I’ll be sharing watering info in an upcoming video on How to Plant Lavender. It depends on your climate but where I live if I plant in the spring I will water once a week if it doesn’t rain. I stop watering when the fall rains come. Then I do not water ever again. If I plant in the fall I do not water at all. If I plant in a container, I water once a week - more frequent if it is windy. Lavenders are high desert plants and thrive in dry conditions. Where I live we get over 45 inches of rain a year. That’s why planting in a well draining soil is so important. Julie

Thank you for the lavender tips. I will be starting a farm in Phoenix Arizona next season.

Arizona is a great place to grow lavender. Because of its dry heat, low humidity, you may want to check if other local lavender farms irrigated their plants and how often. This may improve your flower and oil production in such a hot climate.

Wonderful find to discover your channel Julie! I've got a huge beautiful, deep blue 3ft.container in front of our new Vegas home. I've been debating whether I plant a lavender or bougainvillea. We sold our Reno home (& the 2 beautiful Provencal lavender bushes I planted that had been thriving for close to 10 years!). I miss the color, shape and smell so much. Question: will all types work in that large container (with proper drainage) or is Spanish or English best because they don't grow as tall? Thank you!🙏💕

      Hi Angela:
French, Spanish, and English all can be grown in containers. If you like the more compact look, English would be the best.

Those are hot temperatures! Lavender is a high desert plant with origins in the Mediterranean and North Africa regions. It does love the heat. But if you think water and sun are the cause, feel free to plant is where it can get sun in the morning and early afternoon then shade the rest of the day. With consistent dry temperatures during the season, go ahead and water once a week at the base of the plant. Julie

      Hi Barath:
Let's see if I can give you some answers. Lavender is a high desert plant that does not like to be watered frequently. How much you water depends on your climate and if your lavender is in the ground or a pot. I live in an area that gets over 45 inches of rain a year. When I plant lavender in the spring or summer months I will water it in the morning or evening once a week until the fall rains come. After that I leave it up to mother nature to water my plants with rain. I do not water them. If you live in a dryer climate, you made need to water your plants and not leave it up to the rain. Be sure to water at the base of the plant. The stems and flower spikes can be weighed down by the water if you water on top of the plant. This can cause the plant to split. Plants in containers should be watered once a week. More frequently if it is windy or super hot.
English lavenders tend to have the best flavors for cooking and baking. One of my favorite is called Royal Velvet. They contain less camphor oil and are less bitter. There is one exception - a French lavender called Provence. It has a great flavor for sweet and savory dishes.
I have never made hair oil. I have made beard oil and I used an essential oil from a French lavender called Grosso. Really, I think an English lavender essential oil would be nice too. You could even do a blend of both. It's whatever you like best.
Lavender can have a second bloom. If it happens depends on the variety of lavender and weather conditions. The amount of second bloom has decreased on my farm due to global warming. But to help encourage that second bloom (which is much smaller than the first bloom) you need to harvest the flowers stalks when they are about 20 percent in bloom.
Yes lavender can grow in pots. Lavender in general have a life span of around 10 years. You will know when it is time to replace them because the flower stalks will be shorter/fewer leaves, and the base of the plant will become very woody.
      Julie
