@Diane V OK, first of all how many kid artists or let me say young artists( under 21) who are on a label (Rowdy records Dallas Austin's Label) which was through Arista would let an artist at that time pick whatever the F they want as a first single? Especially as a debut album that they would like to release. They will always go with the radio friendly record. Look at Biggie he was forced by Diddy to go with Juicy. 2nd Jamal's album was not a classic, only you and him believe that. It totally flopped and he never dropped again. Malik eventually came out and that was it, but out of the two he was the most sought out featured artist.
He had to be my favorite under-18 rapper all-time. Especially for Gotta Have It. Yeah, Canibus ghostwrote it as he spat the same lyrics in a freestyle, but man A+ went the F off. By the way, he did a song with AZ in addition to Canibus, Lost Boyz, Mobb Deep, etc.

Thank you for this one Da Youngsta's were definitely one of my favorites, because they were the first rappers my age. Im a old head - soon to be 44, so I was 12 when Somethin' 4 Da Youngstas came out. The title track was actually the first single - it didn't chart at all. I think that was their 1st big stunt - they picked a bad song as the 1st single - and Somethin 4 da Youngstas' 1st single came out in 1991 - MONTHS before Kris Kross fyi - but it was cheesy. They should have lead with that Pass Da Mic Pete Rock joint - way more up tempo. Not that it would have mattered because Kriss Kross 1st album was so much better. Ironically, Da Youngstas were vastly superior on their next two albums - but they never made that radio smash. Crewz Pop though was CLASSIC!! That joint everybody used to sing the hook to in high school if you were a "real" hip hop head - because KK was corny to us by album 2. Da Youngstas actually had more staying power since they wrote their own rhymes, and Qball even started producing a lot of their tracks towards the end. I am probably one of the 20 thousand other people that actually bought their last Two albums lol. No Label knew how to market a hardcore 16 year old group - Ask Mobb Deep (Their 1st album also got BURRIED by Kriss Kross in 1992 - Juvenile Hell) as they were also lumped in the Kiddie rap genre too (and rocking bald Heads like DA Youngstas lol). It was just TOO MANY kid groups then.
I feel your comment, I'm 44 already, so at the time, those rappers could relate to some of the things we were going through. I like Kris Kross. I missed the bus.
Can you do growth stunt on Jamal (def squad), Major figgas and Philly most wanted. Da youngstas should've had a solid which will turn into major run in the late 90s. Nice video. I like the exclusive clip at the intro. Da Youngsta's dropped albums during my Fr, So, & Sr years of HS I liked with all their albums then & still have a few of the tracks in my playlist. I agree the rise of Kriss Kross was a big factor in Da Youngsta's stunted growth, but the change of styles from the debut album to the darker themes of The Aftermath album made them seem inauthentic. I feel they hit their stride on No Mercy & were on the cusp of securing a core audience. If EastWest released the "Reality" single, in those days 3 solid singles boosted record sales.
Gotta correct you on something, @Stuntedgrowthmusic. Their debut single was "SOMETHIN' FOR DA YOUNGSTAS" in the fall of 1991. BTW, it's no doubt that CREWZ POP is the dopest single they've ever released.
I didn't know who they were until the early 2000s when In Living Color was playing in syndication on FX, and I caught one episode that featured them as the musical guest at the end, performing Crewz Pop. I became obsessed with the song and I ended up buying The Afternamath and No Mercy on Ebay and found I'll Make You Famous in a CD store. Heavily underrated. Illegal with Jamal and Mr. Malik was also really dope, didn't discover them until even later in the 2010s

i just came across this vid at the time of posting this ... and watching this brought another young rap group to mind .. (1995) 5th Ward Juvenilez . the only songs i remember from their album Deadly Groundz is G-Groove & Gangstas n my hood .
You're right I was today years old well mainly last year that I found out how about that Mass Appeal line used as a sample and since then been really liking these guys
Philly Legends💯 Da Youngsta's unreleased album "ICONS" would've been their best work. Q-Ball's production on that album was top tier🔥🔥🔥 it's on RUclips.
