I love all of Catalina. There are even better dive spots than the park. But I usually stick to Laguna Beach spots. They are protected , so life is large and plentiful. It only costs gas money and the parking is free 🧜‍♂️🤙

Ok, I know this video is two years old and you may see this........ But others might.
1.Dive guide????? What's a dive guide? It's a dive park. The park is big, Their are also site maps at the tank rental station. Kelp forest to the right. sunken sail boats to the center and open sand to the left (More or less). I like the kelp forest the best but all choices are great. There a also lots of people there. Just ask a non student what they like best.
There are tons of fish there year round since the park is a 'No Take' zone
If you get wrapped in kelp..... you're doing it wrong. Just stay calm and unwrap yourself. Or better yet, have your buddy do it. It's easy and takes a few seconds. Don't panic
People there are generally great and will watch your excess gear while you're diving if you agree to watch theirs. But also, my dive buddy lost his dive light there.
That's it. I hope you make it out here again and don't hire a guide.

I watched this video before I went and now I am back. I agree with your review. I am glad I went , but probably just watching my videos and calling it good. I drove from PHX and definitely the most expensive three dives I have ever made. If I lived in SoCal I would do this as a day trip on occasion

Ain’t that expensive if you’re local and have all your gear. Especially for the variety it offers for training and just fun dives. Good review tho. Honest for your situation

When you live here in Southern California and own your own gear it’s not bad. At its cheapest $80 . But normally about $150 dollar day after the express, the dive gear transport (not mentioned in your video but is available ) so you can enjoy your afternoon after your dives, plus a good meal and a couple beers and maybe an ice cream one from scoops! Yes after. 3 dive day you earned it!

Awesome video! I am going to the Casino Point in July this year. Is it recommended to use the rental gear on island or bring my own for a day trip?

You should come out for the Avalon harbor clean up dive. They have it every February, 2022 will be the 40th year. And my main question, What is the brand and model of that beach chair? Looks comfy!

Another excellent place to rent from is Dive Catalina - Ron Moore and Shawn Cape are awesome people and their prices are really good.

@@john_church Yeah - don't know!! But keep them in mind - the nicest and most helpful dive folks on the Isl. I've been diving Casino Point for 20 years and have all my gear but my GF was new and got her OW cert from Ron..... Great experience for her as a new diver. Keep in mind when you make another venture to So CA.

Great video. I would note that you are not required to have a dive guide. It is a public access dive site

Thank you Church. I thoroughly enjoyed your video and review of Casino Point. We are now entering the time of year that you can once again see the Giant Black Sea Bass return to Casino Point. They are huge and impressive to dive amongst. If you ever come out this way again give me a ring and I'll scare up my dive buddies and see you there on the island.
