality even after the court case and law school
I just love that for once being the smart and ambitious one gets her the guy, instead of losing her the guy.
there are two types of smart people.

I need one platonically.

"He kiss me, then he fired me and he made it very clear that I don't belong here"

Emmett, on the other hand, really got to know her. He was interested in who Elle Woods really is. He fell in love with the real Elle. THIS SCENE ALONE SIGNIFIES THAT HIM AND ELLE WERE MEANT TO BE, AND THAT HE SEES HER FOR MORE THAN HER BODY (INCLUDING LITERALLY COVERING IT AND ONLY SHOWING HER FACE) AND THROUGH THE WHOLE THING HE NEVER BELITTLES HER, AND HE CARES FOR HER (EVEN USING WHAT LITTLE MONEY HE HAS TO GET HER 2 IN ONE SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER SO SHE CAN SPEND TIME ON STUDYING)
THIS MUSICAL GETS RELATIONSHIPS SO RIGHT, THEIR RELATIONSHIP DOESN'T FEEL RUSHED, HE TRUSTS HER, HE LIKES HER THEN LEARNS THAT HE LOVES HER. CHEFS KISS
I MEAN LIKE, HE TELLS HER SUCH A PERSONAL PART OF HIS LIFE TOO, HE HEARS HER STORY, AND HE SEES POTENTIAL, HE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO NEVER JUDGED HER (Well, besides Enid) AND GAVE HER CONFIDENCE I LOVE HIM
AND THE FACT THAT ELLE EVEN GOES AS FAR AS BUYING EMMETT CLOTHES BECAUSE SHE CARES FOR HIM, THEY'RE PERFECT TOGETHER

THIS IS BECOMING MY NEW FAVORITE MUSICAL AND I LOVE IT
Dude that’s so awesome! They’re adorable together
they really are meant to be together
I love how at 1:03:01 the music becomes tense, and you can see that Vivian isn't too happy about this. Public proposals without prior asking/talking about marriage are manipulative, and you can tell that this one is. It wasn't framed as some happy thing, some fairytale thing, no, the composers/arrangers chose to use that music and the directors/actor chose to make Vivian act that way in response. It really helps you sympathize more!
I like to think that she only said yes because Elle was there.
I mean, wouldn't it have been framed as tense considering we follow Elle's POV, and in this Act of the show, Elle is still after Warner and his proposal, so having him propose to Vivian and waiting for her answer would be extremely tense and worrisome and not a happy ending to _her_ ?
@@gaslightgatekeepgirlboss6321 absolutely, but one of the coolest parts about music (imo as a musician) is the different ways it can be interpreted!
Oh that is so sweet!!
So SWEET I LOVE IT
dude same. I love it when people are casted to play a couple and they're already a couple in real life.
That's so sweet...

She’s not. But it’s still a pretty dress!:)
She comes to understand that the sort of love she craves, the lifelong partnership kind, is not raw emotion alone but respect and disposition to grow together and learn from each other.
couldn’t have said it better myself
When she cries that she thought he was going to propose, he tells her that he "did talk to [his] parents about that", which lends credence to the idea that his feelings for her were at least mostly genuine but ultimately his ambitions proved more important

But when she's around Warner her "IQ drops to 40".
I never noticed that, thanks for pointing that out
I though Elle said that.
@@catsarecool4095 she says it to him in "chip on my shoulder" and then he says it to her in "take it like a man"
1:04:45 Warner’s face is actually more disappointed when she says “Well this might!” I don’t think he was ever in love with her, but just having her worship him and follow him around relentlessly did a lot for his ego. And when she finally realizes she so much better by herself, following her passion, then with him he “understandably” gets hurt. Wow the actors are SO talented!
It's also obvious that Emmett is better because during Oh My God only Elle responds to the girls with "no I love you guys!" but then when her and Emmett are singing in the finale, they both respond with "no we love you guys" which just shows that they're actually more in sync as a couple and I just love that

the way emmet says “oh my god” after getting proposed to is so wholesome. usually when shows try to do something that totally flips what you were expecting it has an ulterior motive (like being a headline and gaining fame rather than just being a necessary part of the performance) and comes off as pretty cringey. but this was PERFECT and totally showed how emmet and elle were meant for each other and how supportive their relationship is in both directions. by far my favorite musical of all time :)))
I also like it because at the beginning of the musical, all Elle wanted was to be proposed to. But in the end she proposed to Emmet. It shows how her desires, wants and goals changed by the end.
IT'S ALSO A CALLBACK TO THE FIRST MUSICAL NUMBER

Oh my god that's so poignant thanks for pointing it out!!
Things I am glad Legally Blonde makes happen
-sorority sisters being supportive, loving, helpful while yes, being kinda goofy
-not changing yourself to fit in the world you’ve put yourself in (yeah, she goes there for the guy but she doesn’t stop being Elle)
-I especially like the change in the musical of Vivian believing Elle about what happens with their professor, among several other tweaks