This story is close to me. I'm from Philly....I'm always rock out with "Da Youngstas". But not taking anything away from "Kriss Kriss". "Da Youngstas" didn't have to steal anything from "Kriss Kross. But it was a kid rapper war @ the time. But out of all them "Kriss Kross" sold more than all of them though. But @ the same time "Da Youngstas" had the better albums. They brought a hardcore Boom Bap element while Kriss Kross after the "Totally Krossed Out" album. They tend to venture into the mainstream lane. It's one other kid group I heavily EFF with was "Illegal"."Mr Malik &"Jamal" was dissed all the kid groups in a song called "We Getz Busy". "Kriss Kross" got back @ "Da Youngstas" & "Illegal". I actually favored"Da Youngstas" "I Make It Famous" LP. "Q-Ball" on production was crazy. Rest Within The Light to "Mack Daddy". 🧊🔥🍸🧊🔥🍸🧊🔥🍸b

Damn I didn't know about the Pop Art connection...I knew da Youngstas from Naughty By Nature working with them...they looked like a PG version of Onyx too...Kriss Kross basically jacked Snoop Dogg's style...and Kriss Kross appealed more to preteen and teenage girls i.e. $$$...their music was also more danceable and they got to tour with more successful acts earlier...cameos on commercials and TV sitcoms...I didn't even know that vocal sample from " Mass Appeal" came from the Youngstas...you are on your A+ game with this video!
Da Youngsta's DEFINITELY came out AFTER Kriss Kross + were on a MUCH lower-level than them too. While, KK were performing on "The Arsenio Hall Show" & "In Living Colour", Da Youngsta's did the same, but AFTER the fact
False....He got the 1st single wrong. "Somthin 4 da youngstas" was the 1st single, and it came out in 1991 - Months before Kriss Kross album came out. The 1st single did nothing though. I loved it though because it used to come on the Box lol. They were My age and were "realer" than KK. But Jump was an undeniable smash, you easily forgot about their album after KK hit. They had bad timing. They should have led with Pass Da Mic instead of Somethin 4 Da Youngstas (Up Tempo Tracks ALWAYS are how you want to enter the game). KK had HITS, Da Youngstas was on some underground ish from day one.

I gotta ask , can you do Illegal next since we went this route?
Your 5 min intros throw me off so much. I always think the videos over but it's still the start 🤣
Cant believe thede guys were so dope at such an early age! The lyrics were CRAZY! It should have been room for them and kris kross
Youngsters are street legend who cares about charts they got classic s
i just came across this vid at the time of posting this ... and watching this brought another young rap group to mind .. (1995) 5th Ward Juvenilez . the only songs i remember from their album Deadly Groundz is G-Groove & Gangstas n my hood .
You're right I was today years old well mainly last year that I found out how about that Mass Appeal line used as a sample and since then been really liking these guys
Da Youngstas are still putting out 🔥 music!!!
I had to go watch a video, I remember them. I like that pop pop pop wow!
Crewz Pop was my Cousins and I song back in the day. I remember that song getting a lot of play on New York radio.
Mad ill ❤ I miss you guys🎵❤️💪👍🔥😍🤩😎
MAD PROPS!!! 🔥🔥🔥
I like both Kris Kross and da youngster
I had no idea where that sample came from. Appreciate the knowledge 👍
Philly Legends💯 Da Youngsta's unreleased album "ICONS" would've been their best work. Q-Ball's production on that album was top tier🔥🔥🔥 it's on RUclips.
All In All - *Stunted Growth Voice*
🧊🔥🍸🧊🔥🍸🧊🔥🍸b
I am from Brooklyn and while KK was more commercial and well-known, I liked DY alot more.KK was too pop for me.I was growing up with DY and related to their music much more. They were spitters, too.
@@elliot2177 What's Up Brooklyn, Ayo shout out to you for recognizing real hip hop....Yeah , I dug "Da Youngstas" was hitting harder on the charts than Ke
Kriss Kross.....Here in Philly back when they was out....the whole city was behind "Q-Ball", "Reek Geez" & "Taj Mahal".....to the fullest......yeah no doubt they was dope.....
@@khingofswordz43 They filmed a couple of videos out here.Remember,Marley Marl produced them so, they were in NYC all the time.
@@elliot2177 Yes ....I do remember Marley produced them.....That "I Make U Famous" album was str8 fire !
I speak to taj often and Quran. They had a big fight in Virginia Beach in 96 which is why they broke up. It was on Wendy Williams also.
Da youngstaz was 🔥
You should do Tony Thompson (his solo career). Thank you.
Mic Wreka was my joint. Also Bloodshed & War though they swagger-jacked Mobb Deep hard.
We all one when when it comes down to it
Bloodshed and war, yo
We gotta live through it
baby Onyx
Everlast just put out something saying they stole jump from jump around....
