The fact that Sarah was scared to leave her moms side on the bus really reflected how little independence she was brought up with.
I don’t think she was because what I just noticed in this video is that Sarah went up front but then a few seconds later I noticed she was sitting in the back row at 13:37 I just think there was more then the producers cared to show

But Sarah does seem to lack independent, unlike the other girls. They may have used to it already though, but I do believe that Christi haven't really been doing a justice for over protecting that child or she wouldn't have been freaking out over the seat of a bus. Especially when her mother was on that bus, just not right by her side.
I remember some episode where Abby tried to get Sarah with them to competition, but without her mother on the bus and Christi absolutely declined, so Sarah didn't attend.