I'd love to hear you do Jamal of Illegal
Damn I didn't know about the Pop Art connection...I knew da Youngstas from Naughty By Nature working with them...they looked like a PG version of Onyx too...Kriss Kross basically jacked Snoop Dogg's style...and Kriss Kross appealed more to preteen and teenage girls i.e. $$$...their music was also more danceable and they got to tour with more successful acts earlier...cameos on commercials and TV sitcoms...I didn't even know that vocal sample from " Mass Appeal" came from the Youngstas...you are on your A+ game with this video!
Also taj was going to get signed to biggie label and wasn’t in verbal Glock music video cause of it.
@@JimBrownski Kriss Kross DEFINITELY came out first because I was there = "Right On" magazine did their interview BEFORE "Da Youngsta's" even got heard of + "ABC" was out before both of them #SoTheresThat
@@DaFactsNoNonsense1713 Da Youngstas released their first single way before Kris kross even existed. They were competing against Another Bad Creation during that time. Thats why their 1st video was corny af!!!!!!!!! I recorded that bs off The Box. Kris Kross didnt have a video on The Box in 1991. WTF are you talking about??? F^^^ Right On!!!!! They only had successful artists in that magazine. Not upcoming motherf&^^ who werent on the charts. Da Youngesta's image changed with the Pass Da Mic Remix video. Because they were being marketed against Kris Kross in 1992.. You dont know wtf you are talking about/
“What you Feel” is the best Youngstas son in my head. Peak Hip hop.
Great vid, mate! Think you could do DJ Quik next?
Quik is a legend, bro. He definitely wouldn’t fit the theme of having “Stunted Growth”.
@@markosclark he could have been bigger
You should do Kurious or Sean Price!!!
If the internet was popular back then, things would have been different for many artist
One of my favorite group
I still listen to No Mercy
No Mercy and I'll Make U Famous are very good albums. I still think they have great chemistry as a trio. But they just grew up and wanted to do different things with their lives..
You need to do illegal next I know Lil Malik he's my friend's cousin
I just left jamal his new song with freeway is fire
Will Ram Squad be next with Tommy Hill? 🎶 some fortunate, some less fortunate, some get it, some get acquitted…….
I got one if u haven't done it...Quo...I think. Love ur work as well
Okay so you want to know about the youngsters but first of all you got part of it right but there's a bit of information that you don't know I write these youngsters these young men were not able or capable of pursuing a record career they look like little kids stealing and robbing you know negative energy there's a interview with Dallas Austin about the youngsters if you just take a look at the interview with Dallas Austin and The Roots podcast
They was my favorite group
Damn, Ive never heard of them and Im 44 and grew up on kriss kross. Im amazed 😮 Homies look like they were legit! 🔥
3:43 Damn, this perspective makes you realize how rare it is for a kid star to actually make it like Lil Bow Wow Lil Wayne Usher Soulja Boy etc 4:01
Crewz Pop!!! ❤
The Philly scene is back !! Check out “son of the 215”
I thought they changed their name to the Illy Philly Funkstas. That wasnt referenced in the video. Why the change and then what happened?
I remember them hanging around my neighborhood in west philly and Taj Mahal produce some good songs his biggest one was wit method man & d’Angelo
Quran produced break ups not taj
Can you please do a video on Vic Mensa and Amy Winehouse
This is a good 1 I never heard of them an I've been n hip hop since the inception
They been my guys since day one...
Da Youngsta's are the best teen Hip-Hop Group of all time! They were better than Kris Kross, ABC, Quo, Illegal & Mobb Deep (1993's version, that is) But Gangsta Rap was taking over & if you wasn't Gangsta or Thuggin', your records wasn't doing nothing! While they never moved major units, they still get their legendary Hip-Hop respect!
That era of Mobb Deep was totally different from what we know MOBB to be.MOBB is my favorite group of all time.DY is my favorite kid group of all time.
@@elliot2177 Agreed! Mobb Deep in '93 were 18 y.o. at the time & not quite developed lyrically as they were from '95 & on. Da Youngsta's were the best Kid Group, while Mobb Deep was the best duo from 95 & on...
Mannn, I told you to do these cats months ago 😑
Can you do one on Another Bad Creation I love them so so much And still do ❤❤!!!
What's up with a feature on the Question Mark Asylum and or Nonchalant?
Now you got to do illegal
Have you done Tsu Surf yet?
They 1st mistake.....they was trying to be like ONXY them kids was the 1st biters in hip hop when bitting was not allowed "they got the bite pass cause they was kids" 🤣😂💯🎯🔥
